Last wednesday was a hooking up with some buds at this place of which.... one of them works near by as an engineer. Why not...give it shot. Took me a good 35 minutes to reach this place from eastvan via highway 1, exit Gaglardi Way, right on lougheed, left on North Road and straight into a Korean strip mall about a 1/4 way up. Some free parking as I was quite late for our 1230pm lunch.
As I stepped in...the boys were already slurping up rice noodles. One had the usual beef ball and other had flank steak with a helping of spring rolls. I had to raise my hand to get the attention of the waitress. Got the menu...played it safe. I ordered the small No.2 eye round steak with well done flank ($7.50)...only problem...ran out of eye of round which kind of sucked so more flank. Plus a single piece of spring roll ($2.30).
Waited for about 7 minutes for my soup to arrival and the waitress forgot my garnishes...so another minute of waitin. Verdict...rice noodles were a squarer rice noodle than the usual flat ones...had more texture and slightly firmer...it was good. The soup base..mild not salty or MSGed to hell. The flank...nothing special. The spring roll was the Chinese version of the skin with the usual suspect filling...crisp good like the ones at Thai son.
Overall, alright. Would I come again???....Hmmm damn far for pho considering there were tons of pho places in my neck of woods but if I worked or lived in the area...this might be the standard. In fact, Pho 99 has got tons of locations in the subs. I noticed it got busy right after we left at 1:25 pm..construction workers and suits..nice mix of clients.

Enjoy an elaborate Sunday brunch in an elegant & comfortable setting with friendly hurrying servers? Come try this restaurant inside The Executive Plaza Hotel on North Road just blocks away from Lougheed Town Centre and Lougheed Town Centre SkyTrain Station. My personal favourite item and that is always offered is the mixed berry sauce for the freshly made waffles. Usually warm fish and meat dishes are available as well as a variety of vegetables. My husband & I often have 'dinner' for breakfast/lunch here. A huge selection of breakfast items is available too. Plus plenty of cold foods and a variety of juices, plus coffee & teas to drink.
Food quality and flavouring are usually 'Outstanding'. Bring about $30 per person to this buffet.
I regularly purchase pizza at VLP. My wife and I love their Gourmet Vegetarian and my son is addicted to the Super Cheesy Pepperoni. The best part of the place is the nice couple who run it. Very friendly and accommodating. We like the dough balls they use in place of the centre plastic "table" meant to keep the middle of the pizza off the underside of the box. This is the old Bella Pizza and has maintained that companies menu (plus some new items).
Reservations were honoured on time. Service was pushy. Felt all night like they were just trying to get us out. But waitress was still nice. Lighting was sketchy and went up and down. Alcohol prices were reasonable.
Saganaki good but expensive at $10. Fried zucchini not that good. No free pop refills even for designated drivers - very poor policy. Spanakopita was ok but very minty. Prawns were very good and juicy. Lots of pita and tzatziki. Calamari was huge portion and chicken good. Got lots of rice and potatoes but both were flavourless. Ek mek was homemade but not to my taste - texture problem. All in all better than taverna greka but just a carb fest
We come here sometimes after work. Most places have good happy hour specials. They have no drink specials and only a few menu items are 1/2 price. Fish tacos are ok for 1/2 price with high liner fish in it. Artichoke dip was bland and unappetizing. Wings are really good when they are "on" and ok when not.
Waitresses are ok but a bit pushy. The blond one looks like a " dirty librarian".
The place is rarely busy. We walked in one sunny day after work at like 4:30 and you would expect the place full of the after work crowd. Nope. One couple in their 40s and that's it. There was more staff than customers. The had a sign up that said children were welcome until 9 pm but that came down after a couple of weeks. One waitress said the regulars didn't like kids in there. We'll I still don't see kids or regulars in there. Not a super vibe.
We were really excited to try authentic Korean BBQ and celebrate my daughter's 17th Bday dinner at Insadong.
We made reservations and was seated at a table which had a bbq on one side only.
We had a birthday cake and they didn't have room to keep in a refrigerator while we ate dinner, the cake sat beside us on a chair.
The waitress took our order and was not friendly or helpful with suggestions. She was very short and rude. We told her one of the kids has a shellfish allergy so to omit the mussels and prawns from our BBQ combo order
We received side dishes and when I asked for more lettuce and condiments for the lettuce wrap, she said its on the table. There were 6 of us and she gave us 2 settings of lettuce and condiments.
When our BBQ meat combo arrived, it had the mussels and prawns on the platter. We politely reminded her of the allergy and she said the kitchen forgot her order and just removed the platter.
Usually our rice arrives with the BBQ, but we finished cooking the ribs and had to waive down a waiter to get our rice, which was plopped on the table as they walked briskly by.
There were other servers who where delivering items to our table and literally just plopped it on the corner closest to the walkway without even telling us what it was. When we requested more tea or replenish side dishes, they would walk by and plop it on the table without even breaking their stride. This may be efficient, but it made the service so impersonal and the experience was a big fat "0" for me and my family.
The cost for this dinner without any alcohol was $25/person plus tip. I would get better service at a hotdog stand and not have have all my clothes cleaned and shower right away to get the BBQ smoke smell out.
I would not recommend this restaurant if you want service or a good dining experience.
The only time a server smiled at me was when I was paying the bill asking me how my dinner was... A bit too late for service. I still tipped out of courtesy but if it was up to me, tips need to be earned. The servers didn't earn a penny of the tip I left, I left it for the kitchen.
Unpretentious...honest cooking with great value.
We came here Saturday night with friends, this place takes reservations which is great because it is busy!
When we walked in our table wasn't quite ready so we watched the open kitchen...are they making their own tortellini!? YES!! and apparently all the pasta and sauces are scratch made...wow!
Our table had pizzas an appy and a gnocchi. The pizzas were as good as any of the trendoid pizzerias but at a much more reasonable cost and frankly better than some highly regarded placed (Ahem Campanioglo!)
The gnocchi were awesome and a huge serving, in fact out of 3 pizzas we ended up bagging a whole one (mixed pieces) for home, ditto for the gnocchi. Peroni beer on tap ice cold and reasonably priced, a great and not expensive (relatively speaking) wine list round out the food/drinks. The staff and service are amazing, when we got there it was hopping but the service was focused and efficient, a nice change form the norm. The ambiance is neighborhood chic and comfy.
Love this place....definitely will be back!
Went with a group of friends last week. Ordered their rib and wings combo with yam fries and corn bread.
The best part of the meal is actually the corn bread. Yam fries is decent. The bbq sauce is pretty good but the rib is dry. No fall off the bone meat here, actually need to work the knife to get the meat off.
The wings are bad. So so bad. Twice battered actually means twice fried! Therefore the batter is hard. Such a shame cause the flavour is decent.
I would avoid this restaurant and take my money elsewhere.
i don't usually review the restaurant...but not this time...
It's a very small restaurant and I think can only seat 8 people. So when i first stepped in, there were a few other people following behind us. This place functions by ordering first and then seating yourself .Since it was my first time, I wasn't sure what to get, so I asked the cashier .he was saying try bibimbap..and dynamite combo......... so..I decided to go for a rice bowl(bibimbap) and sushi combo...it was good choice..
this is small restaurant but food is big and taste so good....and price is very reasonable.
this will be my favorite take out spot..
i love the food in this place, i can see it has gone a lot better over the years and now i can see all the money and effort the owner has put in. i love the food, the service and the ambience. its great to see restaurants like this become an amazin place. its gonna get far if it keeps going like this
Exceptional, ever time, after 100 lunches.
To put things in context, order the Nigiri Sushi or Sushimi sushi lunch boxes. They might be $10, but you'll get an amazing, professional, fresh, prime cuts of salmon and tuna, colorful interesting lunch. The quantity is almost too much. It's just awesome. After you do that we'll talk.
Today, I realized I wrote a bad review for this place in 2012 and should have updated / corrected it a lot earlier. Have been there 100+ times in last 2 years, (once, twice a week), and it's always the best. There is no better.
The two young girls working the floor are great. No attitude, they're fast, friendly, mind their own business and do what you want them to do. Take care of my lunch. I give the owner credit for choosing and training his staff well.
Three sushi chefs behind the counter. Young guys making art out of the freshest of ingredients. Thank you for many, many great lunches.
Decor? Interior? No fooling around, it's beautiful. Fire, water, stone, - the owner invested a lot of money to build a great restaurant.

went for lunch just before Christmas with a friend, and have been to a few different locations previous. Our waitress was friendly,but I think pretty new. Social Lager and Social wine is a great price if you arent into pretentious prices when looking for a simple drink to do with lunch. I had the fish tacos,which I always find on point. My dining companion had the shrimp pesto pizza with little complaint. They were a little understaffed and the waitress had a big party after us,but we werent in hurry. However, the manager came to us to get a drink order and comp'ed our drinks apologizing for the wait. I found that to be very genuine in concern, as we weren't complaining or demanding any special treatment. It made me feel valued as a guest in the restaurant. I know this chain tends to get busy, but my last two visits to his particular location have always been consistent food wise. Its a nice change to a pub
Went to Chada Thai with my husband and daughter Dec. 30/14. I ordered the Papaya Salad ($13) and specifically told the waiter that I wanted it mild. When it arrived it was so spicy I could not eat it and my mouth was burning . He merely said sorry. Never asked if I wanted something else, or offered to make any compensation on our bill.. My husband, who likes spicy food, tried my salad and said it was not mild at all, but medium spicy. We won't be going back! Very poor service from a waiter in my opinion.
We have a young family and haven't been able to enjoy dinners out as much as we used to so order in/take out on special nites. One of my favs is Greek food. Unlucky for us, this is one of the only half decent Greek food places close by so are quite busy. The food is good, not fantastic, but good, the portions and prices are also good, not fantastic but good.
TAKE OUT SUCKS. They have no desire to cater to or expand their take out business. Your a second class customer and treated as such. Don't bother trying to order from them on Thursday Friday Saturday or Sunday, which are usually the nites you would want to treat yourself with take out. They are a busy location and couldn't be bothered to get the phone. They only have one line so you have to keep calling for at least 20 or more minutes straight. I've given up after 30 min of continuously trying before.
If your one of the lucky ones to get through, they immediately put you on hold or put the phone down and walk away. I was even told last weekend that they weren't accepting take out orders because they were to busy. How ridiculous, must be nice to be so busy that you don't care, turn down business and orders and leave money on the table. This after 20 min of trying to get through.
Tonite I thought I'd try again, it's a Tuesday nite so should be safe no? Was so excited to hear it ring and then Bam! a loud fax machine in my ear. Who would have the fax machine on the only # into the restaurant? I give up.
My only hope is that a Greek restaurant remotely good opens up within the area, given the crappy service at My Greek I'd be more than happy to take my business, and anyone else's I know, over to it.
We've been coming here for years but not so much lately due to all the competition out there.
I had the beef dip for lunch. It was not memorable being small and tasteless with a dip so drenched with garlic, and I love garlic, that I could not use it. Perhaps just a cook's glitch. But at $14 are you kidding me. Sure this is the pricey lower mainland but this was out of line.
Service here is usually good but this time was slow and disinterested.
I'll come back again some time as I don't want to chuck out a place I've been going to for so many years over the last few times that were just not good at all.
But I won't be in a hurry.
Good service, great deals on food and drinks. Every day there are great specials available without compromising any quality. Its a great place to watch the game or spend your night dancing and listening to live music. Servers are always very friendly and willing to make sure you have a great time.
ok that about sums it up. Went for a fundraiser. Burgers very plain and ok. add cheese. Fries really bad. waitress toldmy husband her (uncomfortable) life story. He felt weird. band was good. and place was oddly empty on a friday night for a free live band. Idon't get it whatever
Very central and convenient location. Free 2 hours parking in the building parkade. Free Wifi.
Hand-dragged noodle, cutting noodles and "xiao long bao" and beef rolls, as well as genuine Szechuan dishes, you can always find something you like.
Food price is below average. $7.5 lunch special is pretty generous.
Interior environment is modern style, much better than the other Chinese restaurants in Coquitlam.
I've been to Matoi Sushi for five times now and everytime I go there, the FOOD TAKES SOOOOO LONGGGGG. Especially the rolls and the nigiris takes minimum 10 to 30 min when its even empty.
Fish is not that great quality, price too high, the kitchen food is mostly poor in terms of the taste and the portion. I went to Matoi last night with my friend. He ordered the Oyako don which took about 15min and I ordered 3tobiko 1toro 1tuna 4chopped scallop and that took 35min at least. Again, there was only 4 other tables and 3 waitresses. 2sushi men, at least 2 workers at the kitchen. And that was not the first time, every single time I go and order, it takes 30~35min. Not only that, the servers are not friendly at all, never comes and fills up tea or water, never takes away the empty dish, takes forever to bring the bill to table. Only if asked, they do. No 'How is everything so far' No 'How was everything today', No greeting, No Thank you, No Bye. So here you go! No more Matoi sushi for me, my family, friends and co workers. Bye Matoi. We will never see you again.
Fresh hand-dragged noodles with Beijing sauce, spicy sauce on "Dan Dan noodles", "Xiao Long Bao" dumpling soup, Mandarin dumplings, all are my favorite food. We used to take a long travel to Richmond or west Vancouver to have such kind of food. So glad to have a restaurant in Coquitlam Center area serving Northern China food as well as spicy Szechuan cuisine now. With noodles, Dim Sum and Szechuan dishes, I always find something I like.
My first visit was in August and the restaurant was just opened then. I visited this place at least once a week. Food quality has been stable so far. After first couple weeks' havoc, you don't have to wait in long line for seats most time now. I get my food in reasonable time frame (around 10 minutes) after placing the order. Some girls in front were new to the restaurant business obviously. But they are very friendly.
