This location of Greek Taverna is located on Brunette Avenue just off of Lougheed Highway. My Greek Taverna serves authentic home style Greek cuisine for dine in or take out.
Got here early on a Saturday night, just beat the rush. Line ups out the door half hour later.
I know why, the Food and Service is excellent. We sat down, servers came with water right away.
Took our orders, Lamb Souvlaki Beef Souvlaki, Calamari Red Wine. The servers are not fake or over friendly. Which is what a like. they just do a great job. Through out the meal they are quick to replace any used dishes and often topping up water. The calamari lightly battered with a nice crisp to it. I could not believe how tender the beef and lamb was. overall we had a great experience. The portions are huge.. I would love to see it even Bigger.. I am greedy! ..Highly recommended
I have tried their spankopita, lamb platter and chicken souvlaki. I recommend their food for the value and taste. If you enjoy Stepho's portions, this is your place.
Good takeout, open kitchen and it looks like they prepare the chicken on the grill for each other. Takeout is solid too.
Very popular for the area, so call ahead if you're with a large group.
We decided to celebrate my brother's birthday dinner here today after reading these reviews. We were all very impressed by the quality and quantity of food together with the impeccable service. We all started off with calamari appetizers which were melt in your mouth freshness. The tzatziki was wonderful too. The plate could have been a dinner in itself. Three of us ordered roast lamb which, upon first bite, was startling in its flavour and freshness. There was no way I was going to get through all that food. Potatoes were perfect with a burst of lemon aftertaste, salad was good too. The kids plates were plentiful and the chicken brochette looked amazing as well. The waitress brought over a piece of cake with a candle and we all sang happy birthday. No one rushed us even though the restaurant was filling up. We can't wait to go back again and there's no need to ever return to Stepho's now.
With so may waana-be Greek restaurants and many of them being mediocre - it is NICE to come across one that surprises with quality & quantity.
While decor is somewhat "tacky" the food and service are not. We shared a Calamari appetizer (very generous & yummy) and split a roast lamb dinner. This was plenty for my wife and I.
This place is MUCH better than Kefi and should be considered a must-dine when the moods strikes.
Opa - we'll be back!
Fantastic food! I eat here at least once a month. Tasty tasty tasty! Excellent value, huge portions, don't change anything! You can substitute for fries if you'd like, big glass of pop, everything I've tried has been incredibly flavourful. Can't say enough about the food and the value.
Service is pretty bad though. Depends who you get. The lady that owns the place (I think her father is the owner) with dark hair is very nice. The really really tall blonde waitress is incredibly rude, condescending and ill-mannered. Most of the waitresses don't care and I guess must be overworked because they are really impolite and bitchy.
The place is really loud, which doesn't bother me. Overall it's FANTASTIC food and I will come here always if it stays like this. Can't say enough about the food.
I went for dinner this weekend with group of friends wanting to dine in the BBY/ COQ. area. I saw the reviews for this place and was curious. We tried a Greek restaurant on Lougheed and North Rd but found the food there was bland (although very good ambiance). However, we were blown away by this place. It was very busy and as we were waiting for a table I saw most people leaving with leftovers. Then I looked and saw what gigantic portions they served. Service was great and attentive. This place reminds me of the busy Greek restaurant downtown on Davie but even better. Everyone in our group gave this place a thumbs up. Unless you have dinner reservations (especially Fri + Sat) be prepared to wait...but its worth it.
The food is very good, but not great. Excellent portions all around.
Tried the calamari and chicken and beef souvlaki plate.
Calamari was crispy, tasty.
Souvlaki was tender and tasty. Better than average for sure.
Rice and greek salad were okay. Nothing special.
Potatoes were tasty but I prefer crispy outer shell not soft.
The place was sooo loud. It was full and busy.
If you want a pleasant conversation forget it. We had to talk pretty loud to be heard at our table of four.
Finally, it was too dark. Minimal lighting in this place made it difficult to see. I wouldn't call it romantic either. The candle on the table made little difference.
Service was quick, friendly and efficient even with a full house.
Excellent value for better than average Greek food.
My boyfriend and I tried My Greek Taverna for the first time last night. We were a little put off by the exterior, which looks pretty run-down, but it was quite nice inside. We were seated right away, and were told our waitress had just gotten a big table so she might be a few minutes, but she was there right away. I had the chicken souvlaki, my boyfriend had lamb souvlaki (both come with greek salad, a potato, tzatziki, and rice,) and we had pitas and hummous. It came to $35 before tip, and we got tons of food for the price. The meat was fantastic, and I liked the tzatziki. My boyfriend is a picky eater, so he wouldn't try the souvlaki, and didn't like the hummous, but he loved the pita and the rice. I wasn't a big fan of the rice, but I like the potato (very flavourful.) The greek salad was a big disappointment. The feta (if it was even feta) was flavourless and bland, and there was only one teeny tiny olive per plate, so it was pretty much cucumber and tomato with a hint of red onion. I love a good greek salad, but it's just not the same without olives and feta! My boyfriend mentioned that the plates could have been larger, since the huge portion sizes hardly fit on the plate, but I didn't really notice that. The portions were huge, and neither of us cleared our plate. I wanted to try the ek mek, but I was too full, so I have to wait until next time. Our waitress was a little bit busy with her big table, which I didn't mind (I'd rather not have someone hovering too much while I eat,) but my boyfriend was a bit irritated at how long it took for her to come by our table when we were done, and then to bring the check. I had to ask for our leftovers to be wrapped up to go even though there was a lot left, and she didn't wrap up our leftover pita, which I was disappointed about - it was a very tasty pita.
We will definitely be going back for the meat, the hummous, and the pita (and to try the ek mek,) and I would definitely recommend it, as long as you aren't looking for greek salad or 5-star service.
We dined here last weekend and I was very surprised at the incredible value you get in terms of food quality & size. When we arrived at 6:30, it was jammed pack with a linup, luckily, we had a reservation so we got our table after few minutes of waiting. Our server immediately ask us for drinks & she came back in 10 mins thereafter. Ordered our meals and was pleasantly surprised to see our first dish (appetizer) of Calamari arriving shortly...it was very delicous & non-greasy feel like other reviewers mentioned. For our main course, we had two orders of roast lamb, greek ribs, and chicken souvlaki. Everything came out big portions and yummy....we especially like the rice & pita breads! Of course, we had to pack it up for next day's lunch...:) For dessert, we tried two of them...the EK MEK & Brogasta (sp?) Hands down on the EK MEK, it was to die for!!!! I have to comment on the exceptional service we experienced - from constant water refills, asking ask "...how's everything" to even providing a status update that our dessert will take a few more minutes. WOW! Will not hesitate to come for another future visit, highly recommended.
Definitely the tastiest lamb souvlaki in town..and at a really good value..lunch souvlaki platters are around 10-12$ and are HUGE...watch out if you're on a carb diet, the rice and potato servings are way too big, but goodness it tastes so good.
My friends/family had trouble getting reservations a few times--the restaurant said they couldn't accomodate our group of 20, which is odd since i've had a dinner party there where we were over 20 people.
in any case, i think it is a great bet for greek food, with a nice 'taverna' ambience, decent dine-in service, and to my opinion, better greek food than Stefos on Davie
Great food for a very respectable price!
Service is usually very good. Sometimes there can be a line up if you arrive late at the usual meal times.
Parking out front has only a few stalls, but there is usually plenty of parking in the back (down the stairs).
My family and I have been there many many times, and the food is consistent. Sure there have been one or two times that the rice was slightly different, but generally, you know what you are going to get when you order - no surprises. Portions are huge!! There is usually enough for a meal the next day.
Como on people I’ve been coming to My Greek from the day it opened, which by the way was 7 years ago so it’s hard to believe someone has been coming here for 10 years and it also took that long to write a review, however I must agree the food is great and so as the service. I actually dine at MG 5 to 6 times a week and also bring my business partners many times, NEVER HAD A PROBLEM, as you can imagine I became to know the stuff as well as the owners quite well. It is an extremely busy place most of the time, and as I now learned the very few regular long term stuff members who are able to handle this place are responsible for far more than just serving tables, so little mishaps are always forgiven. Back to food, I am a meat lover but no lamb 4 me, my most favourite are the Greek ribs and they are to die for, second option would be a stake and let me tell u it can beat a Keg anytime, chicken Skaras is mouthwatering even the lasagna is a big hit and let’s not forget the saganaki made with real Kefalograviera (unlike Stepho’s downtown, eeuuu & I know my greek foods )....For those who think they make a better salad at home and don’t even know the name of THE ”CHEESE” u should really STAY home and eat home!
Ps: there is quite a few blonds in there and they are all doing A GREAT JOB
As the restaurant's long time patrons for more than five years, we feel it is the best Greek restaurant in the region. We bring our family and friends and they all agree. We moved from Coquitlam to downtown Vancouver years ago, but still return when we are craving for Greek food. We've gotten to know the owners, and we've observed that they treat their clients with great respect and appreciation. WE LOVE MR GREEK, and for sure we'll always return.
This was my second visit to My Greek Taverna. The first visit was pretty much similar so I figured this warrants a review. First off, their food is really good - I like the generous portion, the rice, potato, greek salad, etc that comes with the entree dishes. I personally like lamb so I ordered roast lamb on both occasions - delicious! However, the service was slow on both occasions - the food comes out pretty fast but when you need your drinks refilled, it would take forever. During my most recent visit, I had to ask three times to two different waitresses for water and even then, it was forgotten. We waited for our bill to arrive, but decided we'd like to head out so we came to the front to pay... and the waitress called out a seemingly random number off the top of her head and punched it into the credit card machine. Very odd. Later we realized we overpaid by 20 cents or so, so it wasn't a big deal, but it just came off really unprofessional. The ambiance I think is pretty solid - seems like some reviews complain about it but it is better than that crammed Stepho's on Davie for sure.
This restaurant is a blessing for Coquitlam/Mallardville. I think most ppl tend to travel into the city for special dining occassions. Its really a treat to have a decent restaurant local for rainy days, business lunches, etc etc. I love the flavour, service, and value this place has to offer.
The decor is typical for your average greek taverna. The waitresses are very attractive and hospitable, and some nights they have live entertainment. Its a great place! Ample parking! Good food and great portions!
All this talk, I think I'll be there tonight =)
My wife and I eat at this restaurant a lot and really love the traditional Greek dishes like the roast lamb, souvlaki, calamari etc., but I was in the mood for a steak on our latest visit. I had the 8oz NY with lasagna. The steak was tender, juicy, cooked medium perfect, nicely seasoned, not a bit of sinue or gristle. As good as any steak I have had anywhere in the world, and I travel all over the world constantly. Recently I have been off steak which I love, but it seems nobody really knows how to cook it properly anymore (ie: Like Moishe's in Montreal which is the best). I really enjoyed this combo, and the Greek style lasagne is a departure from the common "red suace" Italian varietes. The secret inredient in Greek lasagne is cinnamon. We are hooked on this place. The food is excellent value for money and I don't have to drive more than 5 minutes to get there. Opaa!
I've been working in their neighborhood for the past year and didn't even know this place existed until my 2nd last day on the job!! Would definitely have went to this place sooner had I known earlier. This place is awesome for a quick lunch as it is not normally that busy. Service is fast and attentive. The portions are tremendous. I had the roast lamb while co-workers ordered lamb, chicken or beef souvlaki. We had calamari and prawns to start. The prawns were tasty albeit portions a bit small. The calamari was very juicy and well cooked. And yes, as another reviewer said, they used a lighter batter which maginified the flavours of the calamari even more.
My roast lamb was succulent and very tender. Tremendous portions as it would have been enough to feed me for both lunch and dinner (and I can stuff it quite a bit myself). For the $10.95 price, it's definitely a steal and an excellent alternative to those who rather not drive all the way to downtown for Greek. My co-workers enjoyed their dishes very much. We all agreed that we would be back here again within the near future. Overall, it was an awesome dining experience for the cost. Good job!! Do keep it up!!
When I first went to Mr. Greek I honestly didn't want to go in, you know how you're not suppose to judge a book by it's cover, well to be honest I judged the outside of the restaurant, but when I walked in I was impressed, it was quite large and I was impressed by how clean it was.
I use to live 5 min away from Mr. Greek and I swear that is all me, my mom, and my brother ate every Friday basically...we just picked up and ate at home.
I am most impressed with the amount of food you get for a low amount in price, there food is melt in your mouth awesome, especially the Roast Lamb. I never liked greek food before, and now I really enjoy it.
Mr. Greek has a great atmosphere, yes it gets busy and you may have to wait to be served but even then, you get your food quite quickly!
I totally recommend anyone who hasn't been to Mr. Greek to totally go....oh and if you like fried cheese, they are the only restaurant the offers a full Saganaki dinner, most places only have it as an appetizer...my friend got my addicted to the Saganaki, it's good....it's a must try....
For greek food this place is good, it should totally be checked out!!!
The food was a disapointment. I have had Greek food in a number of places throughout the lowermainland and will definitely NOT return to My Greek Taverna. I found my order of Chicken Souvalaki to be dry and tasteless. The rice was the same. The salad meagre. The only thing that was ok was the pita bread. Sorry folks, you are gonna have to do much better before you get any of my cash again!!!!!
As stated in the title "Probably the best Greek in Van" Although I always have the roast lamb which is fantastic. Huge portions. Always take home. The missus had calamari last time which was good too.
Went with a large party recently and everthing served looked good. Service is good but there can be long line-ups if you don't have a booking in the evening.
Oh yes, you can get a REAL PINT-handle here for less than $4
