Went here on a weekday evening around 5:30pm, so it wasn't super busy, so didn't have to endure the scary wait I heard so much about. Food was alright, but nothing super special; the awesome roll was not as advertised and all the other rolls reminded me of so many other places, but this place was more boring. I don't understand why so many people come here. Yes, it's cheap and fresh, but it needs more interesting menu items to get me to ever go back. Thank goodness there are way better sushi places in the lower mainland to choose from. Unfortunately, this place isn't it. =(
HK style close to home. Can't go wrong with anything fried/baked/stewed here. It's open later so always good to come if you don't feel like cooking. Service is a hit and a miss, but you never leave hungry. I like some of their set menus, especially the one that comes with a dish of your choice and they throw in rice & soup on the side. This location has hosted many different HK Style places, but Copa has stuck out longer than most. It's a nice alternative if you don't want to drive out as far as Richmond for your fix of HK Style Cafe food.
Fantastic new addition to this side of Coquitlam. A good centrally located Keg. Much better than their old location on the other side of the highway. Been here a few times with friends and family and it never disappoints. This new(er) location was nicely built and has a nice cozy ambiance inside. Service is friendly and pretty efficient. Can't go wrong with their prime rib and anything with surf n' turf. They even gave me a free chocolate lava cake on my birthday last year. That was a really nice surprise. Glad there's a steakhouse close by that won't break the bank. =)
The cafe is swank and fancy looking and totally disappointing. You expect so much going in.
Limit one gelato sample?!? How the heck are you supposed to figure out what you would like?
BTW... soy vanilla tastes like stale vanilla wafer cookies. I reiterate STALE...
The crabby employee was not pleasant.
Though the fancy cakes looked like a lot of work went into them, but it was a bit expensive for what it is.

Sorry but this is not what I was brought up eating.
Seemed liked store bought frozen ribs & the sauce for the spaghetti was out of a can.
This is for people who have been a budget all there life and really don't know much better.
Or in other words they were raised on Kraft diner and wieners.
Service was ok, but when it came to paying the waiter hovered over our table until we finished filling in the amount and tip. MADE US FEEL UNEASY.

This place moved across from where it was and made the seating area bigger. It is in the Coquitlam Centre Mall. My go to place for sushi in the mall is Sashimi Sushi with real Japanese people. But, I thought if this place had expanded it must be good right - wrong.
I had a California roll and a yam tempura roll. The Cali roll tasted like - no kidding - smoked salmon. That was not totally bad to me but weird. But, it should not have either been contaminated with smoked salmon or have been stored so close to it that it picked up the flavour. The yam tempura for the other roll had been fried much earlier in the day, if not the day before and was cold and hard. Yuk. Also, the roll was so bad and had so much cucumber in it that it fell apart. That's about the worst thing a sushi roll can to. Plus it was way overpriced. A lousy yam tempura roll with cucumber was the same size and price as a dynamite roll with a tempura prawn, crab and avocado -go figger.
Also, the menu was false advertising. It said the california roll was crab. It is not crab, it is fake crab. Plus they cheap out on the wasabi.
Customer service was nil, with little interaction and no conversation or smiles. I'm heading back to Sashimi sushi where they know how to make sushi and treat customers.
I decided to try this sushi place in Coq. Since the usual place i go to was closed. When we first entered, we were greeted by a hostess who was nice, but the first thing out of her mouth was it's last call for All You Can Eat. I didn't even know they had AYCE, as it was my first time eating there. So we ordered the all you can eat, we had some maki sushi rolls, some nigiri sushi, tempura, teriyaki meats. They all tasted ok, but the teriyaki beef tasted like dog food, not that i've ever tried dog food. But it definitly wasn't teriyaki. The oyster thing we had was pretty good. I guess the main thing that totally rung an alarm in my head was the awful service. They just plop the plates on your table and walk away, no eye contact no smile, no life in them whatsoever. This has got to be the worst service i have ever experienced in any restaurant or any business establishment.
The hostess was the only person with some sense of service and hospitality skill. But the rudeness of the other people working their and especially the chinese lady behind the counter counting the receipts outways the one kind hostess. I give ambiance a Poor rating because i think ambiance isn't just the way the place looks, it's the feeling of the place. The energy here is so negative. The lady behind the counter was the rudest with the way she took my interac card and slammed the receipt on the counter. No smile, no hello no thank you. I felt like slapping her. This is in no way a true Japanese restaurant. $ui $ha Ya??? i say $ui Sha NO! and never again.
I can see from reading the other reviews nobody left this place happy. BUt yet people still keep going back.
I have been several times to Chada Thai. Even though I live in Burnaby, I make it a special trip as this restaurant is in my opinion the best Thai restaurant in the Lower Mainland. Thai food is my favourite and I think I have tried every single Thai restaurant in Metro Vancouver, but none come to the quality of the food at Chada Thai. When I go for lunch, I usually have their Pad Thai or their chicken cashew nuts. The food tastes very fresh. I have had Pad Thai at other places that were dry and tasted the ketchup in the sauce - totally yucky, but Chada Thai makes their own sauce from scratch with Tamarind.
At dinner time, I really like their mus-a-mun curry with beef or their Pa-Nang curry. The previous reviewer is right. If you never tried spicy, order mild because spicy means spicy like in Thailand at Chada Thai. I love very spicy food so it is not a problem for me, but I can see where someone not used to it could set their mouth on fire. I have also tried their fresh salmon and their seafood plate and like them both, and I am not even that much into fish. If you have room for desserts, try the FBI; it's really nice.
This place used to be run by Chef Brian. Sadly, he passed away in 2009. He was a super cool guy with an easy smile who cooked wonderfully and was great with customers. I mean he'd hug some of his regular customers. Incredible Chef! They have a new Chef now and he is very nice as well. He might not hug you, but he really care about the food and the customers. And then they have this new manager, and he is so cool as well. Makes you feel like so welcome.
I know some of the reviews question the value, but I pay much more downtown for much lesser quality. and their lunch is super cheap. One thing I did not know until my last visit is that you can order from the dinner menu, even at lunch time.
I wish we had a place like that in Burnaby. Instead we have the Thai House, and their food tastes mediocre when compared to Chada Thai. So for me, Chada Thai is it!! True Thai food.
Went there for lunch with my husband because I really felt like having some wonton noodles in soup yesterday and Hon's was the first place that came to mind.
Service was prompt and the food came extremely fast. Nothing special about the food. The noodles came in one big clump in the bowl, and each of the wontons had one single shrimp in it, and they were mushy, and possibly not very fresh, that was maybe why they had to mask the taste with a ton of pepper. The pot stickers were smaller than I remembered and they were very greasy.
All in all, will not be back for wonton noodles in soup.
Co workers and I used to go here (North Road Location)a lot over the past 3-4 years during lunches because I work close by. I will now go once in a while, but not like we used to. Today i was very disappointed on today's lunch in which I had the Pork chops & egg with rice. What I was disappointed on was with the quality of the pork chops, mostly fat, and they used to give a couple of pieces but gave one hacked up piece of meat. Also the rice that came with it was not very fresh seemed to be it was a day old rice, very mushy and luke warm. I do not mind the prices that the are charging which it has gone up by as much as $2 but the quality has to come with it too I'm very reluctant to go back after the experience of late but unfortunately there are not too many Pho places close by but I'm thinking I may just have to do that if this continues.
Let me keep this short and simple. Food is great but the wait might be a bit long during breakfast times on weekends as it's packed! Service, is superb and outstanding. Mama Quan which is the waitress always has a smile on her face. Been there for a good 3 years now. Value cheap and underrated for the food. Ambiance is just not as good but it gives a relaxing view. Give it a try! :)
It is hard to find authentic Japanese restaurant in Tri-City area. I usually test Udon/Soba noodles to judge the quality of food they serve. As broth is simple but has to be made from scratch, it reveals the time and effort (which translate to quality) put into preparation of the food. Matoi's soup passed with flying colors. My husband and I tried Maki Combo (huge portion), grilled eggplant, Spicy Mayo Prawns, and Tempura Udon. We were so full and could not finish it all. As I have not checked this site prior to going there, next I will definitely try their nigiri sushi and enjoy their fresh fish. The service was very attentive endless supply of green tea. They also have a great lunch menu with variety of grilled fish for reasonable price. I look forward to trying their lunch menu next time.
OK, so we have always gone to the Sushi Town on Capitol Hill in North Burnaby, we were one of the very first customers they had when they first opened and remained very loyal until we moved to Coquitlam. Thier food was awesome, fresh and huge portions, we loved it and to this day still make the drive there for sushi nite. Thier service has always been quite bad but who cared? The food more than made up for it. We thought, finally we would give the Sushi Town in Coquitlam a try in the hopes that due to its name sake it would be just as good. The minute we walked in I should of known better, the place was more lit up (lights so bright!) than a movie set and I was tempted to put on my sunglasses. Complete lack of ambiance. The restaurant was smokey from the cooking vents and reeked like deep fryer and fish. I almost gagged and I can still smell it on my clothes. The place is dirty, windows filthy and floors sticky and disgusting never made it to the bathroom to scared. The staff is soooooo RUDE to the point that they yelled at my mom to move her book off of the table beside us, no problem, but a please would have been nice and sufficed? We waited at least 20 minutes before finally flagging a person down to ask for a cup of tea and then at least 20 more before finally being able to catch another person to take our order. Towards the end of the meal I asked a server to please pack up our left overs and to please also check if our to-go order might be ready which we had ordered with our main meal in the begining. A simple let me check for you would have been nice, but instead, the server demanded I look over at the door and told me "See that line up over there?" "Those are pick up orders and you have to wait more!" Didnt quite know what to say at that point, never had a server or estabishment full of servers be soooo rude and demeaning at the same time, the lack of training of staff is obvious but it seems to me that SUSHI TOWN COQUITLAM takes more pride in being RUDE and OFFENSIVE to thier customers than it does in thier food. WILL NEVER NEVER GO BACK AND WILL MOST DEFINATELY MAKE SURE TO TELL ALL OF OUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS TO STAY VERY FAR AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The food there DOES NOT make up for the extremely POOR and RUDE service!!!
My wife and I are always up to try new Japanese sushi places. We've driven by Mega Sushi's sandwich board many times, without giving it much thought.
We were craving sushi and thought we'd give it a try, expecting a generic take out sushi place that you can find anywhere.
When we walked in, we were surprised at the size of the restaurant. It was tiny! 2 tables for 4, and one table for 2. Obviously catering to the take out crowd. We were cheerily greeted by the sushi chef as the waitress was taking orders over the phone. The take out orders seemed to be coming in quite consistantly, which is usually a good sign.
We sat down and picked a few favorites from other places. A Salmon and Tuna combo (1 tuna roll, 1 salmon roll, 2 tuna nigiri and 2 salmon nigiri), a Chiraishi Don, and a Chopped Scallop roll. Everything was amazingly fresh. More fresh than most sushi places we've been to. Everything was presented very nicely, and tasted amazing. The rice had just the right amount of vinegar to give it some flavor (which many places tend to forget these days). Portions were good, not massive like Sushi Garden, but a little larger than many places.
The service was great as well. As the place was small, there was only the sushi chef and one waitress working, but they were very efficient at keeping things moving along. Both were extremely friendly, and didn't stop smiling.
Price wise, the prices were in line with most Japanese sushi places. Nothing exceptionally expensive or cheap. Our bill came to about $29 including tax and tip, which was quite reasonable for what we ordered.
As for ambiance, it's small, but spotlessly clean. Not much to look at there, so take out is probably recommended.
Overall we were blown away by the service and the freshness of the food. We'll definitely be returning. Highly recommended!
We used to eat occasionally at Matoi downtown and we were curious about their new location in Coquitlam which is much closer to our house.
Well, Matoi didn't disappoint. The sushi is the right size, the fish is super fresh and the rice is right consistency and taste. They have a nice variety of fresh fish if you want to venture beyond tuna and salmon.
The decor is nice and the service is good, although there seem to be a bit of confusion from time to time, which is understandable considering the fact that the wait staff is new.
We'll definitely go back and we're really glad that Matoi graduated from a little stand in the grocery store to a full-service restaurant. This is definitely our favorite sushi restaurant.
I read a few reviews here and I gotta take issue with some of the posters. Soup Plus is incredible in terms of quality and menu, and has incredibly wallet-friendly prices to boot. No, they don't accept credit cards, but same goes for a lot of restaurants. Yes, they do have classical music on, but that's part of its charm. No, they don't have the ubiquitous Starbucks look that so many eateries sport these days, but it's charming and cozy and I can relax when sitting down for a meal, so as far as I'm concerned, the atmosphere is exactly as it should be.
This mom and pop place (the place is literally run by a couple) has the most incredible sandwiches I've ever eaten, in a restaurant or home setting. The sandwiches are divine. Bread is made on premises, as are the delicious, spoon-licking soups, and pretty much all is made from scratch and is incredibly fresh.
The veggie melt is melt in your mouth tasty, and is often my favorite, even though I am a huge carnivore. The specials featuring mouth-watering meatloaf and soup is one of the best deals in Metro Vancouver foodie landscape and cannot be beaten by any restaurant. The pasta bolognese is too incredible, and if you have a chance to snag a portion (sometimes offered on special) then do so. It beats the $20 plates hands down in terms of flavour.
6 soups are served every day from scratch, and are made right in front of your eyes. The chef is a friendly soup-nazi guy who has cooked for celebrities and notable politicians, and has an amazing ability to create simple, delicate foods. He is an amazing persona and most people I know don't only come for the foods but for a friendly chat and a place to hide away from the daily buzz. The best part is you get to try the soups before you buy the soups.
Nothing beats Soup Plus in my opinion and their exquisite, well-made sandwiches. Nothing.
We came here two years ago and found the overall experience just "ok". 2 years later and the place has really improved. As soon as we sat down they brought us something to nibble on. Everything was delicious! The sashimi was wonderfully fresh, the tempura batter was great, and the rice was so perfectly sweet. The service was fabulous and even entertaining! We'll be back. Soon.
We've driven by I Love Sushi many times since it's opened, but never given it a try. We finally decided (after having a major sushi craving) to try it since it's only 5 minutes from our place.
It was busy on a Tuesday evening, but no where near packed. The restaurant is quite small and seats maybe 25-30 people at any time.
We were promptly greeted by the waitress and taken to our tables. She was very cheery and friendly.
The menu was a little sparse, with many of the usual fare, and a few special rolls we hadn't heard of before. As this was our first time, we ordered a few combos to gauge the portions vs prices. We had a Happy Combo, and Oishi Combo, and a couple Toro Nigiri. My wife was a little disappointed they didn't have any Saba (mackerel) on the menu at all.
Once we ordered, we were pleasantly surprised to get complimentary Edemame beans, as well as a miso soup each. The miso was nice and hot, and the beans were nice and crisp. When the food arrived, the rolls were well formed (not falling apart) but the fish on the nirigi looked like they were cut with a knife that wasn't sharp enough. One nice thing is they used the nice dark sockeye salmon instead of the usual atlantic salmon we see in Vancouver. The food was good, and portions were average (not huge, but not tiny).
The service is certainly a reason to go here. The waitresses are very cheery and polite, and quite efficient.
The prices however, are a bit on the higher side. Our bill after taxes and tip was around $30 for 2 of us, but our tummies were merely satisfied, not stuffed like some other places. With the complimentary items it was a better deal though.
Overall, as it's close to home it's nice to know there's a half decent place to go if we have an emergency sushi craving, but I doubt we would seek out I Love Sushi if we had the time to patron other options.
Fantastic find close to Eagle Ridge Hospital. Upon being seated we were asked if we wanted to order a drink. 2 coffees I said and 2 coffees appeared with a bowl with 15 creamers. Right away I knew I would like this place. No need to waste time asking for more cream as your refilled coffee cools. Sometimes it's the little things that set you apart. By the way we were offered more coffee at least 6 times by staff hitting all the tables with a coffee pot. 2 full orders of baby back ribs 1 with mac and cheese and 1 with alfredo penne. The sides were absolutely delish. However I found the ribs to be a little dry and fell off the bone a little too easily. The full slab was not served as 1 piece but in 3 sections making me believe it was not a full slab cut into segments but 3 segments trying to pass itself off as a full slab. I will return but not for the ribs. Restaurant is very roomy with a very comfy atmosphere. Flat screens visible to all patrons. Just saw Canucks beat the Oilers 2-1. Great restaurant find.
Looking at the name of this place, I thought it was a wonton house but it's not.
This is a Taiwanese noodle & BBT house.
I've been trying to find a decent BBT place that also serves good food in Coquitlam. The only place I could think of was in Surrey. And now I don't need to drive that far anymore.
Ding Hao serves Taiwanese beef noodles and snacks. Their drink menu selection is huge. If you're not craving BBT, it's ok, they have slush drinks. Their noodle soup is flavorful (herbs) but I'm not used to it. My companion enjoys it though. Their beef is tender and in generous portions. Their noodles start at $7.95 so it's not cheap. I like it how they're open late till 9:30-10pm.
They are closed on one weekday but I forgot which day.
