Pasta Polo offers Italian and Mediterranean classics in a relaxed atmosphere.
We used to frequent Pasta Polo all the time when we lived in Coquitlam. Yesterday we were detained in Coquitlam so rather than fighting the rush hour traffic we decided to go to Pasta Polo for dinner.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The food was as good as remembered. I had the osso buco with linguine carbonara substituted for the pasta that came with for it. I love their carbonara sauce. It's one of the best. Hubby had half a chicken with Caesar salad and the pasta.
Service was decent. Nothing to get to excited about but they were pleasant and took care of us in a timely manner.
We would definitely return.
Normally when I have an experience as bad as I did at Pasta Polo, I won't bother to write a review, but I feel compelled to speak out given the obviously phony review which precedes this one.
I went to this place with some friends a while back, and it was a terrible experience! The place was packed full, and we waited 1/2 hour for a table. Finally we got one, and ordered our pasta. Our food arrived a little at a time over the next hour resulting in some of my party having finished their meals before others even got their appetizers. At least they could have brought some bread or something! Worse still, one of the entrees was burnt (not a good thing for pasta).
I complained to the manager, and he blew me off with a rude comment I won't type here. To add insult to injury, they overcharged us for items we didn't order. I guess if they know you you get better treatment, but they won't have the opportunity to see me again.
Stay away form this place if you value your dignity!
For $2.25, you get bottomless homebrewed iced tea with a wedge/slice of lemon. A perfect blend of flavours and perfectly sweetened. Have yet to find another establishment that provides iced tea that's as perfectly made as either of the Pasta Polo locations.
Service is always friendly. Always welcoming and very casual. This location is larger, brighter, and can more easily, and comfortably, accommodate larger parties than their Langley location though the ambiance is classier and cozier in Langley.
The pastas are flavourful and their sandwiches are delicious. The fritto misto (deep fried pasta rings) appetizer is a must (though the salsa doesn't go very well with it--a cream cheese or other softer/smoother dip would go better)! Inexpensive especially if you have an entertainment book coupon, but still good even without! The desserts are freshly made and heavenly.
A definite favourite and always a pleasant dining experience! Parking & entrance at the back and underground parking available as well.
Went here with my boyfriend for a late lunch/early dinner at about 4pm. It was almost empty, except for one other table, it picked up a bit a little later into our meal.
I like the atmosphere and the mood of this place. It's clean and relaxing, nice decorations. We were greeted as soon as we got in and was settled at a booth. The service was nice and the waiter came back to ask about our food and refilled our water without asking. Unfortunately we couldn't order from the lunch menu (it stops at 4, right when we were about to place our orders) so we chose from the dinner menu. We just got entrees, no appetizers or desserts.
I forgot what my boyfriend had..something with chicken on pasta. I had the eggplant one on pasta. It was okay, I liked the cheese topping on the eggplant a lot, but the actual eggplant kind of left an odd bitter taste in my mouth. The actual pasta was decent, but the tomato sauce that they used was kind of sour for me but still edible.
Overall, the value was okay and they give you a decent portioned meal. But I wouldn't come back for their pasta, it was only okay and plus I live in East Vancouver. My current favourite pasta joint would be the Well on Main (next to Bo Kong), fabulous food and decent prices.
I have frequented this establishment on two occasions and on both the food was good but not outstanding. The portions were average as was the price. The service and ambiance were average. All in all not a bad restaurant.
I went to Pasta Polo with a girlfriend on our way to Coquitlam Center for some shopping. We both work days so we stopped by for dinner on a weekday night.
The first impression of Pasta Polo was that the staff aren't service orientated. We stood at the front podium for five minutes (while two waiters were standing two meters away from us entering their bills) before being greeted and brought to our seats. I'm sorry - when customers walk into an establishment and you're the first person they see, you greet them with a smile, eye contact and a hello. Not a mumbled "the hostess will be with you in a minute" after I've been standing there for five minutes staring at you.
The same waiter came to take our order promptly after we'd been seated by the hostess. However, the food didn't arrive until quite a while later, and the complimentary "appetizer" of cold bread and cold salsa came when the food came.
I ordered the shrimp and scallop rose pasta, while my companion ordered the veal picata served with pesto pasta. The sauces were bland and I had a total of 4 shrimpa and 4 scallops in my dish. The pesto needed more basil and more cheese - my friend had allergies and so she opted for a "nut free" version of the pesto. To be honest, her pasta looked slightly anemic as there was barely any pesto mixed into the pasta.
The portions were small for the price.
When we finished our main entrees, our waiter seemed to have disappeared.
Finally he showed up to refill our water glasses and was about to walk away, had we not ordered desserts.
The tiramisu was really good. Light, flavourful, no off flavours. The banoki pie was so-so. The crust was too heavy for the dessert.
We had to find our waiter again after finishing dessert.
In all, ~$50 for two people for sub-par service and sub-par food just did not cut it. We'd enjoy ourselves more at Anton's, Rosa's, or Anduccis for a smaller price tag.
Have gone here twice. Both times this year and with Hargow and my younger son.
First time had calamari (a miss), mussels (outstanding, fresh and tasty) and grilled veggies (done to perfection) and shared a pasta (very tasty). Son had his own pasta dish. Service was excellent. Shared some ice cream for dessert with a very yummy fruit sauce.
Second time was just a few weeks ago and this time service was disjointed. Not sure if they just had a bad night. It was early in the week and the first time we went was on a Saturday night. Server for some strange reason did not remove used bread bowl but left till the end of the meal. Was served by two different people as well. Some training would be in order for the server, she might have been just green.
Pastas are very good here. You get a good sized portion. Not humoungous but more importantly well seasoned, balanced and tasty.
Good place for pasta especially because it is organic.
I went here about 2 months ago for a birthday party.
Ordered the itlalian flatbread to start, not knowing that they gave free bread as their own appetizer. Literally, the only difference between the $8 italian flatbread and the free bread was the italian had cheap cheese, cheap olives, and tomatoes sprinkled on it. Not very good at all.
Ordered the pesto pasta. I asked for the pasta with chicken. The pasta came out with a skewer of chicken on the side. I had to ask the waitress to cut the skewer into pieces so I could spread it in the pasta. No big deal.
The flavor of the food was non-existant. Completely non-existant actually. I am a huge pesto pasta fan, and this is by far, one of the worst pesto pasta I have ever had.
I would definitely not come here for pasta if I had the choice again.
Good food, fair prices and great to see a restaurant in the suburbs that isn't a chain/franchise and that serves organic pasta. Now if only they'd only serve free range chicken they'd get 5 stars from me.
I went for lunch at 1pm on Fri., there was no problem finding table. I've ordered one from their lunch menu: shrimp linguine in pesto sauce, $8.99.
The service was quick and efficient. It didn't take long to have my dish....but it wasn't hot for some reasons. Maybe they premade those lunch menu in bulk, it was why it came so quick? Shrimps were mini shimps maybe from frozen or can. Pesto sauce seemed to be made from scratch, but it was bland. Not enough garlic, cheese and pine seeds. Because it was only $8.99, and used an Entertainment coupon, I didn't say anything, but if I go there for dinner (nearly $15), I'd definitely send it back.
It was another dissapointing Italian restaurant, I don't think I'll be back.
Took my family for dinner and the service was slow and the place was very loud. I could accept that but part way thru dinner my daughter noticed a fruit fly in the chili pepper jar that I just had sprayed over my food. I called the manager to tell him and instead of at least apologizing he basically told us we were lying as we are trying to point out the fly in the jar. He grabbed jar and no response ever. WORST CUSTOMER service ever. Even the poor waitress had to tell me how embarassed they are of the owners. ZERO respect or care for their customers. Will never go again and encourage all others not to go and tell your friends about how poor this place is. This place should NOT be serving food or be in business. Go to Anton's or Anduccis. Much better food and way better service
Great place, good service and the food was excellent - 2 of our party had pasta and 1 the thin crust pizza - everyone raved about the taste. We will definitely be going back - great value - this was a lunch so items ordered from the luncheon menu. Can't understand others complaints - maybe another change in the kitchen.
We went to Pasta Polo after it was recommended by a friend. The service was ok, but the food was horrible. For a place with 'pasta' in the name I expected pretty decent pasta. Instead I got something that tasted like it was store bought and had been sitting out for the entire day - I ate about 6 bites and sent it back (I've NEVER done that anywhere else before). I've tasted homemade pasta before and this was NOT it. My son loved his macaroni - but when I tasted it it also tasted old. The bread was stale, we took one bite and stopped eating. My husband ordered salmon which was completely overcooked.
This was definitely the worst meal that I've had out in years.
Sorry Pasta Polo, I hate to post negative feedback. I really hope you read these and take note. I think if you reduce your menu to a normal number of dishes and concentrate on making those good you'll do much better.
I used to go to this restaurant every 2 weeks or so. My last time was a month ago that's when i decided never again.
At first I wasn't accustom to horrible service but I let it stand because the food was better then most pasta places. I would often have they're chicken provolone, nice mixture of both red and white sauces when you order it with the fettuccini alfredo with mushrooms.
Once I discovered at some other local seafood/italian restaurants my new found love for seafood I went back to the ol' polo for a dinner. They're seafood pasta primavera was my next task.
As usual, horrible service. My wine was fine but having it been a hot day my water was finished and after walking by 5 times within a foot of my table i had to tug on the waiters arm to get some more. The meal arrived after being given they're bread(which turned out to be the best part) barely room temp. The shrimp was fine if you like it way over cooked and barely chewable. The salmon had a grey tinge and appeared to be glued together not flaking apart at all. To my understanding that's a bad sign.
Been back twice since the seafood incident and realized they either lost they're touch or changed they're chef because even a simple dish like the provolone is now disgusting like the service.
For the price you do get a large plate of something.
Been here a couple of times. Food is ok. Always get the carbonara... not authentic, but really tasty anyway. Service is polite. Decor is meek. Not a bad place to go to eat... not for a nice night out though.
As per usual, I was thoroughly disappointed with Pasta Polo's slow service. And to boot, they had a pot on the ledge behind my son's head to catch dripping water (in the booth area), as well as a bucket on the floor full of water from a ceiling leak. When we complained about moving the bucket behind my son's head, all we got was a "This is what happens after it rains." Well then if it happens when it rains, and we live in the area we do, then get the damn roof fixed so IT DOESN'T!
The bucket on the floor was knocked over by a little girl. Water spilled all over and the waitress that was first to see it didn't rush to get a mop or towels or anything...no she ran accross the room to get the busser to clean it up! There were no signs to warn guests that there was a bucket in the pathway either. I dunno..isn't that a hazard?
We went here on Mothers Day so understandably they were a bit busy. I ordered the gnocchi and sent it back because it was hard and rubbery. they brought it back and it tasted exactly the same. I then told them I would like the linguine which is what my husband ordered and seemed O.K. however I just wanted the tomatoe sauce not the meat. They brought it to me, after my family had finished eating so I had to eat alone. We were very nice about it as felt sorry for the waitress, they howerver were not apologetic about it at all. Then on the bill they charged me for it, I said I had the linguine which was cheaper and she said sorry the manager said I should pay for the gnocchi which was about 4.00 more. Also we ordered a piece of cheesecake and they charged us for a whole cheesecake 55.00! We won't be going back again. Try Anducci's next time, it is much better. ( accross the street )
We have been going to Pasta Polo for as long as they have been open at least once per month if not more often. I have never had bad service or bad food. It is always exceptional and the owner is polite, friendly and now recognizes us and does give us a bit special treatment, but we do go there very often.
My teenage girls like it here too and they are very picky!
This place is mediocre at best. There's always been an issue with someone's food when I've been about 4 or 5 times. The service is less than impressive. And, all of this for a nice, lengthy half-hour wait!!! What the...? This place claims to be family friendly, but I find other local pasta places (like the bigger chains) to be more accommodating and consistent for family outings.
My family dined at the restaurant on Saturday evening and found it to be a pleasant experience. The food was fresh, hot and came together.
I can only say that if anyone had a bad dining experience here, they must have mistaken it for another place. We will go back there again, soon.
I would be remiss if I didn't add that the service was excellent.
