Korean BBQ restaurant
I ordered the seafood pancake and the BBQ chicken plate. Both came in the iron cast plates and as I was eating it, I realized that in both dishes, the bottom of the plate was drenched in about 1/4 cup of oil. WTF is up with that? I thought Korean food was supposed to be "healthy." That was digusting.
I gave the service a poor rating because even though we were greeted by a very nice gentleman, the boy who took our order was a complete arogant jerk who did not smile and acted like we were a charity case.
Not coming here again, and for people who want to try this place, do not be tricked by the "good" reviews of others.
My boyfriend and I always go to Koreana in coquitlam, but a friend wanted to bring us to Insadong--big mistake!
The service was disgustingly poor. The food took forever to bring out, and it wasn't that great of quality either. Their dumplings were disgusting to the point where I could barely finish one of them--AWFUL!
We went to the restaurant yesterday, it was long lineup which is good, that means food's good!
Waitress took us to our table, we ordered combination for 6, my god, that was A LOT of food, it's got a lot of EVERYTHING, beef, chicken, shrimp, soup, and salad! The traditional Korean pancake was heavnly taste, soup was excellent, however, I thought the mussles weren't so good to BBQ with, it will never cooked nor the taste was any good. Overall experience was good except the service, we had to wait for a LONG LONG time to get our water filled and rice. They need more servers for sure, I liked the server ring a lot though, just push the ring to get servers. It's quite good and we will go back sometimes espeically if they hire more servers.
We picked this restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday with a group of friends. The restaurant is very big and has a few private rooms to choose from; however, the room that we booked on the phone was NOT the room they gave us when we were actually there (they gave us a smaller room). The moment the waitress saw us carrying a cake into the restaurant, she told us that we would be charged $10 for eating the cake in their restaurant. This is unheard of....never before had we been asked to pay at any restaurant for bringing our own birthday cake. The food there is generally good...no complaint about that, but be aware, this restaurant does not provide unlimited free side dishes like the other Korean restaurants. They charge you $1 for every plate of side dish you order (but the first time is free). We still had a good time there, but I don't think we will be going back there again.
I just have to say, this is a great place to get together with friends and family for a good meal. I have some..let's just say traditional Korean chefs in my family and they enjoy the food immensely. If they say it's good then it's good. For those of you not in the know, use the push bell for service. It is very common in large Korean establishments. Just a small note for sage mom...get out into the world and absorb some culture! Read about another nationality before venturing outside your regular comfort criteria. Try cooking it yourself...it's fun.
I gave ambiance 3 stars because I come here for the food not the decor. For tastey protein I come here. Nuff said.
Food: Went here for lunch with a group of 7 and order the group bbq combo ($120). This came with a huge platter filled with short ribs, thicker cut ribs, beef chicken and spicy pork bulgogi, mussels, oysters, shrimp, and mushrooms. They also served a refreshing chicken jellyfish salad and korean pancake as an appetizer. After the meal, they also gave seafood soup, although there was only enough for 7 half bowls. Along with this were 7 condiments (kimchi, sweet daikon, bean sprouts, lettuce etc) that were endlessly refillable. The food was excellent and I left satisfied.
Service: The service was incredible, as in incredibly fast. We just press that button and they come within 15 seconds, and this was a pretty large restaurant with turns, steps, ancient art, and other neat obstructions. They were also quick to replace the grill with a new one 4 or 5 times, without being distracting. That being said, I did come for lunch so I can't comment on the busier dinner time.
Value: I was fairly full (not ayce full, but still) so it was a good value. It would have been better to have more seafood though.
Ambiance: It is a large nicely decorated restaurant and the tables are far apart to not feel crowded. Its also has private rooms and the requisite karaoke room.
Obviously you cannot compare this place with authentic Korean foods in Korea. But nonetheless, I think it does pretty good job and better than most of the Korean Restaurants in Vancouver area. They are quite busy during dinner times so the young servers really try to do their best to serve all the customers. Btw, did you know you could ring a bell attached to your table?????? since the restaurant has dividers servers can't see you! duh! duh! if you ring the bell they will come in 5 min.
I often have the seafood combo for 2-3 people (but eat it with 4 people and get so full). Always good, never disappointing. It's good to order separate dishes too. I always like beef rib noodle soup. The pancakes are not really traditional Korean style and too oily for my taste.
Btw, the concept of cooking yourself is really so you can enjoy food with the people you came while grilling your meat/fish and sharing. Too bad some people have no clue and think it's weird or stupid. Again, the dividers are put up for privacy of the group, so ring the damn bell if you need any help and servers will hurriedly come by and ask you what you need!!!!!!!!!!!
A very stable choice! I always go with 5+ people to take advantage of their bbq combos. Seafood pancake is really good! Consistent and very high quality! Once I had a really wonderful server who was so attentive and so kind - chased me down in the parking lot to give me back my a hair elastic from my seat. Did i mention he was cute? ANYHOO. Another time i went, i found it really hard to get any one's help - even to order. Perhaps we were in a bad spot. Always a nice experience. Crazy looking fish in their tank! If you have any plans, like coming with a cake or a large party, it'll be worth ur while to call ahead and make arrangements. Recommend reservations on a weekend night.
This place is very busy all the time. I only need to complain is taking too long to get a table on weekends.
This place very generous for food and side dishes, especially they change their side dishes often time by time. Service is very impressive and fast. I like their seafood hotpot combo which is surely enough for 4 people. This is the only Korean restaurant I always enjoy.
Although the food is good, the combos people are talking about are $30 per person (raised it about 2 months ago). That's expensive for a meal per person where food is decent but not exceptional. Quantities are huge so that is not the issue.
Value = 2/5
Food = 3/5
Service = 4/5
