This location of Greek Taverna is located on Brunette Avenue just off of Lougheed Highway. My Greek Taverna serves authentic home style Greek cuisine for dine in or take out.
Reservations were honoured on time. Service was pushy. Felt all night like they were just trying to get us out. But waitress was still nice. Lighting was sketchy and went up and down. Alcohol prices were reasonable.
Saganaki good but expensive at $10. Fried zucchini not that good. No free pop refills even for designated drivers - very poor policy. Spanakopita was ok but very minty. Prawns were very good and juicy. Lots of pita and tzatziki. Calamari was huge portion and chicken good. Got lots of rice and potatoes but both were flavourless. Ek mek was homemade but not to my taste - texture problem. All in all better than taverna greka but just a carb fest
Went here on a Sunday evening for dinner.. had the $15.95 roast lamb dinner special. You get a huge piece of lamb on your plate so make sure you are hungry! The salad and pita bread was really fresh too. Get there early or make a reservation as when we left there was a pretty big lineup.
First off, after reading these reviews, I did not find the food salty, the room dark, the service lacking =, the music loud nor the portions "massive". I guess it's perception.
We went on Thursday night around 6:30. The place was busy but there were still some empty table.s We got a nice window seat with sun. We noticed the meals coming TOO quickly after ordering so we waited and had a drink before ordering.
The meals we had were delicious. And, like most greek places came witih the puffy pita bread, a small thimble ot tsatziki, tons of cheap rice and potato. Not much different here. Spanikapita was flaky and good but not totally to my liking as it had a lot of mint in it. Mint should stay in toothpaste and not my dinner. However it was ok.
Drinks were pretty cheap and the wine prices were very good after being used to paying the ripoff prices at the Keg, joeys etc.
All in all a great meal and we will return when we are in the mood for a carb fest.
Been here twice for Greek food and it's always busy and packed. Expect a bit of a wait for your table, for your order to be taken and for the food to finally get there. The first time we came for a group party and while the food and portions were quite good, the service was sloppy and slow. Guess they weren't ready that night for such a big group. Our second visit was with family and food was still delicious and big portions. Service was still meh. A great neighborhood place with reasonable prices, but sometimes poor attitude from the servers and I didn't really like the uber dark lighting.
If you're in the neighborhood and hungry for some good grub, you have to give Mr. Greek a try. Warning, it does get busy on the weekends or either make reservations or go early. Huge portions for a fair price. Souvlaki is normally about $11 and I don't think anything on the menu is more than $16. One of my favorite Greek restaurants for sure.
We recently moved near the Maillardville area and a co-worker recommended My Greek Restaurant. This was our 2nd attempt at eating here, as they were oddly closed on a Saturday afternoon at 12 when we first tried.
As we entered we were promptly greeted by a server. She gave us a quick once over before asking how many of us there were. Very odd. She plunked down our menus and we had a seat.
The menu was the generic Greek fare. Moussaka, Souvlaki, Calamari, Roast Lamb, etc. Prices were reasonable for dinner, with the entree's averaging around $14.95 each.
Our waitress returned and asked us what we'd like. I was a little turned off that she crossed her arms and stared at us when we ordered. She seemed a little less friendly with us, but not other customers. Anyways, I ordered the Calamari Dinner, and my wife ordered the Roast Lamb.
While we waited, we found it hard to chat with the loud music in the background. As the restaurant got more full, we had to yell to each other over the noise. In addition to the very dark lighting, it wasn't the most pleasant ambiance.
When the food arrived we were pleasantly surprised at the large portions. The food was delicious. The calamari was crisp and lightly battered, and the sides were well done too. The roast lamb was very large and moist without being greasy. We were only able to get through about half our plates and had to take the rest home.
Again oddly our waitress never came back to check if everything was ok with the food. All the while, the music was getting louder and louder. To their credit, the other waitresses were much more friendly and helpful and continually topped up our water and checked in on us. Our waitress (Ivanka I think) was obviously the head waitress and for some unknown reason disliked us as she didn't behave the same to other patrons. She seemed a little more friendly when bringing us the bill, perhaps because it was tip time. We had another pleasant surprise when the bill arrived as my wife's Roast Lamb dinner was on special for the night for $12.95.
Pros: The food quality and the portions were excellent, and the price was very reasonable.
Cons: The poor attitude from the 1 server, the dark lighting, and the loud noise factor.
Overall we'll surely give them a try again. The food is definitely worth it!
This is by far one of the BEST Greek restaurants we've ever been to in the lower mainland.
My fiance and I had a glass of wine and a pint of beer, calamari to start and we both shared a roast lamb plate and their chicken souvlaki dinner - all for under $50.
Their calamari is lightly battered and very flavourful. The roast lamb was falling off the bone and came in a VERY generous portion. The chicken souvlaki was moist, well seasoned and extremely large in size. The sides were also very generous and delicious (big greek salad and lots of rice).
The service was amazing as well! Their waitresses were attentive, polite and friendly - pretty much everything you'd want from a restaurant.
This place will now be our "go to" place whenever we have a craving for Greek food! Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
First off, the restaurant is called My Greek tavern not Mr. Greek.
Me and the gang stopped here for dinner before hitting a movie at silver city, it's a handy spot for this and it's one of the main reasons we chose this place as well as the reviews here. I have to concur with other reviews that the roast lamb is great, a HUGE portion along with well prepared sides of potato, Greek salad and rice w/pita & taziki. It is waaaay better than Stephos on Davie and even slightly better than Sympaticos on 4th!!
The calamari appy was not over battered or greasy and the olive & feta appy was generous to the extreme. We ended up taking almost half the dish home! The roast lamb at $11.95 has to be one of the best values in town. I would definitely return, especially as a pre-movie spot as the service was quick and friendly.
This restaurant provides incredible value. I prefer this place to Stepho's. The fact that I don't have to endure a big line up is attractive. Also, the food is very good here. The service maybe somewhat lacking when it gets busy but that can happen in any restaurant.
I've enjoyed my meals here and would recommend this restaurant.
We have a young family and haven't been able to enjoy dinners out as much as we used to so order in/take out on special nites. One of my favs is Greek food. Unlucky for us, this is one of the only half decent Greek food places close by so are quite busy. The food is good, not fantastic, but good, the portions and prices are also good, not fantastic but good.
TAKE OUT SUCKS. They have no desire to cater to or expand their take out business. Your a second class customer and treated as such. Don't bother trying to order from them on Thursday Friday Saturday or Sunday, which are usually the nites you would want to treat yourself with take out. They are a busy location and couldn't be bothered to get the phone. They only have one line so you have to keep calling for at least 20 or more minutes straight. I've given up after 30 min of continuously trying before.
If your one of the lucky ones to get through, they immediately put you on hold or put the phone down and walk away. I was even told last weekend that they weren't accepting take out orders because they were to busy. How ridiculous, must be nice to be so busy that you don't care, turn down business and orders and leave money on the table. This after 20 min of trying to get through.
Tonite I thought I'd try again, it's a Tuesday nite so should be safe no? Was so excited to hear it ring and then Bam! a loud fax machine in my ear. Who would have the fax machine on the only # into the restaurant? I give up.
My only hope is that a Greek restaurant remotely good opens up within the area, given the crappy service at My Greek I'd be more than happy to take my business, and anyone else's I know, over to it.
We came here for the first time for dinner. We had chicken souvlaki and lamb chops. We were seated pretty quickly. (The chicken skewer was huge (8 oz)(dinner special $12.99) and covered the whole plate. There were 5 lamb chops and they were pretty tasty too. ($15.99) All dinners include tons of rice, potato, salad, bread. The presentation was good. Our server was very friendly and helpful, we didn't have to ask to get our water refilled. Next time we want to try the calamari, roast lamb and beef souvlaki!
I first came here when my friends took me here and it was still called Mr Greek. I've been here a few times after that, I usually order the roast lamb and maybe some humus to start. The food is pretty decent, nothing special and the service is pretty neutral. The ambiance is typical of a lot of greek restaurants.
Stephos is usually the place we go for good value Greek Food. But the drive out to downtown, finding parking, and the line-ups are definite deterents to making the trek. After reading some favorable reviews on this site I decided to give "My Greek Taverna" a go!
-service was FAST, we received our orders in under 10 minutes
-portions were large (definitely enough for lunch the next day)
-lamb souvlaki was tender, and the portion was generous
-there was a funky smell that my partner disliked emanating from the general dining area, he likened it to "a not-so-subtle hint of old folks' home"
-lack of options for vegetarians: the vegetarian platter consisted of salad, rice and pototoes . . . acceptable for a third world country's interpretation of "vegetarian" but kinda behind the times for health conscious lower mainlanders, oh wait, this is the burbs after all, but I digress ;)
-rice was greasy
-the cucumbers in the greek salad were soggy
-a dated 1970's ambiance, complete with cocktails named "Paralyzers" and "Welcome to Greece" paper placemats
-blue and green spotlights highlighted certain tables, potentially making diner's food take on an eerie glow
My partner, would not go back, I might get take out, maybe.
A buddy and I arrived close to closing time but the waitress assured us there is plenty of time and we can enjoy our meal in peace. The decor was typical of a Greek Restaurant, nice but not over done.
Order the roast lamb special and coffee, my buddy ordered the chicken souvlaki. Our food arrived with my first coffee refill. Now that’s speed! The roast lamb was lean; the meat (without bones) had that fresh oven aroma. Wow… the rice, Greek salad with plenty feta cheese and lamb were served all in large proportions on a great big plate.
Some pieta bread was thrown in and we tuck into the food. After we were satiated, I still had enough for lunch tomorrow. Best roast lamb I’ve had in a while. Definitely be back and highly recommended.
i've been going for about 6 years now. their dinner specials for $11 can't be beat. i always have the roast lamb, which is tender and cuts with a fork. rice is also excellent. service is always attentive, but can be a bit harry when it is busy, usually fridays and saturdays...line ups can be long, but worth the wait.
I used to live in Coquitlam, and frequent this place a few times. Since living in Vancouver, I haven't been back to this hood in ages.
I had the Roast Lamb ($11.95) and is absolutley delicious. Melt in your mouth tenderness. It came with ALOT of rice, half a roasted potato, large portion of Greek Salad, TONS of lamb and pita bread (a bit on the greasy side!). There was sooo much food that I have enough for my lunch tomorrow.
Service was OK. There was a table with about 10 guys so all the waitresses seemed to be serving them and forgetting the rest of the people in the restaurant. It was OK as it gave time for my friend and I to talk but when I needed more water, they weren't around! I felt bad for the people sitting around the guys, as they were very loud. Anytime I glanced up, no one was talking to anyone at the other tables because of the guys. We would have stayed for dessert but too noisy. They should have sat the guys in the bar area, as they would have had a private section and the other guests would have enjoyed their meals more.
We brought my mother-in-law to this restaurant because we wanted to show off this place...after searching for soooo long to find a good greek restaurant we finally found one. Every time we have been to this place the service has been awesome. They're quick, very friendly and our food has never taken very long. Even though every single time we've gone there it's been super packed and busy. In relation to other Greek restaurants we've been to, this place is priced well and the portion sizes are huge. I can never finish my plate.
This is the only greek restaurant I go to now. I've tried other places but they haven't been as good as My Greek. The kalamari is good and not greasy at all. The chicken souvlaki is cooked to perfection...always juicy and full of flavour. I rated the ambiance a 2 because I find that it's always so noisy in there and it's hard to have a conversation.
My family and I have dined at My Greek for many years and I have to say I have only been disappointed once and that was when they changed the recipe for the Kalimari. It is still good but not as good as three years ago. I also wish they would have a childrens menu as many families dine there. I look forward to our next meal very soon.
My Greek, (or Mr Greek as my family knows it from before they had a name change to avoid law suit) is the BEST Greek food I have had in my life! Everything is done to perfection, and you get A LOT for your buck! We always get the calamari & pita & hummus to start with, and it is always fantastic! The tzasiki is the best I've ever had, & my friend who used to work their said she saw them hand cut everything going into the tzasiki. I beg of you to try the rack of lamb.. sure it's the pricier on the menu, but it is TO DIE FOR!! SO PERFECT, I crave it all the time! (Maybe you shouldn't just to save yourself the addiction.. but DO IT!) & as for the service, I am always pleased. I know theirs like one waitress that isn't as pleasant as the others, and maybe previous reviewers happened to get her.. but I've always really enjoyed the waitresses. They are super nice & love to joke with us, never hover, & memorize everyones order with no mistakes! No paper & pen, & theres 5 of us that ALL alter our platter in different ways. (one wants no potato, extra salad, the other no rice no onion, etc). You will NOT be disappointed, it's where my family goes 95% of the time we go out to eat.
