Im so sad that the new managment/owners have changed the portions. I used to eat here weekly and im sad to say that I will not return. I miss the friendly female staff that used to work there. They used to make the best little cookies. Ive noticed that the prices have stayed the same. I ordered, what would have been enough for 3 people, and I could've eaten it all to myself. Portions are wayyyyy to small!!
What a sad sad sad day. Goodbye Sushi Mori.
We were puzzled that our experiences at Sushi Mori were so below par lately. Gone are the good size portions, the little free appies (which were such a nice touch) and gone are the friendly, efficient waitresses. In its place we found small portions and a disorganized kitchen. I hope the new owners are developing a whole new base to draw their customers from because the regulars will not be coming back when asked to pay the same for far less....
We have been going to SushiMori in Coquitlam since it opened... since the change in management it has gone downhill. Today was so disappointing; portions were much smaller, salad was lacking in Tobiko and other things and there were no complimentary appetizers like Edamame and Oshinko. Thumbs down.
Last Saturday my Mom and I were driving around Coquitlam knowing that we wanted Sushi but couldnt decide where to go so thought we would drive until we saw one that caught our eye....Boy am I ever glad we found Sushi Mori!!
We went for lunch and were immediately greeted and given free miso soups (not very common anymore), the inside of this place is awesome, fake cherry blossom trees (not tacky), very clean, great vibe and unique seating and dishes. All the staff were super, spoke English well, came by frequently to asked if we had made a choice or asked if we had any questions, filled our drinks before even getting emptied. Food came out fast and was AMAZING...the prices are that of any other sushi place but is so much better, fresh, warm, good portions...great seafood. I eat sushi out once or twice a week and this is by far my fav place. All finished up with a yum yum chocolate with the bill and all of them saying Thank you and Good bye as you left :) I went back less than a week later.

This was our go to place for sushi. Recently we have seen the portion sizes decrease.
Waitress threw out the rice from chicken teriyaki leftovers. We called back the same day and she said people don't like all that rice. Not the same quality and service as when they first opened.. very clean and cozy. but they need to do something about the small portion sizes before we will go back.
Way out here, I wasn't expecting much, but we were lured in anyways. True taste of Japan? Really, we know true Japanese restaurants probably wouldn't say that and probably wouldn't be out here.
We were almost right. Inside, nicely done. Could've almost fooled us, but we soon figured out it was a Korean run joint. Nothing wrong with that, because they do a surprisingly good job. They had a few daily specials out, most of which are pretty unique. We tried the "rice" burger, which was quite good. Had a bento box and some other stuff. I gotta give 'em credit, they did a pretty good job of it. Everything was well done and the sushi was of good quality.
Their specials were certainly a good effort. Some half-way unique stuff here. Gotta give em points for execution and effort. I don't think I would be embarrassed to get caught eating here.
Is it worth a trip out here? Emphatic NO. But if I lived out here or got stuck out here and had a craving for sushi, I can't think of a better place at the moment.
We've been here a few times before and each time we really enjoyed the food and experienced good to great service. The food is more authentic than the average Tri-cities sushi joints and the prices and quality are great.
However, we just had lunch there today and it was like the twilight zone! We arrived just before the lunch rush and were greeted by an waitress who showed us to a booth. Nothing out of the ordinary...
10 minutes later we haven't even got our menus and people that came in 5 minutes after us are already sipping on their green tea and ordering. On top of it she makes it to a group of 3 guys at least 4 times while we sit there wondering what the hell is going on.
Anyway, I get up and approach her and ask if she is our waitress and explain to her we haven't even received our menus yet while she tends to people that just came in.
To make a long story short we were not the only ones as about 5 take out customers and a couple of other tables that had ordered also waited to place an order etc.
The food was good as usual and no problems there.
I figured out why the service was so different from our first visits - THE OWNER WAS NOT THERE.. Usually he has that place running like clock work and he did show up by the end of our meal and boy did the attention to service change almost instantly.
I hope he does well as I can see he really goes out of his way to make sure the customers get treated right. We will still return based on the good food and his dedication.
When you first walk into Sushi Mori, you are taken away by the gorgeous Japanese Garden decor. It feels really welcoming and warm. We went on a Friday evening to meet with friends for dinner. No one greeted us at door and after several minutes, finally someone came but didn't say "Hi" or anything. Even fellow patrons that were waiting said that no one had acknowledged them at all. When I told the waitress we had reservations for 7pm, she looked confused and quickly went back to the back counter to check and brought back menus to lead us to our reserved booth.
It took forever for the waitress to come back to take our drink orders or food orders. The only time we would see someone was when they plopped down the food and walked quickly away. Also, they never brought us any tea until towards the end of the meal, when they asked if if we needed anything else!
Anyways, the food was yummy but not overly wowing. We ordered several special rolls such as the Catapillar Roll, Geisha Roll, Happy Mango Roll, and the Yam Roll. We also had the Spicy Tuna Sashimi, Agedashi Tofu, Tempura and Seafood Udon. The rolls, while large, were only alright. The Catapillar Roll and Happy Mango Roll were simply California Roll with a different topping. The Geisha Roll was the most unique with radish and beef mixed with some other different ingredients. The Seafood Udon was quite yummy too. I think their cooked dishes may have been better than the sushi because I noticed many tables ordering those items.
We've been to the Sushi Mori in North Vancouver, (not sure if it's owned by the same people) but that location is a lot smaller and service from beginning to end is extremely inviting and friendly. I think Sushi Mori Coquitlam really needs to have more staff on a busy Friday night to meet their customer's needs in such a large restaurant space.
A gorgeous Japanese restaurant with a lot of potential, but they must work on their service and keep it consistent.
Had lunch here on saturday and shared a chirashi don and lunch box with my friend. They started off by giving us some free appetizers, like pickles and potato salad. Seemed nice, but did not really agree with me.
The food came, and it was a little disappointing based on other reviews. I have been to many places that have fresher fish. I found the rice in the rolls and chirashi way too warm, making the fish really warm as well. I found the tempera okay only, it was too oily for me.
The service was pretty decent, since there was a teapot on our table, we didn't see them unless they took our order, brought food or brought the bill.
Value wise, it seems middle of the road. The lunch specials didn't seem like as good a deal as other places I've been to, but certainly not overpriced.
Inside was mostly nice and the trees were a nice touch. But some tacky decorations around the side and a little wobbly table didn't help.
Probably wouldn't make the trip to come here again.
Sushi Mori is an elegantly decorated Japanese restaurant in Port Moody, with a sushi bar, a dozen or so tables, and booths. I visited there in the evening, and the ambience with the beautiful lights and the Japanese décor completely isolated me from the plain city and from the parking lots.
The menu was straight to the point and attractively priced with ample choices. Since I wanted to be nicely surprised and comfortably spoiled for my first visit, I was adventurous enough to have the one of the restaurant owners, CK, pick the dishes for me with his choices.
Then, hors d’oevre, appetizers and different kinds of amazingly fresh sashimi along with warm sake pot on the lamp were brought to the table. All of them were well presented on the dishes and served by considerate serving staff. Most importantly, all the chosen dishes were lightly, yet delicately textured and very pleasant on my palate, therefore they were perfect for healthy eaters.
All the diners were greeted and treated as guests of his own home, so it was an amicable, pleasant dining experience for me in the neighborhood.
They were in the process of setting up TVs, so it will be more fun to hang out at Sushi Mori on hockey nights as well.
I have eaten at, and ordered take out from Sushi Mori for the past year. In the past few months I found that the food and service has either been a hit or a complete miss. This last take out made me never want to order from them again.
Chicken Teriyaki Don - usually love this dish, this time the chicken was not prepared properly and I ended up spitting up a chunk of cartilage, not to mention the skin was soggy and the rice was in hard clumps. Upsetting.
California Rolls - usually decent, but this time I threw them out after trying one of them. They were lukewarm and smelled rather unsettling, like spoiled fish. (This is not the first time I threw out/returned California Rolls while eating at Sushi Mori)
Dynamite Rolls - my favorite dish and when I started eating at Sushi Mori I fell in love with the way they made them. This time unfortunately I was disappointed. They were, again, soggy and lukewarm, no consistency in the roll and it fell apart when I picked it up with the chopsticks. Bland flavor and a general unpleasant eating experience.
Bottom line is, this restaurant fails to consistently deliver the level of food that it used to in the past. In the past 3 months I have been disappointed with the food more often than not.
After our first stop in, we decided we were getting a cold or something. The miso was salty, the tai a warm and greenish in colour.
Our second time back, my girlfriend lost her dinner. Salty soup again, off fish, poor poor tasting rolls, mayo-filled california rolls.
Maybe I just had some bad nights there, but I'll never go back.
I go to this sushi restaurant on a regular basis as it is so close to home. I really enjoy the majority of what I have tried. I have tried quite a few sushi restaurants but have not had any real Japanese sushi to compare with so this review is good for the average Tri-City citizen looking for some Canadianized sushi. The California Rolls are not very good but the portions for the rolls are plenty. You get twice as much in one roll than you would get anywhere else. Especially compared to Nagano. My favorite roll is the avocado and kappa roll which I crave on a regular basis. Their spicy salmon roll is very different from the average Tri-City sushi joint spicy salmon roll. It wasn't really up my alley as they used their own kind of spicy sauce as opposed to wasabi. Their miso soup and sunomono salad is good. All in all I haven't heard any complaints about the taste of the food from any of my friends or boyfriend who have eaten there regularly as well. The only negative I have is that we ordered some edamame about a month ago and when we opened the container it had a dead fly in it. Not very appetizing but when we called them to let them know they offered us a $20 credit. The next time we ordered take-out from there we ordered 2 servings of edemame and only received 1. After letting them know they were very apologetic and gave us another $20 store credit. Everything seems to be quite fresh and I will continue to go to this restaurant even if its just for the avocado and kappa roll. DELICIOUS!
Ambiance is fantastic, great place to take a date. The fish for sashimi/nigiris/rolls are really fresh they are the gem of the restaurant. Avoid the teriyakis and boring noodles. Avoid the bento crap, waste of money.
Bathrooms could be cleaner. Nice place for a drink and some sashimi. Service was fantastic, free appies from our server :D

We came here two years ago and found the overall experience just "ok". 2 years later and the place has really improved. As soon as we sat down they brought us something to nibble on. Everything was delicious! The sashimi was wonderfully fresh, the tempura batter was great, and the rice was so perfectly sweet. The service was fabulous and even entertaining! We'll be back. Soon.
Upon entering, we were given a mini presentation of the specials for the night. My fiance was surprised to see one of the deals of the evening was a jug of Sapporo beer for $10. Pretty good deal. :)
The decor was very well done. The restaurant is filled with trees and origami cranes hanging from the ceiling...I would say this is the best looking decor I've seen. Even the dishware was beautiful. (natural stone kettles for tea and ceramic plates along with real, metal chop sticks! :D)
The food was great, we were served a complimentary fried fish head upon sitting down and were told that eating it would be "good for our brains" ...maybe we looked like our brains could use some help? ;)
The service was VERY friendly, the food was tasty but the portions were on the smaller side. (my gomae was the teeniest bit of spinach I've ever been served on a big plate. and the salmon sashimi ($10.95) was the smallest serving I think I've ever had.
Everything was delicious...their specialty rolls were amazing flavor and value. The entire experience is one I'm looking forward to having again soon. :)
Went for lunch this week and ordered the lunch box for $ 7.95. It was the largest lunch box I have ever seen and included soup, tea and some fruit. I was so full and content as the ambience was great with nice back ground music and fantastic service. The restaurant is very new so naturally it sparkles with cleanliness. My lunch companion mentioned that a couple of times he walked away as it was so busy but the day I was there it was about 75 % full. I shall return
It was lunch on Easter Sunday. From the outside, the open neon signage was off but we saw some activities inside. So we stopped to check it out and indeed the restaurant was open. We were seated right away and ordered the lunch special menu. Wife had bento C and I got bento A and another order of sushi combo A. There were only 2 servers and they were about 60% of capacity. The tall waiter took our order and he was rushing us and had no manner whatsoever. Food came out fairly quick and they were really good, the tempura is crispy, the rolls that came with my bento were good, salad dressing was unique in a good way. My wife also like her bento and all the sides that came with the bento. The sushi rolls were actually pretty good and comparable to California Sushi, except the spicy tuna sauce is very spicy. Overall, we're happy with the food and will definitely come back to try their fancier sushi rolls (pretty pricey at 9.95 - 11.95)
Now aboout the service. When we asked for the miso soup, the waiter stopped and told us that miso soup is only served when they're not busy and it's complimentary... So he brought us 2 miso soup and left. And we're looking at each other...and thought wait a minute...so I pulled the lunch menu again..and it clearly states that every entree comes with a miso soup near the top. I called the waiter again and asked for a miso...and this time he was really annoyed and said, I gave you the miso already...so you want to order an extra one? I said ..we ordered 3 entrees and they should've come with 3 miso...and immediately I pulled the menu and shoved it at him... he read it and realized his mistake and left...without saying any words...and came back with the miso and left again. Looks like the waiter is new to this place, but his attitude certainly doesn't belong in this business. I was gonna say...hey what's your problem. Now, the other waitress (who apparently overheard our conversation) came and apologized repetitively and said that they were new and they were short of people. We were almost ready to leave without tipping but because of her...we changed our mind.
About the decor, both of us like it. Very creative and nice, like everyone mentioned in previous reviews. But I have to say this, when you visit this restaurant...go check their restrooms...and you'll find listerine, body lotions, sun tan looking lotion, toothpicks, cotton pads, any maybe tampoon...so weird.
I visited Sushi Mori finally with my family. We've got the mango fusion roll and the seafood odens which are what I was very satisfied. Especially the oden soup, it was huge and tasty. It's very korean influeced flavoured, but definitely worth its buck. The service was pretty good considering there weren't too many tables at the time. We had total privacy within the corner. The only thing I would really recommend them was the tea pots. They were way way way too heavy and not hold enough tea. The waitress doesn't seem to come check very often. For someone who crazes tea like me this was a concern for sure. Overall the food was pretty good I would definitely pay another visit soon.
My family love to visit sushi mori, almost every weekend. Also I strongly recommend to my friends. They heard a lot of good reviews and had high hopes for this one. So we decided to try it. Well, it wasn't that good .nigiri sushi rice was too big and hard, like rock, tasted terrible and sashimi presentation was very poor. I asked waitress mmm, she said Sushi chef is changed. This restaurant was very good before they changed sushi chef. The restaurant claiming to be "The best in town!” is by far one of the worst. The fish is slimy, and doesn't have that mmm that's fresh feel in your mouth. My friend ordered lunch from here and when it arrived for takeout it was rancid. How can you serve something that smells like that? Before the sushi was probably one of the best ones I have ever had and the ambiance made the dining there even more memorable. But not any more. Very disappointed
