Sushi Oyama in Metrotown has been one of our favourites for years now. We were quite excited when we saw the "opening soon!" sign in Coquitlam since it's closer to home.
We've been to the Coquitlam location 4-5 times since it's grand opening and have found it to be just as good as the Metrotown location in terms of food. In terms of service it's actually quite improved with the ability to ring for a server via a button on each table!
Ambiance is a bit more updated than the Metro location, and quite modern. Booths and private rooms are spacious and less cramped.
Food quality we've found is on par with the Metro location, and the menus are identical.
Another plus is way fewer crowds. We've found almost any time we've come there has been ample room.
The only down side is parking is mediocre. The lot is small, and often packed with folks visiting other establishments in the area. There is limited street parking available as overflow though.
Overall we've quite enjoyed the new Sushi Oyama in Coquitlam and hope they're here to stay!
Exceptional, ever time, after 100 lunches.
To put things in context, order the Nigiri Sushi or Sushimi sushi lunch boxes. They might be $10, but you'll get an amazing, professional, fresh, prime cuts of salmon and tuna, colorful interesting lunch. The quantity is almost too much. It's just awesome. After you do that we'll talk.
Today, I realized I wrote a bad review for this place in 2012 and should have updated / corrected it a lot earlier. Have been there 100+ times in last 2 years, (once, twice a week), and it's always the best. There is no better.
The two young girls working the floor are great. No attitude, they're fast, friendly, mind their own business and do what you want them to do. Take care of my lunch. I give the owner credit for choosing and training his staff well.
Three sushi chefs behind the counter. Young guys making art out of the freshest of ingredients. Thank you for many, many great lunches.
Decor? Interior? No fooling around, it's beautiful. Fire, water, stone, - the owner invested a lot of money to build a great restaurant.
My apologies for not writing a great review sooner. You have my best wishes for the future. Thank you.
i love the food in this place, i can see it has gone a lot better over the years and now i can see all the money and effort the owner has put in. i love the food, the service and the ambience. its great to see restaurants like this become an amazin place. its gonna get far if it keeps going like this
This place has opened about 2 month now and I was there when it first opened and again couple days ago. When it first opened the place was renovated really nicely but the food and service was a little slow as usually just opened restaurants are, but when I was back couple days ago there was a huge party seeming about over 40 people at one side and other spots were almost all full. Seenig the huge party made me want to have my birthday party here. Anyways the service has gone incredibly great and the food was pretty quick to come the price is fairly decent. I had the las vegas roll and the chicken terriyaki and it was all so~ good. I would definitely come back again and make this place my regular.
