Been coming here for years. The portions are good and the food yummy.
Another entertainment book coupon place. Thank goodness for that.=)
I don't have much to say about service cuz it's non-existent. The ambiance is like every other greek restaurant- lots of lights and really weird colorful tablecloths. For a place close to home and at a sort of okay price - not bad. =)
A bunch of us went to try the food and use my Entertainment Book coupon. We had a good meal. We started with the calamari and saganaki appetizers accompanied by a basket of hot buttery pita bread. The calamari were prefect and tender, and the saganaki was about average.
Moving on to the entrees, two of us had the roast lamb, which featured a gigantic portion of tender roasted meat, as well as the usual sides (Greek salad, 1/2 roast potato, rice pilaf), two more of our group had souvlaki, which was well-prepared, and had the same sides as the lamb. One contrarian among us had the shrimp fettucini, which had tiny shrimp in a vast bowl of unremarkable pasta. All of the entrees were HUGE, and only I was hungry enough to finish.
The servers were friendly and efficient, and the ambience was a bit nicer than most Greek places, but not luxurious, either.
My one complaint was that the soft drinks which were in small glasses to begin with, were NOT bottomless. We got hit for $2.25 for each tiny serving. What a rip off! I should have had beer, and I expect that was their point... That cost them a star overall.
Other than that one complaint we had a mostly satisfying feed. I agree with the previous reviewer: Try the calamari and the lamb. But I would avoid the seafood.
In my opinion you would have to leave Coquitlam to get better Greek food.
ate dinner here on a Friday evening as a co-worker had recommended it. Place was busy. Inside I wondered if they kept the Christmas lights up all year round. Watch your step when you're walking and try to get someones attention through all of the plants in this place. We shared the calamari skaras. They looked more like perogies and were quite tough; Sokela is soooo much better. I had halibut that was a nice large piece, but too dry. The vegetables were overcooked and everything tasted like fennel/licorice. My partner had a huge portion of roast lamb that tasted all right. Unless you're super hungry, you'll have leftovers at this place. Overall, as there are other wonderful greek places that we've tried before like Pallas Athena and Sokela and other yet to try, there is no point in us going back to this place.
I had been there a few times previous with my family. The food was good and the service was decent. However this experience shocked me...
Came in with a party of 4 and After finishing appys our dinners arrived. I had ordered prawn souvalaki ($20- pricy for the amount of food you recieve- 6 small sized shrimp) and instead of the rice and potatoes (which are great) I had a pile of french fries dumped on my plate. We had all ordered souvalaki and without telling us before hand they ran out of potatoes and rice we were suprised with french fries. Our server was unapologetic and we asked to speak with the manager, who said there was nothing she could do and rudely snapped that if we came here for potatoes and rice we could go elsewhere. Myself and others were not paing $18-20 for a skwer of meat/prawns and french fries, so we paid for our appys (no tip obviously) and left.
Rudest and worst service I have ever recieved and still regret not calling and complaining. Too bad the food is good Do not give a resturant like this your business.
The Arni Psito (roast lamb) is to die for and the Domathes are yummy. We are never disapointed by the food. The platter for two is an excellent value and you will always have enough to take home for left overs. The ambiance is typical most Greek restaurants, but is not overdone. Their selction of house Greek wines could be better, but this is a minor thing. We have eaten there over 30 times and It is our favorite Greek restaurant.
Last time I went to this restaurant with my partner. The restaurant had only about 5 tables with people and the rest of the tables were available. We went in, waited for about 3 mins no waiters came to us and seat us even though some of them saw us coming in and walked us by. Then I approach one of them, she said wait here and left us, I waited for about 5 mins still didn't get a table so we decided to leave that restaurant with very POOR service. I was wondering how these amateur works, there were plenty empty tables, and there were some waiters there and there were only few customers, but they couldn't find at least 1 table for us. Probably those amateurs think the guest have to give 10% tip regardless how bad the service, so they don't care about the service. In Europe you give TIP depend on how good your service, not like here, you are forced to give TIP at least 10% of the bill.
Our family went to Spiro's last week and were frustrated by the service and food quality. The calamri was ok but it took about 25 minutes to arrive and there were only three other tables occupied in the restaraunt. The waitress never asked if we wanted refills for our drinks, took forever to remove dirty dishes and glasses, and forgot to bring some requested items.
The entree came with carrots 2 green beans and celery (I think it was celery???)over-cooked to MUSH! The carrots were so overcooked they weren't orange anymore! The Greek salad had no dressing as far as I could tell and NO GREEN PEPPERS AT ALL! When we told the waitress about the peppers, she brought an unappetizing bowl of dry green pepper with no dressing! I ordered a salad and one kabob of lamb. The lamb was plopped on a bare plate with no garnish or tsadsiki...not visually appealing.
The roast potatoes are great but they give you a mountain of rice and two tablespoons of Greek salad, again with no dressing to speak of -nor any green pappers.
It also took about 20 minutes to get the bill and give payment and get out of there. Now only about 5 tables now occupied.
Very underwhelming experience...I sure would like to know who writes those glowing reviews...must be owners' family because this is not even close to a place I would go to again.
Really too bad I would like a good Greek restaraunt close to home.
This was my second choice for a Greek restaurant for a birthday party with friends. I read the reviews and should have listened to the tiny voice in my head that said - the review written on Sept 16 2006 by 'anonymous' - was actually written by the restaurant owner to try and counter previous bad reviews.
The waitresses did a great job in the circumstances, but I have never seen so much food returned to the kitchen. The Calamari was inedible - looked great on the outside, but uncooked on the inside.
The lamb ribs - the same.
Friends were returning their dishes to be recooked - and I was feeling embarressed that I had invited them there.
Now I understood why they had room for a large party on short notice.
I will not be returning - and I doubt any of my friends will.
Last night a group of us (11) went for dinner. From the reviews we thought our experience would be positive! The service was great, the decor was good, the food was something else. The lamb souvalaki...tough, chewy meat, rack of lamb and calamari needed to be returned for more cooking. I understand that the lamb chops were???. I ended up with chicken souvalaki which was very good as I mentioned to the waitress that a previous review had stated 'dry chicken meat'. Our spirits were somewhat damped by the various food going back and forth to the kitchen. The finale was...combining the bills as they "could NOT issue more than six bills at a table" DA!! I would not go back. I felt sorry for the waitress having to deal with all the inadequacies.
I love Greek food but I'm very picky about it. I was a little sceptical about this place but after trying it once, I'm sold! This place has awesome Greek food! I went with a group of friends and ordered different items from the menu... they're all great! The portions are big too. Lamb chops, grilled salmon, BBQ chicken, seafood platter, calamari, Greek ribs... they're all sooo good! I'll definitely be back for more.
My husband and I frequent this restaurant often. Always on the same day of the week, on the same time and we always order the same thing....the Spiro platter. It's a pretty hefty and large order. As usual, we never finish it and we take half of it home. It's decent, normal greek fare with a little bit of everything in it, good, but not outstanding or fabulous. The service is adequate, they do their job at getting the order and giving you the bill. That's it. The restaurant is clean and so is the washroom. Recently, we brought out 18 month son in and asked for a high chair. It was clean and in good condition. I am so sick of seeing restaurants with dirty rundown poor excuses for high chairs. Do they not know that the best way to a diner's heart is thru their kids? The server was sensitive to this and made sure that our son had a straw for his water, a small side plate and a small spoon....oh and extra paper napkins, very thoughtful. We orderd the same as usual, and it was the sme as before. Good, not great or fantastic, but good enough to return to. So why do we come back? Easy, it's clean, we get left alone to talk and review our day, it's not loud and noisy, it's roomy, the prices are average greek food prices, and we get enough for lunch the next day. We've ordered other items on the menu before and were sadly disappointed, we've gone on busier nights and suffered from servers ignoring us, waiting 45 minutes for appetizers, wrong order being delivered to the wrong table, etc..... But we still come back. There is a great many other greek restaurants in the tri-cities and we go there too, but they are either too noisy, too cramped, dirty bathrooms, or have snotty servers who push alcohol sales. So if it's Monday night and we feel like greek, and I really do not want to make lunch for the next day, we go to Spiros.
Best greek restaurant in the lower mainland. I had lamb, it came with veggies and rice. The plate was full with food. I am a good eater, but I could not finish. My son had Lasagna, Of course I tried this too.
Food was so good like outstanding, but really good cooked by a greek chef. Service was alright. Not busy, easy to get seated. Nice greek ambiente. Afterall we will come again to try more different meals.
I love Greek restaurants. Years ago I worked at a Greek restaurant and grew addicted to Greek food from that.
In saying that, this restaurant is pretty mediocre. I've heard so many good things about this place and have been here on many ocassions but am still dissapointed by 1) the service (non-existant, do these people have any personality?) 2) quality of food (no lovin at all) and well, the ambience is your stereo typical Greek restaurant.
The price is mid-range as far as Greek restaurants go, but there is better quality & bigger portions at other restaurants in the tri-cities for less price.
My husband and I came to this restaurant for about 3 or 4 times when we were in the area and craving for Greek food.
The food here is OK, good but not special. However, it is way over priced. I did order a halibut plate with salad, rice, roast potato and some veggie. The halibut is over cooded. Rice and potato is good ( but it's not that hard to cook rice and potato, isn't it???), "Greek" salad here is always filled with cucumer and few pieces of tomato (I thought it should come with tomato, red and green pepper). For the salad, everytime I came here, they gave me 1 tiny piece of lemon.
Service: this is 1 reason that my husband and I decided to not coming back. Everytime we came, we have to wait for 10 or 15 minutes before we can be seat even though there are only 3 or 4 groups of customers in the restaurant. The waitresses walked by, told us to wait without a smile or any greeting.
Food came pretty fast but service is terrible. Wait and wait again for bill to come, bill return, get back our credit card. It took about 40 minutes after we were done with the food to be able to get out of that place.
SERVICE IS A CRUCIAL FACTOR TO KEEP YOU GUYS IN BUSINESS. COME ON. TERRIBLE!!!! "Shake my head".
We recently ate dinner here and really enjoyed our meal. The place is cozy with lots of hanging plants everywhere. Both my husband and myself had the chicken souvlaki. The meal was delicious. The chicken was very tender and the tsatsiki was really tasty. The greek salad was very fresh tasting as were the roast potatoes. We had a house white wine that the waitress recommended which I throughly enjoyed. For dessert I had the baclava and I think it was one of the best I have ever had!
Service was very good and the staff was very friendly. I used my entertainment coupon for the meal and they graciously accepted it. All in all a very good meal for a great price!
I will be returning again soon.
This was my third of fourth visit to Spiros. The previous visits were some time ago and, though I really enjoyed the food, I was bit apprehensive about returning because of some the more recent negative reviews. Well, I'm happy to report that the food was as good as I remember. The prices have gone up -- the lamb shank which had been $16 (I thought it had been unusually good value) is now $20. It was succulent and the portion was large. My husband ordered the calamari meal which was also delicious. They seem to have a particular knack with the calamari because they are probably the most tender and juicy I've tried. My in-laws who accompanied us also enjoyed their meals (steak and lamb chops). An all around good time.
Tried this restaurant on an entertainment coupon. It was sooo good. Everything from service to food. Will definately be back coupon or not. Best food (especially calamari)i've ever had. I gave a four on everything because it all was just so good. I went with a group of friends and everyone enjoyed it...Usually theres some sort of complaint when u go out with a group but not this time.
