O Sushi is a Japanese restaurant specializing in the preparation of sushi and sashimi dishes. We're located on Westwood Plateau in Coquitlam, BC, Canada near the junction of Johnson St and Parkway Blvd.
I have been a regular patron of O sushi for over 5 years and have never left displeased with my experience. I constantly tell all my friends about how good this place is, the sushi is delicious and fresh, there isn't a single roll I haven't enjoyed! Every friend I have taken there has agreed with me that it is hands down the best sushi in the lower mainland. Though I have 3 sushi places within walking distance of my house, I'd rather get in my car and drive up to westwood plateau. I'd reccomend this restaurant to anyone looking for the best sushi
I added this place to the profile as was not showing up. This place can be found among the shops in the Parkway area of Coquitlam just off Johnson going towards Westwood Plateau.
My wife and I eat here regulary as the quality of food, service and prices rock. They have great variety and nice boxes. Sushi is always fresh and we have never left unhappy in the 10 times we have bee here.
You won't be disapppointed. Lots of take out from here too.
If I only had the time, I would seriously come here everyday to just drink and chill in between my studies. And as I'm usually the kind who isn't fond of sticking to one type of cuisine for long periods of time, that's saying a lot. As one reviewer said earlier on, it's not so much the food but the people that work here who make every single second enjoyable and worth your time. Though of course, the food is definitely a good enough incentive to return!
Mr. Oh (the owner) will always make you feel welcome whenever you come in. The waitresses are also just as friendly and attentive, or even more since they don't quite have their hands full all the time. Nevertheless, as you visit more often, all of them soon treat you like family. Even though there's usually one waitress at a time, they'll serve you at a surprisingly quick speed. You'd think that with just about 5 tables in front and 2 rooms, this place would be quite small, but it's not. (There are sushi places in Quebec and downtown Vancouver where you can barely fit in 3 or 4 tables.) With a flat-screen TV, some bar stools just across from it, and a long reclining sofa, it's the perfect place to catch a sports game when you're hanging out with some friends over some drinks.
Probably the best thing about the menu which places this restaurant apart from others is that the owner is always willing to change the menu frequently to suit his customers' recommendations. Just out of the blue one day, you'll see new additions on a little chalkboard they have at the entrance such as takoyaki balls, or maybe a roll to represent a part of BC or the current season such as Canucks Roll or Special Summer Nigiri. A charming idea! If you asked me to recommend any specific dishes however, I could not. Every single dish here is equally delicious, in my opinion.
It's because of this and a couple other sushi restaurants in BC that I try to avoid eating much sushi anywhere outside of BC and Japan.
As for the value, the only reason why I'm giving it a 3 is NOT because the dishes are expensive, but because they deserve to be worth a lot more than what they're currently listed at. Seriously, for what I'm getting, they're a bargain! I do hope Mr. Oh does not see this review, otherwise he'd raise the prices. So go there now before he starts to charge more! :P
Living in the area, my fiance and I eat at O-Sushi all of the time. Not only is the service always good and very quick, the food is great!
I typically order a California Roll, Yam Roll, Sunamono Salad and miso and I absolutely love it! My fiance always has something different and it too is always up to par. The odd occasion you get something that isn't as good as last time, but O-Sushi always lives up to being a really great place to eat.
Plus, it's cheap!!!
Although the decor is not the greatest, the food and people make up for it.
Mr.O has a great selection of Maki rolls, sushi, wild and farmed salmon (I actually saw someone send wild salmon back and asked for farmed, sick!).
He will also mix and match his combos for you. If you have an idea for a roll just let him know and he may put it together for you or you may see it the next time you're in.
Best value, get the House Box. Delicious!
I have been going here for some time. It is unfortunate that the preceding reviewer had a bad experience. (And maybe good for those of us who go to this small Japanese Restaurant - lol)
This place has 2 booths (somewhat small - can probably accommodate 6 people max, each) and 6 tables. There is one flat screen Tv on the wall. We've caught parts of Canucks games during meals there. They used to have some kind of table top liner that always seemed sticky - glad they are gone. Mr. O is very welcoming and gives you a smile and a feeling that he recognizes you and are happy that you've chosen to revisit his establishment.
There is usually only 1 server on, and sometimes she has to deal with all the tables and the numerous take out orders this places receives. If you can be patient about that or keep it in mind, your experience will be good.
If you arrive at the standard meal times you might have to wait.
The food is good, the lunch/dinner boxes are reasonably priced, and Mr. O. and the servers are quite accommodating with my requests to change numerous things in the box. My wife likes the sushi there.
We've been there many times, and have only had one or two occasions where tempura batter has been soggy or the tempura sauce isn't made properly. (An apprentice in the back, perhaps?) but generally, the food is very consistent and very good!
It's almost scary telling people about this place because I actually feel quite selfish. It's a little diamond of a place run by Mr O and his consort of waitresses and sous chefs. The range of food is spectacular and the quality and price is simply stunning.
We eat here at least once per week, mostly take out, as the place is in a desperate need of a makeover. There are two booths and around five tables but the food is excellent, particularly the sashimi.
A few of my friends mentioned O Sushi, which is right by my house off parkway. I enjoy sushi more than your average, and was very disappointed. Sub-par sushi similar to some takeout sushi you could get at 7-11. The rolls and sushi was extrememly weak, boring, not fresh, bad texture. Not that cheap either, pretty weak decor but that doesnt matter too much.
Just another sushi joint that you walk out of feeling completely ripped off. I don't understand how these reviewers rated it so high. That is unless they run the restaurant. A shame as its super close to me.
so most of the reviews were positive and not sure how..I took a chance and went there 2nd time..the food was microwaved and the sushi was old and smelled...the tea was cold..and after i made a comment all they said was oh ok...sushi has to be fresh at all times...just horrible..
