Montana's Cookhouse is a casual, relaxed gathering place serving a family-friendly menu of steak, ribs, chicken, burgers and salads.
I wouldn't trek too far to eat here, but when I am at the mall or nearby, and would like to eat lunch somewhere, this is a great place. They have affordable lunch specials for good, hearty food. Dinners are great and affordable. Ambiance is neat, too. It's a unique place in a town full of the usual suspects.
Wait staff hardly ever showed up at the tables, even though it wasn't very busy. If they did, they may have cut down on the other patrons' kids' high-decibel horseplay and messy spills. But at least their squealing gave relief from the profanity-filled conspiracy theory venom from the woman at the table next to ours, something that an attentive and experienced server would have picked up on and tried to defuse. Oh, and the orders got messed up too. Definitely didn't leave the standard tip.
I love the Ribs here, but the restaurant is a little too "open" all around you so a bit noisy. I've been back several times though....Huge servings, friendly staff and quick....Prices are ok..not too high, not too low.
I'm not crazy about the tables and chairs here...not overly comfortable...but the food makes it worthwhile.
I have been to both of the Montana's. I normally go and eat in the bar - a little quieter than the restaurant and more fun. But it all depends who is the bartender and server. There have been times when we have waited 10 minutes before being served and the place was not busy. The food is normally very good - even when you show up at 10:30 at night and they close at 11 - have been a few times when the quality is just not there but the ribs are wonderful and always good and messy.
We arrived on a Saturday night around 6:15 pm and was seated within a few minutes in a corner booth with a window view as had reservations. Ordered the back pork ribs, regular and large size ($21 & $27) They arrived in a fairly short time, good size portions, very meaty but a few of the ribs I found a bit dry, as I prefer fattier ribs so maybe next time will order the pork side ribs instead. We picked yam fries, coleslaw, baked potato, corn for the sides. The potato had great texture but was a bit cold. The cornbread did not taste that fresh and a bit dry. One thing that was kind of annoying was that every few minutes or so the staff would put a large moosehead on the birthday person's head and sing their song which was like a birthday chant or something.. it seemed to go on all night. Don't think its that hygienic as well. We could hear screaming kids at the other end as well but if you don't mind people shouting all night and a loud atmosphere you will have a good time.
We used to love to go there for dinner, but we're quite dispoint last time, when they're busy the meat can be dry or burn, we have twice dry meat, so do not go there on the weekend, if can control the quality the price is fine, but when you have recieved the burn ribs oh, oh, the price not good, I think next time I will ask them control the quality before I make order.
Yesterday was our daughters birthday. We didn't have time to go downtown, but wanted to give something new a try.
Montana's has been open for awhile in our area, but we have never been.
We all had different items, and they were all solid. Nothing spectacular but definately acceptable.
At the end of our meal they put a funny hat on our 13 year old's daughters head and sang her happy birthday. She was definately embarrased and it made us all laugh.
We have some good pictures, and would definately go there again for a family outing.
Montana's is a very nice family restaraunt, the servers are very friendly. The food was not bad at all, the ribs are quite good actually. It has a very casual country-like decor, which my kids really enjoy. And the paper on the tables are a nice touch, it keeps my kids quiet while waiting for their food :)
