Pho Hoa restaurants feature naturally flavored, low-calorie soups with the choicest slices of brisket, flank, eye round steak. Each bowl of soup is accompanied with fresh coriander leaves, bean sprouts, hot peppers, and lemon wedges.
Went to the 2 other Pho places ina a 1 block radius, both had lineups and this Pho Hoa was 3/4 empty so in we went... The business of the others and the lack there of in this place should've told us something.
Waited for minutes to get seated even though it was not busy at all.
She immediately asked for the order.
I ordered a summer roll to start, which was to have shrimp, juliene pork, lettuce and vermicelli. I also ordered a pho with steak and beef balls, and an iced vietnamese coffee. My wife ordered a regular pho tai (steak).
The summer roll and soup came out at almost exactly the same time, which is typical of most vietnamese restaurants. We never saw a server again. We were given and billed for 2 rolls even though we only ordered 1. The summer roll was missing the pork, the soup was passable, and my iced coffee never arrived.
I went up to the counter to pay the bill and the menu was out on the counter. I said to our "server" that my summer roll was supposed to have pork in it, and she replied that they only come with shrimp. I point on the menu that it clearly indicated pork, she still insisted that they changed it, and I asked why it's not on the menu, then she said "no pork today". I also mentioned that we only ordered 1 roll, and she just shrugged her shoulders. I also pointed outon the bill that I never received my iced vietnamese coffee. She said, "oh I'll go make it now" which was totally pointless as we were at the counter ready to pay. These drip coffees take a lot of time to perkolate, it's not something that can be made instant! She reluctantly took it off the bill, then barked at me what the total was.
For the first time I can remember, I did not leave a tip, and I tip very well.
I will NOT be returning, there are other Pho restaurants that are FAr superior in quality and service. Don't BOTHER!
We're regulars here. I used to have pho but I've discovered this grilled chicken, spring roll, vermicelli noodle bowl thing with that fish saucy stuff. Love it! The chicken is so flavourful, the spring roll is crisp, there are lots of veggies in it and the fish sauce gives it a nice kick. My dinner date had a large bowl of pho. The bowl was rediculously large! It was also hot and tasty! Service was surprising good and food arrived fast.
I would classify Pho Hoa as the Mcdonald's of pho restaurants. The food comes pretty quickly, I'll give them that. It wouldn't be too bad if you never had pho before and wanted to try it. However, that being said....saying that Pho Hoa makes a good bowl a pho is like saying that Mcdonald's make a great hamburger.
It is fairly pricey at this restaurant for a bowl. Something around $8 after tax and tip?? The plastic bowls are large enough, they certainly give you lots of broth, but little noodles and almost no meat. My wife ordered the rare steak and beef balls there one time and she got a few slices of steak, which were fully cooked by the time it came out and 2 pieces of beef balls. 2 pieces amounts to 1/2 of one beef ball. Are you kidding me??? On top of that, she asked where the cilantro was in the soup? The bewildered waitress told her that they don't put cilantro in their soup...so my wife showed her on the menu that there was cilantro in the soup. The waitress then told her that they ran out. Nice.
Once good or bad thing about this place, depending on how you look at it. When they bring you your food, they also bring you the bill. I tend to like this, as I don't want to wait for the server to come back with the bill if I'm in hurray to leave. And after eating here a few times...I'm in a hurrary to leave and have never been back to this or any Pho Hoa location.
this place is just another pho restaurant you've seen. there's nothing new or special about it. good thing about this place is that they don't keep you waiting until you're sitted because well the restaurant is fairly large.
Service is your usual pho place. A nice friendly hi and then sit you down right away, tea comes just after you've finished taken off your jacket.
The soup taste good and hot unlike some places only warm. From the moment you finished ordering to you getting your food, this place is the quickest i've ever experienced.
One thing i don't like about this place is their rice dishes. They are not as good as some other pho place.
If you love good Pho, this is an awesome place. The soup and plates are wonderful, the people are friendly, and the atmosphere is nice. We go here all the time, for birthdays, with friends or just for fun. The food is also very low priced, much healthier and much more filling than food in many other restaurants.
We ate here several times and have always had great service and consistent soups especially # 18 which has everything in it. They give you a nice pot of tea right away when you are seated, napkins and chopsticks are at the table so you never have to ask for it. Also like the nice touch of quail eggs for another buck or two to be added to your soup if you wish. Yum.
