The ventilation in this Korean restaurant was very poor as the entire dining room was very smokey even though each table has a exhaust system. Prepare to wash your clothes upon departure of this place. Usually in the better Korean restaurants, the staff will assist in the settings to ensure everybody is using the exhaust fans and the there is higher air exchange rates in the HVAC system. I would not recommend this place for anybody with respiratory issues, asthmatics or young children.
We had a family dinner here order the BBQ Combo D for five people for $100 along with numerous other dishes. With the BBQ Combo D, we were shorted the organic salad, edamami and scallops. When we asked about the missing items, they said, they substituted the items with something else. Puzzled by this, we asked them what they substituted and they had to go back to get another staff member to come and then say they changed the menu and the items were not available.
We had a menu and it clearly stated ALL these items were a part of the Combo. Based upon the other reviews here, it seems there is a common practice of ripping off consumers here.
If you want good Korean food with good service that does not try to rip off patrons, I strongly suggest driving another 10 mins to Insadong at North Rd and Lougheed.
Nice setting and view for a restaurant, but everything else was very disappointing.
The Beef short ribs were very poor quality, especially for the price. The Special Prawn deepfried and served in sweet and spicy sauce were very expensive and very mediocre at best.
As disappointing as the food was, the service was probably the worst i've ever experienced in a restaurant. One server running around and serving aproximately 10 tabls, once our order was taken and food delivered, we couldn't even wave down our server for the remainder of the meal, which meant no refill of drinks or side dishes, even though we desired more.
Will not return.
My wife and I visited this restaurant as we were craving Korean BBQ. I was born in Canada and my wife is originally from South Korea, so we have eaten at many Korean restaurants. My first impression of this place was quite good. The interior of the restaurant was nice with lot's of space between tables, big booths and tables, and it seemed clean (the bathrooms are a different story!). Our server came to take our order, but they did not have any sam kiup sal (I don't know the correct spelling) which is what we were craving. We were disappointed but ordered the BBQ for two instead. When the food arrived, we were quite surprised how small the portions were especially for nearly $40. The meat was ok, and the side dishes were terrible. We constantly had to ring the service bell so that the server would change our cooking plate. We noticed that some food on the menu that we ordered didn't come to us so my wife asked about it. One of waitresses said "Canadians do not like that food so we substitute it for another". However, they didn't give us a choice, they just assumed that we don't like that food. Actually, we do like that food. Basically, we didn't get what we ordered, instead they served us whatever they wanted to serve. The servers kept asking other tables for refills of more side dishes, but we were never asked even once. We left without leaving a tip, which is something we rarely do even if the restaurant was sub-par.
Went to this restaurant last Sunday night around 8pm. Not busy and was seated right away. Menu looked good with lots of selection. Ended up ordering grill combo for 2, bibimbap (in regular bowl), smoked beef dish as well as beef rib soup and spicy tofu soup. There were 4 of us. Food came quickly and was very good. Good marinade for the raw pieces and the soups were very good though a bit on the small side. The bibimbap was excellent in fact, we ordered another one but in the heated clay bowl instead. The 2nd bowl wasn't as good as the 1st one though. They also kept refilling the side dishes anytime we asked. Overall I would definitely come back again.
I came across this restaurant by chance yesterday, I was out in Coquitlam with plans to go to H&M and I saw this across the street so I decided to try it. I was not dissapointed at all.
First of all, the food was excellent. I've eaten at quite a few Korean restaurants in the lower Mainland and this was one of the best. The BBQ beef was so tender you barely had to chew. The appetizer dishes were excellent (especially the potato) and the noodles were fantastic. I have absolutely no complaints about the food whatsoever, we ordered the set BBQ menu for 3 and we were very happy with everything that came out.
Service was also top notch. We didn't need to ask for more of the appetizer dishes, they simply noticed we were low on certain ones and brought more out without asking. Staff had limited English but was very polite and we had no issues whatsoeve.r
Ambiance was fine, but not spectacular. There are a lot of windows in the restaurant which give it a nice open feeling but it isn't as large as you would think when you see the sign outside. It's a comfortable place to be in.
All in all, I would definitely come back here. If you're looking for a nice change from Insadong or Jang Mo Jib, give this a shot.
So it's Valentine's day and I decided to suprise my girlfriend with something new, if not terribly romantic... korean BBQ. Neither of us have had it before and since we were going to a movie in Coquitlam, I found this place through dinehere.
We arrived at the restuarant, were greeted, and told it would be 10-15 minutes... and asked nicely if we wanted to wait. We said sure and took a seat in the waiting area.
Almost 10 minutes later, another (korean) couple comes in... are told it will be 10-15 minutes and that they are after us, so they take a seat.
5 minutes later the host, who seemed to be the manager, came by as they had a table ready. My girlfriend began to stand and he said "not you, them. It'll be another 10-15 minutes."... then proceeded to take the other couple to a table.
I'm in awe as much as I am offended that this gentleman was so nonchalant about the blatent display of racism. Needless to say the "white couple" didnt stick around to see if we'd really be next or shuffled to the back of the line again.
I'm not mad, even directly after the incident, just incredibly dissapointed.
I don't know what's wrong with the previous review but i had a very pleasant dine-out experience in Koreana. I normally go there on a weekday night ( Mon - Thurs) as I don't like a crowded restaurant. The waiter is very attentative and polite. I had the best service so far in a korean restaurant. And the BBQ is well marinated. Absolutely delicious! Definitly will return quite ofter. Keep up the good work!!
This is a typical Korean BBQ place where you cook your own food. Lots of trad fare and very tasty. I honestly can't complain about the food quality.
The problem with this place is the TERRIBLE wait staff.
The staff during the day, when management is around to keep an eye out, is acceptable to good.
However, when there's no management around to supervise...
Just last night, one girl brought our food while chatting on her cell phone. While asking for additional plates, she waved impatiently all the while keeping that cell phone glued to her skull.
Once the food was brought out, no wait staff came to check on us for drink refills or anything. We had to wave at them to get their attention, and then they would mope over as if they were teens being reprimanded complete with eye rolling and sighing.
Because of the food quality, we'd go again, but we'd never recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience.
Still, knowing that the service is terrible, you can stiff them on tips utterly free of guilt.
This is the first korean bbq restaurant i've been to. Went here with my friends on a late night. The good thing is they are open past midnight so if you have late night snack cravings for something filling you can come here. Reminds me of hotpot actually but with korean food on a grill.
We would have ordered all you can eat but chose to just do separate ordering, maybe next time will be all you can eat.
The food is good though you are cooking it yourself so it all boils down to the marination. Though the side dishes was a bit tasteless for me. The kimchi had too much chili and not enough taste, it just was like eating chilies. That basically was the only issue I had with the food.
Service was really excellent, we had a girl who was new to the job but she was very courteous and helpful. She even said the chefs in the back could cook our meals for us if we wanted to. They even changed our grill once it started to get all grimy.
Overall I had a pleasant experience and will come back here again to try the all you can eat option.
