Located on Lougheed highway across from Ikea our Coquitlam restaurant offers a great lounge to catch the big game as well as quiet seating areas for more relaxed experience.
I went to Sammy J's last night with a few friends and when we got there, I immediately regret not making reservations. The parking lot was completely full, and finally got a parking space in the crappiest section which was overflowing with about 3 inches of rain water. After a hop and a few skips, we were walking past the windows of the restaurant and it looked really busy. After waiting only a short while, we were seated in the lounge area, which I actually prefered. The whole restaurant was very nice which led me to think this location is pretty new?
Our server was really nice and although you still get the "gotta-be-a-hot-waitress" feel here, they are not as hooched out as the Metro location. The food was not spectular, but not bad. With experiences with the other location, I was not expecting excellent. The prices are very fair here, our meal for 4 averaging out to about $15 each person with a drink. I don't know if I would return, since there are many other restaurants around that I'd prefer, but I'm glad I got to try it out.
Came here a while ago for dinner, and waited 15 minutes for someone to take our order. The restaurant was about 1/4 full at the time.
Ordered the shrimp and crab melt. My friend ordered a sandwich with fries. In 30 minutes her sandwich with fries comes. she eats it finish.. and i nibble at her fries. Once she was completely done I received my meal, which was totally black on one side.
I waved down a waitress and complained. The manager came out and gave me a new one (eventually), which was tasteless but at least not burned.
Service was almost non-existant. Would not come back here again.
Food: They had these wonderful tex mex rolls but then the jalepeno dip was awful - kind of soupy. The steak was well-cooked but bland, the chicken was average and the wings were pretty good. Everytime we found a food item we liked, it would be offset with something that was really sub-par.
Service: We had a large party on a Sat night and since waiting for Joey's was too long, we decided to give this place a try. The manager was amazing and was able to seat all of us in a short period of time in the lounge area and that was def. 5 star but then it just started to go downhill. We constantly had different servers or no servers at all - we ended up having to search for anyone just to order food/drinks, etc. Food then started to arrive really late and drinks were disappearing from the tables when we weren't done with them. If only they could have kept up the great service...
Ambiance: Just a typical restaurant - nothing special. The lounge area was very plain and maybe we would have had a better dining experience had we eaten inside the dining area. I'd come here with friends for a drink or casual meal but I wouldn't bring a date unless it was completely casual. The location on Kingsway has much more scandalous waitresses (i.e. shorter skirts, more revealing clothing, etc) but I didn't find it was a problem at this location.
Overall: Probably won't be making the trek all the way out to Coquitlam just to come to this restaurant again unless I had a large party and had nowhere else to cater to us on a Sat. night.
My wife and I decided to give Sammys a try since it had been a few years. I'm not sure if it was just a bad night to go or its always that bad. We were seated quickly which was what we took as a good sign, on the way to the table we noticed it was pretty dead (two other tables). We also noticed how extremely uncomfortable the servers dress code made us feel, the tiny dresses were more than revealing and trashy. The drinks came to our table quickly but it went downhill from there. The music was comparable to that of a rave party and made us feel like club kids. It was in the irritating, loud and if we hadn't already ordered we would have left. We noticed they had also renovated and changed the menu and my wife and i agreed they seemed like they were attempting to be like Joeys in burnaby. Despite my food being quite tasty my wife's food was bland and it took forever for us to get it. The service was extremely slow and my wife's drink had not been refilled nor had mine. It was quite dead in there and there was absolutely no excuse for the poor service. After about 30 minutes of waiting I had to stand to wave down my waitress andaskills for a bill. No tip was given. We will absolutely not be returning. If I want an expensive meal I'll get it at Joe's where my server will be attentive and my food guaranteed to taste good.
My girl and I were looking for some place "out of the box" to eat the other night and found Sammy online. We wanted somewhere out of the way thought we would give it a try - I'm VERY glad we did! The outside of the restaurant is cute but does not begin to represent the service or quality of food in the least bit.
We both decided to have the wine and Mexican wraps; they were nothing short of fantastic! Also, our female server and the hostess were very friendly and provided great atmosphere. Love living in BC where the ladies look so chic, confident and GORGEOUS blonde.
I would recommend this restaurant to anybody and we will definitely be back next time we have a date with dinner!!
I dont usually go on these boards to boast about my dining experiences but this time I have too..
Haven't been to the Sammys in Coquitlam for a long time, but with the wife at Ikea shopping I was in the mood for a beer so I heaaded over to Sammys. I ordered the steak bites as an appy (was perfect, not too salty nor well done) and as for my meal I chose the Stuffed Pork Chop . OMG it was amazing and the sauce was too die for. I didnt think Sammys made this kind of food. I looked over their menu after dinner and was amazed by the different items. Way to go Sammys your menu rocks, you got me I ll be back for your KUNG PAO..
So we decided to head out to the Sammy J 's in Burnaby for UFC on Saturday nite and was in shock that they were closed. This was our ususal UFC spot. Good food specials and a great atmosphere.. We had a gift card that we wanted to use so we made a trek out to the Coquitlam location. Nice location.. I like the way the lounge is seperated from the restautrant. We ended up sitting in the lounge of course to watch the fights.. So lets go over the night.. Food - was great, you gotta try the twisted tails and their steak bites and as a main course Jays Smoothered Chicken was grrrrrreat. (Juicy and tasty) Service - Olivia was our server and she was good. We never had an empty glass nor ever neglected ( I like that in a server) Atmosphere - full lounge, nice buzz, alot of friendly customers. The whole experience was good. Also noticed the GM from Burnaby was working their and he recognized us .. That was cool he remembered us..Props to you and thanks you for the shots... Our friends have decided this was our new UFC spot ... Reminder to anyone who checks this place out on a UFC, they do get very packed in the lounge...
Great drinks menu (larger than I had thought for some reason) and delicious food makes this place one of the best in the area to grab a gourmet bite to eat. But it is the waitstaff ladies that grab my attention. Those legs.. mmmm yummy oh the food is what I mean. It is in fact good and cheap and the service is good. have the Cajun (I think - it's been a week) cheeseburger and started with prawns. Wine mark-up was acceptable here as well.
i went here with my boss for lunch one day; our first (and now last) time ever stepping into a sammy j peppers restaurant. the waitresses were obviously hired based on looks and how much skin they can possibly show...basically the whole experience started out with a group of waitresses and hostesses having an in-depth conversation with each other at the front desk and then finally acknowledging that you were there to get a seat and have lunch. you basically have to cover your eyes when they're wiping tables or you might be scarred. the food had no flavor at all and was extremely overpriced. not going back.
the servers are beautiful, perhaps in an attempt to distract one from the terrible food in front of them. Have been there three times (not by choice), ordered a rice bowl (bland- and cold) and a pasta (sauce was chunky and still v. bland). Not impressed. It seems like the kitchen employees only excel in nachos, as those were decent- but when have nachos and cheese ever been bad? Drinks selection is large and drinks are tasty. If your looking for good food, look elsewhere.
Bluntly speaking Sammy's popularity has always relied quite heavily on the parade of lovely young females that doubled as waitresses, in years past I also found the food to be decent and enjoyable. Get the guys from work together, grab a few beers, have a meal and oggle the waitresses. No apologies. In a nutshell that is Sammy J's. However the last few times the food has gone downhill (even the nachos are now garbage) and the service has become atrocious. Our waitress was clearly more worried about getting her Junior Paris Hilton patch than actually serving us with any manner of competence. When she refilled our soft drinks she mixed up the cups!! Being a waitress was obviously getting in the way of her main occupation which is being fabulous.
Sammy's get your act together!
Is it me and my friends, or are servers encouraged more and more these days to be as scantily clad as possible? There were girls that looked like they should still be in middle/high school there in LINGERIE working there. It was so uncomfortable cuz we litterally felt like older than we are, looking at kiddie porn or something.
The food wasn't bad and was served in a timely manner. However, when our cake came out (I brought it there for a surprise for my best friend's bday) one side of it was damaged due to their poor handling of the cake that was in perfect condition when I first brought it to the restaurant earlier. That was a big disappointment, considering it's a customer's property, so it should be handled with care, not sloppily as if it was your dirty laundry. I was not impressed, and neither were the rest of my friends. I don't think I'll go back there. It's just too uncomfortable seeing 16 year-olds wearing lingerie as their uniforms being hit on by guys who can be their fathers. That's just nasty.
First off, Sammy J. Peppers is known more for their scantily-clad waitresses than for its food. I have been dragged to this place a few times. It is unfortunate as their are much better options. The food at SJP is average at best. The burgers I have had there are not exactly the best, especially for the money I pay for. You are better off eating fast food. This place was rip-off as I was hungry a couple hours later. I expect to be full if I spend 20 dollars. The proportions weren't exactly big compared to other bar and grills. The service was absolutely brutal. Yes, the waitresses are attractive, but they are more concerned about their looks and being 'hot' than with serving the customer. On a few occasions, it took us awhile to get service. For the most part, the waitresses were unapproachable and sometimes even stuck-up. The atmosphere was ok, but I was too disappointed to really care what the atmosphere was like. So, in short, Sammy J. Peppers is an average bar and grill at best. I would take it one step further and call it sub-par. There are definitely better bar and grills out there. The pretty waitresses there cannot mask the below-average to average food there. After all, it's really about food, unless you like ogling girls, but that's another story for another time.
The hosts and waitors and waitresses were really friendly and the food was delicious! I was only in the area for a few days, but the resturant was one of the best highlights of the trip! I wish they had a branch were I live! the nachos were really good and so were the frys. I'm going there again as soon as I can!
