Sultan's serves a menu of authentic, quick serve donairs and Mediterranean side dishes.
A problem I have with many Donair Places is their lack of service and quality. Sultan's Donair has yet to show me any problems regarding both of those. They are never stingy on proportions and always maintain their quality. Their daily specials are also a great quality and I will for sure be returning here in the future!
I am a realtor in the area, I was meeting a client at the starbucks in the corner, we got really hungry. He recommended we go to the Sultan's Donair. I had tried donairs a couple of times before, but didn't like it and found it too greasy...however, had never been to the sultan's and what do you say when your client suggests!!! :) Anyhow, we went there and the first thing I noticed was that this place was so clean that all the machines and everything was spotless! I don't think I have ever seen anything like it anywhere. 2nd the prices were so cheap and the portions were huge. I had the chicken Mix platter with their salad basket. It was so yummy, quite unlike any donair I have tried before. Needless to say that I have become a big fan. My wife is vegetarian and these guys have got a fantastic falafel as well that apparently they make on their own completely fresh. Oh ya, the rice that they have with their platters are also so tasty. Anyhow, would highly recommend this place.
Ok the service was a little off. One person kept taking more than one order and then only filling the first order. She would then say she thought the next lady would fill the others. This hppened 3 times in a row. I placed my one order 3 times.
Now to the food. I am searching for the perfect falafel. This one was very good- crunchy and fried fresh. There was an odd back ground flavour that is probably authentic but I was not used to it and not a super fan. The sauces were the perfect amount, so they did not soak through the pita. They were good but the hot sauce was either not hot enough or forgotten. A regualr falafel was in the $5-6 range. Not high but not cheap. It was relatively small but pretty good. I would go there again if I was in teh area, but would probably not seek it out if I was not.
I have never had a green falafel until today. Somewhat weird. The inside was seriously neon glowing green. And there was an unplesantly odd spice in it. The falafel was crunchy so that was good, but I asked for everything on it and all I could taste was ice berg lettuce. No tomato or onion taste - they put on slices so thin you can read the paper through it on there. Plus there was supposed to be tzatziki or garlic sauce or something on it but it had no flavor. Basically it was edible. Thats it.
I have been here a few times since it has opened. I have never been disappointed. I usually get the chicken donair but have also tried the beef. The meat is always very juicy and delicious. They are also not stingy on filling. My boyfriend got the Sultan Siza and couldn't even finish it! And can he ever eat! The ambiance is nothing to rave about. The huge tv is kind of strange as well. The service is fine. My only complaint regarding the service is that the women working behind the counter are not friendly and don't look very happy to be there!
Sultan's serves up good donairs and shwarma plates. Can get a little busy during lunch as their is a school across the street but they are fairly quick and the place is clean and bright.
The food is fresh and prices are fair. Prices range from about $5 for a regular donair to about $8 for a plate with salad, rice, humous and pita. Choice of garlic sauce or sweet sauce or both...
A good place to take care of a donair craving.
As soon as I entred this restaurant I was impressed. You place your order at the counter where there was three people serving up the Donairs. The portion was huge with nice fresh vegetables and loads of chicken. Hot sauce was an option that I ordered and indeed it is hot!! I understand this place is very busy between 12.00 - 12.30 every day so try not to visit during those hours
I purchased for take-out four donairs from this establishment and must say they were tasty and filling. I had the chicken and beef, two of each. I had wanted to try a lamb version but they were out of lamb on the occasion of my visit. The meat was plentiful and well seasoned, also tender. The vegetable component was nice although the onions were a little bitter and not of the highest quality.
Overall, the food was highly satisfactory and I would not hesitate to return to this Mediterranean establishment.
Family run, good tasting donairs with a fair price. Donairs are made quick as well as fresh. This place usually appeals to the teenagers of Gleneagle (across the street) during weekday lunch breaks. If you plan on getting a donair, plan your time around the lunch break, as it is almost impossible to order anything in the area during lunch break.
