stopped by this place today at lunchtime. It was empty but looked inviting. There was a tray of tea biscuits on the counter with a sign saying 'fresh baked and free.' We picked the $5.99 soup/sandwich/coffee special. There was a choice of four soups and four sandwiches. I picked the seafood soup, turkey ham sandwich and peppermint tea and my partner picked the mushroom soup and bbq beef sandwich and coffee.
There are lots of couches to lounge around on but as we ordered soup we sat at a table with nice cushions.
The soup arrived in lovely big bowls and were garnished nicely. Definately homemade. It was a much bigger bowl than I expected for this price and came with a wooden spoon. They've only been open two months so the spoons looked like they had never been used(which is why we asked how long they had been open for). My soup had lots of rice, shrimp and scallops, but was a little bland. I don't normally salt things, but had to for this dish. My partner liked his soup. All sandwiches freshly made when ordered and arrived looking great. Large whole wheat hoagie bun with meat, tomato, lettuce, bell pepper, as well as thin strands of cabbage and carrot. Delicious!! My tea was also nicely presented and was loose leaf. The tea cup was very unique with flowers stamped into the saucer. I was full after lunch and was amazed at the portion size for the price. In Vancouver, I can't buy a sandwich like this for six bucks let alone have tea and soup as well! The menu is limited but yummy.
The only other person that came in while we were having lunch was someone who ordered a bagel for takeout so hopefully business picks up and this place stays around or maybe it's busier later at night as they have long hours.
