Your standard pub fare. Pub by day, club by night.
ok that about sums it up. Went for a fundraiser. Burgers very plain and ok. add cheese. Fries really bad. waitress toldmy husband her (uncomfortable) life story. He felt weird. band was good. and place was oddly empty on a friday night for a free live band. Idon't get it whatever
We've been coming here for years but not so much lately due to all the competition out there.
I had the beef dip for lunch. It was not memorable being small and tasteless with a dip so drenched with garlic, and I love garlic, that I could not use it. Perhaps just a cook's glitch. But at $14 are you kidding me. Sure this is the pricey lower mainland but this was out of line.
Service here is usually good but this time was slow and disinterested.
I'll come back again some time as I don't want to chuck out a place I've been going to for so many years over the last few times that were just not good at all.
But I won't be in a hurry.
The Other Half and I had a dismal experience last week at another pub close by. On our way there, we noticed that the parking lot at Woody's was jammed. Shoulda gone with that...
Today, we headed for Woody's to see why all the vehicles were there. On the weekend, they do a brunch menu until 2:00. OH had raisin French toast with sausage, and I had steak and eggs.
We were greeted pleasantly when we wandered in, but they waited for us to "settle" at a table before bringing the menues and offer of drink. Our server was not pushy, but there when we were ready to order.
Ambiance... a fairly new pub, I think, or recently renovated? Impeccably clean and tidy, lots of sports on many screens, and a tranquil fish tank behind the bar. Washrooms nice and presentable.
Food - for pub brunch, very very good. The French toast and sausage disappeared quite quickly. The steak was excellent, eggs done perfectly, nice crispy "hashbrowns" (the pieces-type, rather than shredded potatoes).
Value - standard. The menu had the standards as well as a few change-ups, and looked like it might be worth another visit.
We would return. Nice place.
Good service, great deals on food and drinks. Every day there are great specials available without compromising any quality. Its a great place to watch the game or spend your night dancing and listening to live music. Servers are always very friendly and willing to make sure you have a great time.
Have been going to Woody's for years and always have a decent meal and always get top notch service. It is much nicer now that smoking isn't allowed & there are fewer people eating there because they can't smoke. They have good daily specials and serve very good pizza. I understand that the evenings aren't so nice & quiet as they have live entertainment
If you're looking for some good, cheap wings...Woody's is the place for you. Monday and Tuesday, from 3 - 11 pm, has 15 cent wings. I haven't seen any place cheaper than Woody's.
It is "eat in" only and apparently you can't bring the wings home, so don't over order and expect to be able to take it home for your friends or loved ones. Wings are that price with a minimum drink purchase of $2.50.
The wings are a fare sized, drumettes are nice and meaty. They come deep fried, with no coating (ie. flour, breadcrumbs, etc). Flavours are standard, hot, bbq, honey garlic, etc. I think there is a minumum 10 wings per flavour???, or at least their used to be. Wings come with dipping sauce on the side, but if you pay a little extra, you get the wings tossed in the sauce.
I went on Monday night and asked the waitress if the wings were pretty big? she advised they were on the "small size". I proceeded to order 40 wings, but then the waitress suggested that I order 30 to start, as i couldn't bring them home and they only take like 5 minutes to cook. I order salt & pepper, hot and honey garlic, I paid a little extra and got all 30 wings tossed in salt and pepper and sauce on the side. I'm glad I did because that extra s&p on the wings made them taste really great.
Good thing I took the waitress' advice and only ordered 30, because i was stuffed and bloated when I finished. I had a club soda with lime with my wings and after tax it was $8.
Definitely recommended if you're in the area and you like wings.
Hubby and I decided to check out Woody's as it's in our area, and I had a hankering for a good burger. We sat ourselves and our server was there pretty much right away to take our drink order.
I ordered their prime rib burger, hubby had the meatball sub, each of us had a pop, no alcoholic bevies. My burger was really good, except I did ask for a dry bun, no condiments and it came fully loaded. My server was not the one who brought the food and noticed right away and asked if I wanted it re-done, but it was ok after I scraped all the mayo and stuff off. I had subbed for poutine instead of fries. Hubby's meatball sub was pretty good, he had it with side salad, which was good but a really small side salad.
It was the Sunday long weekend and apparently they have entertainment of sorts at night, but it was still early enough that the music was not blaring so loud that I couldn't hear myself speak. The "talent", as hubby refers the servers, was easy on the eyes, and our server I thought was especially on the ball.
The bill just for meal and drinks was $33, so a bit pricey to me for pub fare, my burger was the same price as the surf and turf special that night. Would I go again, yes, but most likely for their lunches or wings, as for the price and tip, we could have gone elsewhere besides a pub.
I went for the 20 cent wings thinking they would be a deal similar to the 20 cent wings at The Point Pub in Port Moody. I was disappointed. Two of us went in, both must order a drink if eating wings, wings are small and over cooked, the refill on my $3 coke actually costs more money!!, the sauce is served on the side. We order 40 wings plus a veggie plate, at the end I was still hungry. At The Point Pub we order 3 dozen plus a salad, we can hardly finish it.
The salt and pepper wings came out with a small tub of, you guessed it, salt and pepper. Think about it, the wings are dry so how would the salt and pepper stick to them? Come on, could you try just a little harder?? There's a salt and pepper shaker on the table, what's the difference? At The Point the salt and pepper is part of the coating on the wing. Brilliant!!
Don't go here for the wings.
After stopping in for a burger a few days ago, and giving Woody's a generally favourable review, I stopped by today for another as I was in the area. What a difference. After sitting down and having several waitresses walk by me, speaking to and looking after tables right next to me, FINALLY someone asks if I've been helped.
Ordered the Triple Cheese, Mushroom, Chipotle Burger and this time it was terrible. Different buns than last time, dry and stale so that it broke apart in my hands. Cheese not melted, not a hint of chipotle, Fries were cold and tasteless, burger patty was dry and overcooked.
No quality check from the waitress until well after I was done.
A brutal effort. What a difference a few days makes.
Food 7/10 Had a basic cheeseburger with fries. It was as simple as you can get in a burger,, bought in patty, bought in fries, plain bun but prepared perfectly for what it was. Hot, juicy, cheese melted, fries hot. Not gourmet but good for what it was
Service 7/10 Attentive staff on a busy night, although a couple moved next to me because they were having difficulty flagging down anyone where they were previously seated. My only issue is that after ordering and waiting a reasonable 10 minutes, I was told that the food would be a little longer because they had a fundraiser in the back room and were backed up in the kitchen. Fair enough, I appreciate the heads up ... HOWEVER, someone seated near me whom was obviously a regular because his girlfriend showed up and was given a beer without having to order because they knew what she drank, ordered well after me and got his food well before me. Clearly, put his order above mine, not impressed
Value 8/10 Burger and fries about $10, can't complain
Ambiance 7/10 Typical busy pub, the commotion coming from the fundraiser in the back was mildly annoying
My Chowhound friend and I went to Woody's today for lunch. I dont like eating w.my friend just anywhere as just stated she is a diehard Chowhound blogger and participant. We chose Woody's close to a venue we were attending. For a rain Saturday afternoon,it was busy but we got a seat and our waitress was very genuine. She gave good recommendations on the food. I had the Tequila chili prawns and my friend had the short rib sandwich. Both dishes were very good,my friend actually liked her sandwich so much she wished she'd ordered the ful dinner. good clean place, food was much better than expected. Sure they have standard pub fare, but the prawns, short rib sandwich, and specials of hoisin chicken lettuce wraps and halibut bites were more than I usually find on the standard fare pubs. Waitress said burgers were great and salads ample, looking at the table beside me I believe her. Sure, little pricier than some places, but I feel you get what you pay for.
Went to start using up a gift card, sat at the bar one recent afternoon. Interesting place, almost feels as if they decided to upgrade a dive of a place, got 1/2 way and ran out of money. Some apsects are quite attractive, some remind me of a bar from the 80's. Same with the clients a mix of old barfly regulars and pretty people.
The bargirl was very pleasant (and cute) and did a fine job looking after me. Had the wing special, and no disrespect the the previous reviewer, I thought they were just fine for 20 cents. C'mon, it's 20 cents! I DID find it weird it costs more to have them tossed in sauce as opposed the sauce on the side, and the Thai sauce I did have was not remotely Thai flavoured, but other then that they were fine.
$2.80 for a warm iced tea ... $1 for refills (not told that when I was offered a refill which drives me nuts).
I'd probably stop by again if I happened to be right there, but wouldnt make a special trip.
Food and ambience is what you'd expect from a local pub. My only issue was the wings. When you order them, they come served with the sauce of your choice on the side. I'm no wings connoisseur, but anytime I've ever ordered wings, they are coated with the sauce when they arrive at your table. I find they taste much better than when you dip them. Something to do with the sauce soaking into the meet and bones I guess.
Anyways, if thats your thing and you like sauce on the side then this is your place.
The staff at Woody's is fabulous! Kudos to them! But, and this is a big but get rid of the chicken wing specials of Mon./Tues. night because you are killing chickens far too early. In my life I have never seen chicken wing this small. Regardless of how you ordered them they were 1" long but even for $.20 each they were not a bargain. Come on Gordie you can do better than that!!
I hate putting in poor reviews, and seldom do, but today pushed me over the edge. The last couple of times I have eaten there the food has been OK at the best. However today did it. Five of us went for lunch and three of us had the lunch special of braised short ribs. Well the portion was large, however the meals were stone cold, so cold the meats juices were congealed. I could not eat my meal. In fact only one of us ate more than a few bites of meat. One of us were starved and ate it anyway after a few drinks. The salad was so smothered in dressing I had to leave the bottom half. Our friend had a differnt meal, a chicken queso, which was also cold. The pleasant waitress asked how the meal was and I explained not good, "O" would you like it boxed up, hello no.
Woodys is a great neighbourhood bar to go to during the week, wouldnt set foot in the door on a weekend though to much like a night club. The food isnt bad, menu has quiet a bit of selection, and the special arent to bad at all. Always sit at the bar and 90% of the time get great service.
