Went on a Friday night with an Entertainment coupon. Interior decor desperately needs an upgrade. Pretty dead for a Friday only 3 or 4 tables. The lounge was empty. The host/owner?/waiter reminded me of Basil Fawlty. Slow service. Very mediocre food that they pile on (large portions). I guess they are trying to get rid of it. Asked another waitress for some bread. She was very snooty and said "I'll get your server". They seemed more concerned with room service and take out orders. They definitely cannot handle more than a couple of tables at a time. Won't be going back.
Decided to give this place a try with my Entertainment Book coupon. The interior decor was totally out of date. The service was alright, although the waitress got a little impatient with my friend and I when it took us a while to decide what to order.
My friend and I both ordered a pasta dish. When our entrees came, we were both shocked by the portion sizes, they were HUGE!!! Definitely comparable to the portions at Anton's.
I ordered the fettuccine with salmon. The salmon wasn't very fresh, and some of the pieces were overcooked, some were fine. But pasta was very bland, lacked seasoning and there was way too much sauce. The description of the dish mentioned cream sauce and parmasan, so I was a little disappointed when I didn't see any fresh parmasan on my pasta, neither could I taste very much of it in the sauce.
Won't be back again even with a coupon.
The restaurant is located in a motel on the Lougheed Highway. There is an adjoining bar/grill, with a common entrance.
To start a nice girl sat us down and gave us the menu. After a while a big man, with no smile, came by and took our order.
The meal started with four slices of complimentary French bread. The butter was served in those little plastic packets and was hard as rock. The bread basket and plates were never removed from our table.
I had the herb cod and my wife had halibut with a creamy dill sauce. My cod was hard and a little cold in the middle - obviously frozen ! The cod was smothered in dry herbs that did nothing for the taste. There was no taste to the fish at all. It came with rice and steamed veges. The rice was a little boring as were the veges. Needless to say I used plenty of salt and pepper to try and get a little bit of flavour.
Sounds from the adjoining bar could be heard - nothing like listening to a bunch of old drunk men during dinner !!
The waiter never came by to ask how everything was. We had to wave down a server to get more drinks and get our bill. I had originally put my visa down, but I knew it would take too long, so I put cash down and left.
I will not go back to this restaurant.
Worthwhile...
I have to agree with some of the negative points from the first reviewer but there were some redeeming values at this place too. We made reservations as this was 7 PM Friday night. When we got there, we were escorted to a table marked Reserve. It had a window and the farthest away from the kitchen.
The waiter took maybe 2 minutes to get to us: the place had some 8 tables occupied and in these economic times, I can understand the visible staff, 3 in all. The wine selection came quite quickly and he took our order. Shortly there after, the French bread slices and whipped butter patties were served.
We had chosen a Chicken breast and a Seafood Supreme dish. No problem with a switch to salad instead of starch. The order might have taken a little longer than at other restaurants, but the taste was awesome and portion sizes were huge. With the 2 for 1 coupon, the $19 entrees were worth it. We asked for a doggie bag home and after commenting on how tasty the bread was, the waiter came back with the bill and 4 more slices of bread, in a convenient container.
It was noted that PST was charged on the whole bill and then the discount applied. Just as Revenue Canada wants. Maybe some people might argue the point but I appreciate following the rules. Bodes well for the restaurant staff who probably follow all the other government regulations.
Ambiance: some orginal artwork that adds to the wall decorations.
All in all, a worthwhile evening. A balance between service and price. Well worth the cost of food. We'll be back, (with next year's coupon).
