A sushi restaurant in Coquitlam Centre.
I have to admit I didn't have a meal here, but I did have some of my sister's take-out. After trying it, I can't say I would go back for more. The sushi was really bland, especially the cali roll. No mayo mixed in with the crab and no vinegar in the sushi rice. I guess some would call it a "fresh" taste, but I think a cali roll should be somewhat creamy. Plus vinegar in sushi rice is a must.
The sushi combo my sister ordered took quite a long time to make considering she was the only one there basically.
I do have to say that the eating area (can't really call it a restaurant) was clean - a definite plus.
I was in Coquitlam Centre, when suddenly I needed sushi. It happens. I saw at least 3 places in the mall. This one looked good, and it had the best price.
I had a California roll, a cucumber roll, and a beef teriyaki roll, washed down with a bowl of miso soup. The sushi was well prepared and fresh if a bit on the small side even at the relatively cheap prices, and the miso was great considering it cost a dollar. This restaurant does a huge (I mean there was a lineup) takeout business, but I decided to cram myself into one of the tiny chairs in the eating area. The staff was friendly and the food was prepared to order and arrived quickly. I noticed that some of the customers were greeted by name. I guess they must have been regulars.
I won’t say it was an unforgettable dining experience, but for mall sushi it was pretty good. If you are in the wilds of Coquitlam, Togo isn’t a bad choice.
It's a solid little joint and well decorated, plus the staff are very friendly. It is on the small side, but they only have room for what they can manage. The food is made fresh, promptly, and very carefully. They also give you a free appetizer while you wait that's a yummy broth with a bit of noodle tied in a bow with bits of kara-age on top. The tempura batter for the butterfly prawn is very light and crunchy, and never under or over-cooked, but most of all, I love their salmon sushi. I've also had their chirashi-zushi, which was exactly what I expected. Naturally, it's still hard to get more tea when you need it, but those are the risks of dining out, and you just have to speak out and git sum, darnit!
Me and my husband always go to Togo Sushi. We tend to sick with the same order, I usually get the avocado roll and mango roll and DH usually gets the California Combo. We are always happy with our order. The Miso Soup is great, they don't put seaweed bits in it (which we like). Also they're always quick, never usually have to wait more than 5 minutes for our order.
Ordered a chopped scallop roll and spicy salmon roll to go. Girls that took the order were friendly - seemed like one of them was being trained.
While waiting for the order, I noticed one of the girls lean over to the sushi chef and say that that doesn't look like a spicy salmon roll. He muttered something that only she could hear. I didn't realize it was my order he was working on as there were a few ppl waiting.
Once I got home, I realized that the chef decided to make me a smoked salmon roll instead. Not impressed as that is not what I ordered and he clearly didn't seem to care since the girl who took the order had mentioned something.
Will not be returning.
This place is the tiniest little place imaginable. I've gone here several times and I always enjoy the sushi I get. It's prepared fresh and has always been tasty. But I have to agree with the reviewer below me, it always takes a LONG TIME for orders to be completed. Even if I'm getting a roll or two and I'm the only person there, it seems to take abnormally long. However, the taste and price is worth the wait so I don't mind sitting around for 5-10 minutes.
