A small Chinese restaurant opened by the same owners as Sun Gong.
Sun Star is quite new, and opened just at the beginning of this year. They took over the old Shobu restaurant (decor and all). Speaking with the waitress, they are the same owners as Sun Gong, which has closed due to expected skytrain construction.
We decided to give them a try one weekend afternoon and found Sun Star to be quite a deal with their lunch specials.
The lunch menu has everything from Beef with Rice Noodles, to Congee, to Sweet and Sour Pork with rice. Most items are $5.99 and the portions are huge. Even the largest of appetites would have a hard time finishing one dish on their own.
Service wise, it's just one waitress. She's friendly, and her English is passable.
The food once ordered comes out quickly, and piping hot. Overall the food quality is reasonable, but not spectacular. I found their food to be a bit better than Sun Gong, and the waitress did mention they now have 3 different cooks preparing food. They have quite a lot of take out and delivery orders as well.
The decor is not much to look at, but suffices. They have a large LCD TV on the wall, playing Chinese soap operas all the time.
One warning though, we've come back a couple times since, and they are not very punctual with their opening times. Even though it says 11am, often they aren't open until 12pm, or even later. Best to call first to be safe.
Overall if you want really cheap Chinese food, this is a pretty safe bet. No bells and whistles, just decent food at low prices.
