This location of Greek Taverna is located on Brunette Avenue just off of Lougheed Highway. My Greek Taverna serves authentic home style Greek cuisine for dine in or take out.
Have driven by this place for years - nothing much from the outside. But a friend asked me to eat there, and I'll be forever grateful! I love a proper Greek meal, but generally speaking they tend to miss the mark, with flavourless rice or potatoes, etc. Not here.
First of all the souvlaki meals are a heck of a deal, at 11.95 for chicken or lamb, etc. Generous portions. Potatoes were amazing. Rice was perfectly cooked and very flavourful. Delicious Greek salad with a generous amount of feta. BIG chunks of chicken for the souvlaki. Rich and perfectly balanced tzatziki. Fabulous meal.
Fast service despite a very full/busy restaurant. Ambiance is nothing to write home about, but I'll take the food over the ambiance any day. I'll be back - a lot!
I have been eating there for the past 4 years and have never been disappointed. I travel from the North Shore just to have the roast of lamb. Can't say enough about the quality of food and reasonable prices. Staff are always friendly and accomadating. I would recommend this place to anyone.
This restaurant has great prices $10.95 for chicken or beef, or both, lamb or shrimp souvlaki. Huge portions, with lots of rice, potatoes, greek salad, pita bread, mmmm. It's a great alternative if you don't want to go all the way Downtown and stand in line at Stepho's but really it's just as good! Weekends do get busy so you may want to make a reservation in advance or go early so you aren't disappointed. I always have a nice leftover for lunch the next day! Overall outstanding food, service, value and portions.
Hubby and I took a Friday off to pick up stuff from Ikea. My sister introduced me to this place a few months ago and then hubby and I even had dinner here. We stopped off for lunch, ordering the calamari which was light, crispy and not greasy, and the chicken souvlaki was moist and flavourful. Their lunch portions are generous; I'd say almost bordering on dinner portions. Their potatoes have a very intense lemon flavour and the rice is very flavourful, almost as if it was cooked in stock. Their wine selection is so-so, however, the service staff is very friendly. Parking is very limited in the front but there's more in the back where you can take the stairs to the backdoor entrance. This is one of our spots to go to when we're out in the Coquitlam area.
Went there for lunch with my relatives a few days ago and had a good meal! Service was a little bit slow, but reasonable considering they had a large lunch crowd.
Food was plentiful and tasty! Atmosphere was a fairly open restaurant, comfortable atmosphere, but could get a little loud at times.
This is my husband's and my favourite Greek restaurant. The food is sooo good and the service is fast!!! I called in for my husband's 50th birthday party and they accommodated our party of 15. Love their roast lamb and their mousaka. The Tarama is also a must try. Totally recommend this place for any occasion.
Just had a wonderful time at this restaurant! Great food, great service and very reasonable prices. I read one of the reviews for the Greek Taverna, stating that the lamb was no good. Bull$#*% the lamb was delicious! The place was very busy on an early Friday night (always a good sign) I recommend that you reserve a table. The service was excellent even though the place was packed. I didn't received this good of service at the Boathouse, Port Moody and I paid more than twice as much for food that was half as good. I'll be going back again. Sincerely, Kevin.
Recommended - Nice, clean restaurant, excellent food, great ambiance, absolutely gorgeous.
Food - very delicious, always very fresh, big portions.
My favourite dish is chicken santorini and my husband's favorite dish is lamb souvlaki. Also, we highly recommend their kalamari.
Personally, I think that this is the best Greek restaurant - if not overall restaurant - in town.
In general, it is very hard for us to change our orders because of the incredible taste and quality of the fantastic dishes mentioned above. However, we have also tried the chicken souvlaki and roast lamb, which were also amazing. Honestly, there are no words to explain their taste because "great" or "delicious" is simply not enough.
Our children (who are all adults now) and all the friends we have brought with us to the restaurant all share the same opinion as we do.
I'm 100% sure that My Greek Taverna at Brunette Ave in Coquitlam is one of the best in town and, as a result, we recommend it for anyone who likes good, prepared food, and a clean and wonderful atmosphere.
Service - is always attentive, very friendly.
Ambiance and value - the prices seem very reasonable, especially considering the generous portions they provide. The place is beautiful decorated and makes you feel like you are in a restaurant in Thessalloniki or Athens. Best of all, it's much cheaper than a flight!
The food was great, it was my first experience with Greek food and it definitely made me want more. The service was good too, we barely had to wait and our server was courteous and pleasant. I wasn't the one paying for this dinner, so I can't really comment on the value, but I don't think it was too outrageous. The ambiance! This restaurant was beautifully decorated, when I walked in I didn't feel like I was in Mallairdville, I felt like I had stepped through the wardrobe and was now in tiny Greek world. All through the meal there was something interesting to look at and it was just very beautiful.
My gf and I came here tonight which was a Friday, so it was fairly busy at 7pm. After about a 15 minute wait, we were seated at a small table that was between two other couples. It felt like we were a little TOO close to the adjacent tables, it was a bit of a tight squeeze there. Could hear almost everything they were saying, I'd rather have a bit more privacy when I dine out with my lady. The restaurant was incredibly loud with conversation, which some people like (adds to ambience?). It was a bit too loud for my liking.
The host and waitress were very friendly and prompt, it seemed like all their waitresses were smiling and friendly actually. I ordered the lamb chops and my gf ordered the chicken souvlaki. The food came in about 10 minutes, pretty quick for such a busy dinner time. The portions looked pretty big, not bad for 12.95 and 15.95 respectively.
Unfortunately, I couldn't really enjoy my meal because my lamb chops were WAAAY too salty. I have greek food regularly, and this was by far the saltiest greek, actually ANY cuisine food I can remember eating. I kept having to drink my ice water to satiate my thirst. The huge potato was fairly tasty, but again, too salty. I had a piece of my gf's chicken, and it was too dry and salty for my liking (portions again, were generous).
Because of how salty my meal was, I was and still am thirsty all evening as I type this. Still, my experience could've just been an anomaly and I would try this restaurant again if I was invited by others, but it would not be my first choice.
I live in Vancouver but my family prefers to drive to Coquitlam to eat at our favorite Greek restaurant, My Greek Taverna. The food is absolutely delicious! Everything on the plate is wonderful. In particular we love the roast lamb, calamari and ek mek. The portions are large and the price is very affordable. We order keeping in mind the portion size and still manage to take home leftovers everytime. There is plenty of parking in the front and in the back. The restaurant is busy with patrons dining in and picking up takeout and we find its best if we get there for an early dinner. The service is great, very friendly and efficient servers. The restaurant is clean, the ambiance is nice and the washroom are large and clean. I would highly recommend My Greek Taverna, try it and you will return over and over again.
This is definatly my favorite greek resturant in the area. Great value, tons of great tasting food at a good value ! They give you your meat, potatos, rice, greek salad, and pita so there is no having to choose what you want you just get it all!! I would reccomend this place to anyone :)
I have always been a fan of greek food. I love love LOVE it! I was also born and raised in greece so that may be a given :) I've tried almost every greek restaurant in the tri cities and it is very hard to find anything that measures up to the real deal. I was told about my greek taverna by a few friends. I was quite excited to try it out. Unfortunately i was very disappointed. The food was mediocre and was lacking alot of flavour. It was easy to see that the food had been canadianized and therefor eliminated alot of the greek appeal and delicious traditional taste. The service was good but overall this would not be my first choice for authentic greek food.
There's a reason why there's almost always a wait to get into this restaurant. Quite simply, they offer the best value for the best Greek food in town. The portions are huge and delicious. The last few times we've been in there, we've ordered the platter for two which includes just about every Greek delicacy you can imagine. They leave nothing out. My husband and I can really pack it away but even we couldn't finish all that they gave us so we had lunch the next day. The calamari is particularly yummy.
The only thing I recommend is calling very early for reservations as they only accept a certain number of reservations on a Friday and Saturday night.
We went to My Greek once again on saturday night and once again had a great time.
We were seated by the window in the far corner, right under the speaker so I must agree it was a little on the loud side however the place is constantly very busy so really don't think there is much you can do about the noise. I ordered the roast lamb, my usual = absolutely delicious, my wife had a chicken and our guest chose the kalamari all the dishes were fantastic, the service was good our server and everyone else was very attentive (as much as it gets in the busy place like that). We will be back many many times :)
Restaurant was packed for a wednesday night dinner. however, we were seated promptly. service is good considering the busy atmosphere.
food was excellent. we ordered the kalamari appetizer and roast lamb dinner to share between 2 of us and we still had quite a bit left to take home. Roast lamb dinner was succulent and came with rice pilaf and very tasty roasted potatoes. Kalamari was remarkably well done but a little greasy at the bottom of the plate.
good greek food at a great value!
We have been eating here for about 10 years and the meals have always been great. We have tried many other Greek restaurants downtown and by far this is my top choice. Great food, price, portions very large.
Only draw back is one of the waitresses is very forget full and we seem to get her once in a while. She is blond and tall. But it all works out at the end.
Enjoy My Greek for yourselfs
Firstly, I've been here several times. Not once was I underimpressed by the flavour of the food (as a reviewer previously complained). The potatoes are delicious! The calamari are divine (not the overly battered salty ones Stepho's makes) and the souvlaki are melt in your mouth.
The decor is quite traditional taverna fare, which is quite nice. The service (on all but my last visit) has been excellent.
I just have a few quips (hence the 3* vs 4* on the food): they pile on the rice. Now don't get me wrong, every other thing on the plate is a huge portion too..but they pretty much give you a mountain of rice! Also, the cocktails leave something to be desired, their paralyzers leave something to be desired. Dessert is deliciuos!
This place is a gem. I eat here regularly and the food is constantly delicious and the portions generous. The staff are friendly and the restaurant is clean. $10.95 for Souvlaki and if you're not a big eater you're taking some home. It's very popular and reservations on Friday and Saturday are recommended. The calamari is the best around.
The first time we came to Mr.Greek for dinner, it was rather late in the evening, so the restaurant ran out of the calamari. Instead, we ordered the chicken and beef souvlaki dinner specials for $10.95 and a side of Keftedes. The chicken was very tender and tasty, and we had a heaping serving of rice and potatoes with it. The Keftedes were flavourfully seasoned, absolutely divine! We could not even finish half our meal! With drinks, appetizer and entree, the bill came to $30! Couple weeks later, we came back for the calamari, and it was definitely tasty and well worth it. The calamari appetizer portions were huge for $6.95, after the appetizer I was already full! What I like about the calamari is that it's not greasy, and it is a lighter batter of tender squid, cooked to perfection! May I say more...if you are in the Coquitlam area, Mr.Greek's is a better alternative than driving all the way to downtown Vancouver to Stephos, where you would line up for at least an hour to satiate yourself!
