Food was ok if you don't mind the grease.

Came here with a bunch of friends on the weekend, and we were surprised at how empty the restaurant was. We all ordered the afternoon tea specials with drinks. It took the food a little while to arrive, but that was ok, because my friends and I were chatting anyway. They brought my friends' drinks to them, but they somehow forgot about my drink or didn't put it down on the order. It took my drink a long time to arrive, and it finally came when I was almost done my food. We all ordered some fried noodles and fried rice, and my husband ordered baked pork chop on rice. The flavour of the fried rice and noodles were ok, except we all found them really greasy. All our plates had a thick layer of grease at the bottom after we were done. The baked pork chop my husband ordered was thickly battered and was tough to chew. At least everything was cheap, but probably would not be back anytime soon.

Sizzling Plates!

Westwood has a gigantic selection of dishes, with emphasis on set dinners and sizzling plates. I have had a lot of great meals there. The most memorable item was the snake soup (a winter food, really). Usually I just get a sizzling plate. There are so many combinations, but I usually have the steak and giant prawns or the steak and chicken cutlet. They also do a very good lettuce wrap, and they have monthly specials.

The service is usually good, and the ambience really depends on where you sit. I suggest you do not go into the enclosure at the center of the restaurant, as it is noisy and filled with kitchen fumes. The tables near the big TV's are okay. They seem to play an endless stream of Canto-pop videos... And yes, the bathrooms are clean (ish). They also have tons of mall parking. Definitely worth a visit iif you are nearby.

We were hungry

We were in Coquitlam and was hungry so we decided to check out this cafe. We thought it's going to be decent since most of the Chinese cafe are pretty good (I was wrong!) but this one was a disappointment. We'll never go again. The food, I'll give it 6.5/10. They do have cheap combo but still, I prefer better quality food.
We tried Kirin restaurant upstairs and it's pretty good.

Not that great HK cafe food
By aregma of Burnaby (115 Reviews)

Had dinner here this weekend, and can't say I'm too impressed with it. It may be good for coquitlam, but its not good compared to other HK cafe places I have been to. Price wise, its more than other HK cafe restaurants I have been to.

I had the baked cod on rice, which was more pricey than almost every other place I have had it. My friend had the hotplate mix and match. The cod was ok, nothing special to warrant the increased price.

I rated the service as poor, because the hot plate they brought out was really really hot, as in hot oil was shooting out from the plate. They put it down like right in front of my friend, and she jumped back as a lot of tiny oil droplets hit her arm/face. The waiter just plut it down and left. I think that was pretty poor customer service. She just stood back from her table for a few minutes and then pushed the plate to the centre of the table.

The portions were generous but the quality was not good. We had chicken and pork filet. The cream of mushroom soup in the beginning was pretty bad, I would say worse or near from can quality. The dinner bun that came with it was ok.

I think with the poor service by placing a burning hot plate near my friend was pretty bad, but otherwise was ok, you could flag someone down if you looked hard enough for a few minutes. Food wise it was ok to not so good, and price wise it is significantly more expensive than other HK cafe places I have been in vancouver.

This was a different experience

Well this wasn't quite what I expected - I guess I'm not familiar with "Hong Kong" style.

There was an abundance of western dishes on the menu; like spaghetti, chicken cutlets, steaks, russian borscht, french toast etc..... It was not a typical chinese restaurant that's for sure.

Now the food was good, no question there - We had shanghai noodles and sweet & sour pork with rice. I would have liked to have had a vegetable dish but there weren't any any on the menu. The Hong Kong tea with milk was okay, but I'd have preferred a more traditional chinese jasmine.

Can't say I'd go out of my way to go here again.

Good late night restaurant in Coquitlam city centre

This place offers a variety of menu and they are open late into the night. My favourite is the combination grill. You choose two type of meats that they will grill and serve on a hot plate. For $12.99, it comes with soup, bread, side of fries, mash potato, spaghetti, or rice and a drink. I like their boneless sparerib with the cream mushroom sauce.

Service is also okay. The food is fast to come out. Not much for ambience though.

Every time I went there, I always get good service. The people are also nice and polite even to people who don't speak their language. I have had many bad experiences in some Chinese restaurants, but not in this one. They serve western and eastern food, depend on your mood they are all good. The place is also big, has many tables, no lining-up. Best restaurant cafe in town.

I saw this Restaurant on the Vancouver Sun once and so I came to try it out. The menu has a huge variety of selections with both Western and chinese. Considering it is a chinese styled diner, their service is better off than other dining locations. As I live in coquitlam, I go there very often after I've tried out this place since they have different varieties for lunch, dinner and midnight snacks. Most importantly, they open till midnight so before I go home, I can still grab some midnight snack from them.

Best Chinese restaurant in town

Westwood Cafe, a Chinese restaurant that has more than just chinese food..this restaurant serves variety of selections with both Western and chinese food. This restaurant have 11 different menus serving in different timings. Opens at 11 and closes at midnight. The restaurant's design is nice and have good ambiance. They also have a patio, which is rare for a chinese restaurant to have. The restaurant was once wroten on The Vancouver Sun. Many people choose this restaruant for anual party event, that includes The Coquitlam McDonald's Restaurant Group, they have the whole restaurant booked out every year for anual party. They serve from beer and wine to coffee and tea.I had met the boss there and had gotten a chance to talk with him, he is a very friendly guy, and all his workers too. He told me this restaurant was opened in mid 2004, and he worked very hard to get the usuals like myself to come.

For food and drinks, in lunch time there are mini meals that has dishes like rice, fried rice noodle, fried rice, spaghetti, chicken cutlets, chicken / beef / Fillet steaks, french toast. Luch specials have russian borscht, cream soup that comes with the meal for some of them. For dinner, they have everything u want plus things that u have never try before. Starting at 9 pm until midnight they have dishes that are only $5 each, and after $20 u get a free coggee, good deal. They also have Hong Kong style drinks that's really really good. What they also do is , if u happened to get live seafood from the supermarket, you can bring them to this restaurant and the make it or you for as low as $3 / ib, including King Crab.

As for priceand potions, food ranges from 5.95 - 36 a dish, most are at the 7-12 dollar range. Potions are fairly large even for the mini meals, but the late night dish that are $5 are small, but it's $5 bucks only, so to me is still a fair deal.

As for service, I would recommend you to ask for some help from one of the waiters there to help u out, just to make sure you get the best stuff from there, be coz it could be pretty confusing with that much choices. One of the best waiter you should find is Benny, he is a polite and nice young fella, and he would explain all ur needs there. Ask for Benny then u have nothing to worry about, I have invited lots of friends to this restaurant, and all of them liked it lots. If u ever happened to think this restaurant is bad, it 's probably you got the wrong dishes there. And remember things that you dont see in the menu they will still make for u, u just have to ask for some help form one of them. This restaurant also provides party trays for To Go for $188, which is enough for 25 people. Also, the restaurant accept bookings for church , family and company event. They have a big enough seats to take up to 160-180 ppl at once i believe.

Here are some of the best dishes they have if you have never tried those , you cant say this restaurant is not good, be coz it is good: Honey Sauce w/ Prawns , Steam Chicken and Fried Rice in Lotus Leaf, Honey Garlic Pork Chop, beef with chinese broccoli, Deep Fried Chicken Wings / Squid with Pepper and Salt, Fried Live Crab with pepper and Salt, Fried Live Lobster with cream sauce, Western style Mix and Match Sizzling Hot Plates.

I had always love this restaurant and still will, try it for urself and u will know, I promise it will be one of the best experience you have in dinning.

I love their baked pork chop with fried rice (or spaghetti). I also like their club house sandwich with fries...and also their baked seafood on fried rice with cream sauce. And also their sizzling plates are delicious. A very nice atmosphere to be in. I like their washrooms. Very nice. I rate this cafe/restaurant a 5/5!

It's pretty inconsistent, sometimes the service is slow sometimes it's quick. Don't expect high quality service, the servers don't smile nor do they come back to ask you if everything's alright. Typical hk style cafe.

The mini meals are a good deal, comes with a drink and pretty filling depending on what you order. They have a large selection, nothing fancy.

I used to go to Westwood Cafe all the time. But first, I'll like to go over some of the props about this place. Between 11-5, Westwood Cafe offers the mini lunch set. For less than 10 dollars, each set meal comes with a drink. It is great value. Not to mention, the "mini" lunch set actually taste pretty good and they don't seem to skip out on size at all.

However, the customer service is a concern for a customer can stand at the door for 10 minutes before being offered a seat at a table. Customer service already isn't the worst concern. There is one time, I saw a cook coming out of a washroom without washing his hands. Yes, that's right. A cook. Not a waitress. That was the last time I was there.

My Go-to Chinese Restaurant
By golfboy of Port Moody (10 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, March 26, 2007 - 6:09pm [Dine in]

I'm somewhat of a Chinese food buff...I love the stuff and I've had my fair share of good (and bad) food at many establishments. What I tend to go for are the hearty, filling, home-cooking type meals you find at smaller places where families out for a casual dinner or dating couples will go. Westwood Cafe is just such a place and it does all things well in my opinion.

Westwood Cafe is located within Henderson Mall on Lincoln Ave and Pinetree in Coquitlam. You can enter either from the Lincoln Ave entrance or from within the mall (during mall hours). It is definitely only for casual dining as the atmosphere is decidely functional. Many tables closely spaced and TVs showing the latest HK soap opera are the norm here. You will also not find many non-asians eating here which for me is a sign that the food is either good or cheap (or sometimes both!). While I wouldn't call the menu "cheap", it is fairly inexpensive and two people can fill-up for under $30 at dinner time. Be warned however, that if you are not accustomed to "real" Chinese food, you will need to go with someone who is the first couple of times you go as the menus are extensive and can be overwhelming for the uninitiated. Otherwise, the food is excellent and the portions are large. I like almost all the noodle dishes and the deep fried squid with pepper salt is VERY addictive. Hot pot dishes (which are a kind of Chinese casserole) are very good as well. The also serve lobster and crab, but I would stick to the seafood specialty restaurants for those items.

My favorite thing about Westwood cafe though, is the fact they are open until midnight everyday (but after 10pm you need to use the outdoor entrance).

All in all, this place is just the ticket for a casual Chinese dinner or a late night craving. Highly recommended.

Well this was certainly a different "chinese retaurant" I guess Hong Kong style is ?????. The sweet and sour pork was okay, the sauce good, but the pork was chuncks bigger than a toonie, little meat lots of fat. It was odd to be served the soup at the end of the meal rather than at the start. I can't see stopping there again.
