My ears hurt, my stomach is unimpressed

I went to MM because I heard it was be a notch above Montana's or Kelseys. Being a burger lover, I had the mushroom burger which was good enough, and a side of fries (also just okay). The Antler Ale is average. Basically, I found the food to be about what you can get at any similar joint.

The big issue for me was the intensity of the noise/music. It was really ear-splitting. Okay, so you go on a Friday and what do you expect? So be it. I found it impossible to carry on a conversation with my friends, and we had to shout to be heard.

Since the food was only average and the prices are no bargain either, I won't go back. There are just too many better choices in the area.

The garden burger is good for what it is--not attempting to resemble beef with an overdose of tofu content. They have fresh light, fluffy, toasted sesame buns for the burger. Fries are decently made with skin and a clean regular change of deep-fryer oils. The beef burger patties are not very eventful for their signature burgers. It resembles the Harvey's burger patties, in taste and texture, being that it feels like eating ham/spam--too soft, almost like meat that's been processed to a level further than ground beef. The burger itself isn't at all juicy--it just depends too much on the sauce provided. Their signature burgers are easier to eat since it's served in a french baguette though halved in length/portion. Price-wise, it's relatively inexpensive, while it's there to compete with a Red Robin's across the street, Montana's at the mall, and a whole batch of chain/franchise locations nearby. The cocktail concoctions can be bordering on too watered-down... maybe that depends on the bartender of the day. They do serve various wines, beers, etc.. When they clean the tables, they should be sure to make sure they don't just sweep all the crumbs onto the seats and leave it there for the next guests to sit on.

It's not a place I'd make a point to avoid, nor is it somewhere I'd purposely revisit. I would eat there again if it was for a matter of convenience and if it's just to fill my belly rather than enjoy a meal.

Bad restaurant.

I dined here on the evening of 7 March 2009, ordering one of the few attractive choices from a basically unattractive and poor steakhouse menu. No shrimp cocktail, no tomato and onion salad, no French onion soup and a rather paltry selection of steaks! I mean, what kind of a steakhouse is this??!

Anyway, I ended up with the "Avalanche Mikeburger." The "two patties" were razor thin, tough, tasteless and grossly overcooked. This would qualify as one of the worst hamburgers I have ever had. Much better is available just over the way at the local A&W for a fraction of the price. Even McDonald's is better.

The service was average. The milieu was so-so and appeared a bit threadbare. The value was simply not there the burger was so poor.

Needless to say I would not bother to return to this establishment to sample the few steaks on the "steakhouse" menu. And what's with the motif of fat, half-naked men prancing around in the wilderness??! This is just stupid and tasteless. Kind of like the Mikeburger.

Better than I had expected!

The other half and I were in search of steak for dinner. The Keg was jammed packed in Burnaby so we headed for Coquitlam... yeah... not yet reopened after their fire. We saw the Mr. Mike's across the street and decidec to give it a whirl. Very pleased over all I have to say!

Greeted immediatly in the door... 10 minute wait (on a Saturday night!) and a server who was on his game. Drink orders were taken and on the table within 5 minutes of sitting down. Very nice. I ordered the Classic Steak Combo and he had the grilled sirloin. My combo came with the clam chowder which was enough to share for a starter. A bit too heavy on the salt but no too bad like other places have been. Once that was finished, the plate was wisked away and our dinners in front of us within 5 minutes of the soup being removed. The steak I had had mushrooms and a baked potato with a side of corn. Now,... I agree about the corn having to go. A combo of other veggies would have been nicer and would have presented much nicer. Both steaks were cooked exactly as we asked for (medium rare) and perfectly seasoned. Dessert was generous enough for 2 people and perfect for sharing.

The manager seemed to be on top of everything and kept a close watch on everything happening. Very nice to see such a hands on management team.

We'll be back for dinner again for sure.

Nothing special...

Food: The taste was generally ok-good. I had the peppercorn steak which was good and my bf had some type of chicken/scallop/shrimp dish with rice pilaf which he thought was good. The only problem was that the portions were too small and they really need to serve something other than corn on the side. It's only good for those who eat very light. Nothing outstanding, just run of the mill food.

Service: Nice servers but really don't know what they're doing. Asked us if we wanted fresh ground pepper but then forgot to bring the pepper grinder... lol. oh man....

Ambiance: Just your typical bar trying to be better than a bar but not quite succeeding. Very plain and I wouldn't recommend bringing a date.

Overall: Probably won't be coming back. There's plenty of other places that offer a much better meal at that price and a much better dining experience.

You have to try this place....

I have been going to Mr. Mikes on & off for about 25 years. When I moved to Vancouver 10 years ago, I was disappointed to learn they didn't have one here :( Then to my surprise, I'm driving through Coquitlam & BAM....I see Mr. Mikes!! I know I shouldn't get so excited over food, but it's so good!

You have to try their Mike Burger --- to die for! They also have incredible steaks (comparable to great steakhouses)...all at extremely reasonable prices.

I do recommend checking this place out...I'm certain you won't be disappointed!

We were very disappointed with the food. For the price, you expect great food. What we got was good at best. The oily corn side dish was horrible. The steak was not cooked to specification. The burger wasn't outstanding.

We won't be going back.

cold meals
By judy of coquitlam (1 Review)
Submitted Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 10:57pm [Dine in]

I recently dined here with a friend. The food was barely lukewarm when it arrived. We returned our meals which were replaced with further almost cold meals. These were barely eaten. We were informed that we would still be charged as they had made a concession by not charging for the first 2 cold meals. I did not expect to be charged for these very substandard meals and said I would only pay for our beverage. When the bill arrived the full charge (minus coupon) was on it. We paid for our beverages and then left the restaurant. We were pursued by the waiter and the manager who accused us of dine and dash and threatened us with calling the police. We are 2 senior ladies and were hardly dashing, Just refusing to pay for substandard food. In the end they backed off leaving us shocked and disappointed. In addition, throughout our entire awful experience we were referred to as "Girls" by our server; which we found to be patronizing and degrading.

I've used this restaurant to meet clients because it's near my place of business. The menu is pretty simple but the food and service have declined dramatically over the past six months. The last two times there I have had to send my meal back. It's become simply unacceptable. The servers aren't very friendly which leads me to believe there is management problems at the restaurant. I won't return no matter how conveniently located it is.

Mmmm mmm, was my chicken oscar ever tasty! They served us as a group of 12 in the lounge area, which was very nice of them. But you could tell the server was a little agitated.

The food quality is what you'd expect from a mid-range chain-style restaurant. But the selection is better. The Big Creek salad with chipotle-ranch dressing knocked the socks off my lady.

Decent franchise beers are served in novelty glasses, kind of like Fogg & Sudds. All in all, this is a decent place to hang with the friends for a burger and a pint.

My favorite Thursday hang out

I'm actually quite surprised from some of the lower ratings of other users for this place--but since I don't go here other than for half price appies (Thursday after 9pm), I guess I can't say much.

This place only attracts me for the fact it has half price appetizers. They recently got new menus, and they look nice--but it still seems like the same food, with some things cut out. All in all, I would recommend coming here only for Thursday evenings, and that's about it.

Unique choice of menu like Salmon wellington. It's juicy and tender inside with crispy outer pastry. The decor brings you outside but keeps the cozy feeling inside.

Great service. One of Coquitlam hippest place to dine out.

A friend and I went here using the entertainment book. We were looking for a place that had a patio. Aside from the bird poop on a couple of tables, patio was alright. Ordered the crab and artichoke dip and got a concoction of cream sauce with mixed in pieces of artichoke... we were left searching for the crab. Entrees were as good as one can expect when going to a chain-style restaurant: just ok. Wouldn't go back.

This place is still open?!

This place is just T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E! I don't know how it could possibly still be open.

The service is lacking, nothing on the menu stands out, the prices aren't "great", and ambiance needs a lot of work.

I've been there a handful of times to give it a chance because friends of ours like this place. But NOT anymore. This place needs a HUGE re-vamping before I step foot in there again!

Need to Improve the Service
By george_vancouver of Downtown (1 Review)

We went to the Mike's last month for dinner. I used to live in Coquitlam for quite a while but I never heard about Mike's.

After entering the resturant, first thng I noticed was the bike hanging on the wall...and the strange posters with half naked guys canoning. Personally, the resturant's decoration was unfavorable...it created an unpleasant atmosphere.

We were very disappointed with the service. There was hardly any smiles on waitress's faces. Especially the one who led us to the table...she seriouly frowned when we kindly requested her to give us to a table in the shades.

The foods were so so. We only tried the steak and salmon and they didn't leave us a deep impression.

Mike's definitely needs some improvement.

Good Food - But TURN THE MUSIC down

The food has been great the couple of times I have eaten here. It's a lovely comfortable restaurant but the music is on way too loud. Hard to have a romantic dinner or even to talk to the people you are with.

I would go back though...and I have...
