Great place for Pizza in Coquitlam
By BigAnthony of Vancouver (54 Reviews)

I was told about this place by a friend so I came a few times to try it out.
1st time.. stopped in for lunch. Cool little place, they have some nice pasta options. It was not busy there and service was good. I ordered one of their tortellini dishes. It was good but nothing spectacular. I needed to come back and order something else to be sure..
2nd time.. I came with my wife for dinner. We each ordered a pizza. I had the Caprese - $15 & she had the Maranello - $15. Both pizzas were awesome! Thin crust and delicious. Our waitress got busy during dinner and service became slow. She did her best though, it wasn't her fault. For dessert we shared a tiramisu - $7 and it was also yummy.
Overall this is a cool little place, has a casual relaxed feel inside. I will be back next time I am in the mood for a good pizza and I will be telling my friends about it.
My rating is based on both meals so if I were to only have eaten the pizza here I would have rated the food a 4 instead of 3.

As good as it gets

I have tried everything on their menu. I am now a few pounds bigger, a great deal happier and an expert on Italian food. Honestly the canneloni has me humming while I eat it. It's a good thing that they expanded so we can get a seat whenever we arrive. The salads and pizza have already been described and I will affirm that they are spectacular. I appreciated them more tonight than any other time after a very bad Italian meal in another restaurant. Don't bother going anywhere else. This is as good as it gets.

I've heard good things about Golden Boot so I don't know if they were having an off night but my recent experience there was disappointing at best. We ordered a margarita pizza and I was hoping for an authentic Italian taste but it was basically just as good as a plain cheese pizza you'd get at Pizza Hut. There was nothing tasty about it at all. We also ordered a pasta dish which is what they're supposed to be famous for but it was one of the most disgusting things I've ever eaten. I don't think they put one grain of salt in the water--blech! Handmade or not handmade-pasta from right out of a box would have been much better.

I agree with other comments that the waiters tend to spend all their time with the regulars and barely have a smile for you if you're not. The ambiance is okay. They've expanded it so there are more tables and it's not so cramped in there as it once was.

Overall, there is nothing about The Golden Boot that would make me want to go there again.

some of these reviews are laughable.....clearly some shill reviewing going on....

anywho, i live close by, am italian myself and familiar with all the top italian restaraunts downtown.....

tried this place a few times, havent been for a while, but from what i remember, the food is very munja cake ("italian food" made to suit non italians)....

for proper italian food, you really have to go into vancouver...... there are no quality options in the tricities....

had to say something especially after reading some of these reviews, which look very fake.

Great freshly made pasta

Came here a few times and I have tried the special pasta dishes, and there were all excellent. I haven't tried anything that I didn't like yet. The Hand Made Tortellini and Cannelloni were my favorites, yum!

The servers are friendly but seem to spend a lot of time on a few tables, I assume the regulars. I found the service fine and friendly, but a little sparse. The restaurant itself has an old feeling to it and could use an upgrade, but isn't dirty.

Although they have expanded, I still find this place quite solid. They have changed the look and feel of the old Boot, and replaced it with a trendier pasta place. Same owner/chef, and although you'll never get a smile out of him, the food will leave you with a smile. Stick with the carbonara, the penne rosa, or a nice pizza. It's worth trying for sure, but maybe bring a friend and the entertainment coupon and share. Small but delicious portions.

Yummy homemade pasta + close to home + ebook coupon - yay! We come here every now and then when we feel like homemade pasta. Always fresh and tasty. Place is very tiny but cozy for two. I've tried the linguini and penne and sausages, delicious. Worth a try! Great neighborhood joint for pasta for sure!

I like this place a lot. I've been there quite a few times, but I've not written a review before. With that in mind, it may be a little uncharitable in my first review of the Boot to write about a bad experience.
I don't hold them responsible for the three testosterone-charged yahoos at the next table who were determined to make a pizza last for the whole of the hockey game on TV, but their distracting presence was not a positive addition to the atmosphere we usually enjoy. However, I do expect that, when they hire a new server, they ensure that the person is fully-trained on the details of the menu before being let loose on an unsuspecting public.
My wife and I ordered two beverages, one salad, and two entrees. As I ordered each food item, the server asked me to point it out on the menu before she wrote it down. Away she went, and it took two goals and a slashing minor in the hockey game before the drinks arrived. Another long wait and the basket of warm bread turned up. No plates for the olive oil and balsamic vinegar though. We had to attract the attention of another person to get those.
Because of the long wait for the bread, the entrees arrived before we had finished one stick. Only one of the orders was correct. By the time my correct order arrived (with the salad that we had by then given up on), my wife was almost finished.
OK, the server was very apologetic, and kept saying it was because she was new and hadn't got used to the menu yet, and she didn't charge us for one entree, but the next time I go to a restaurant where the server asks me to point out our choices on the menu, we shall get up and go to another hostelry.

Not as good as I hoped

I was looking forward to trying this plce in hopes that it could be a close by go to Italian joint. We ordered the garlic prawns to start and then a pizza and baked pasta to follow. Prawns were boring and bland but well cooked. 6 prawns poached in garlic cream, meh. The pizza looked great, but disappointed the taste buds. Sauce was lacking and bland and generaly just boring. Crust was great, but wished the toppings were more flavourful. I thought the pasta was good but my girlfriend disagreed. I would try again if they expanded the menu and included some meat and fish dishes.

Good local pasta restaurant

This is a nice restaurant where the seating is primarily for two people. It does get busy however when I went in for lunch was seated with no wait. The service was prompt and solid.

The food is good and is on par with most pasta restaurants in the city. The pasta was nourishing but wasn't absolutely outstanding if you are driving in from a couple municipalities into Coquitlam.

A bonus is that you can use The Entertainment coupon here. Parking can be limited when it is busy.

Best pizza this side of the Atlantic?

Ok, that's a fairly big claim. I've had pizza at Marcello's, Lombardo's and Steveston Pizza Co and while they were all solid (the latter being pretty damn good), the pizza here was just ludicrously good! Even my gf, who doesn't even have a taste for pizza had to comment on how good it really was. Come here and order the Modernese. The proscuitto is just too flavourful.

We also ordered a pasta which was supposed to come with a spicy sauce, but it had no spiciness whatsoever, so that's my only complaint. It did, however, come impeccably cooked (egg-based fettucini) with plenty of prawns.

The service was very friendly. We came without a reservation and the hostess still seated us instead of turning us away. It's a very small place so reservations are recommended. I didn't think I'd find a restaurant of this quality out in the hicktown of Coquitlam (where I happen to live, no less) so we didn't think to make reservations... Ah well, it worked out great.

A Special Little Place

When my fiancee said that we should go to the Golden Boot for dinner, I never dreamed it would be this good.

When we got to the restaurant, I realized that I had been in their parking lot once before when making a stop at another business in that strip mall.

It doesn't look like much from outside. Just your typical little cafe/coffee shop.

It has a nice hustle and bustle atmosphere inside. Not many tables, maybe 5 or 6 smaller ones that seat about 4 and one large table that would hold about 8. Reservations would be in order.

Arrived shortly before 7:30 and I had made reservations. Started with the Spinach Salad. Wow, what an amazing salad. It was the combination of everything, the fresh crisp spinach, Prosciutto, pine nuts and perfect amount of goat cheese. The dressing was unbelievable and we asked about it. It is a thickened balsamic but it complemented the ingredients perfectly.

I had the Penne Con Funghi and both my fiancee and son had the Penne Alla Vodka. Wow, unbelievably good pasta. Possibly the best I have ever had and I have been lucky enough to have some really good pasta. Pasta was cooked to perfection. Seasoning was just right.

My only criticism was that it would have been perfect if we had fresh parmigiano reggiano.

Complimentary bread was crisp and tasty. Balsamic and olive oil on the table.

We finished with coffee (good and strong) and gelatos, strawberry (very nice) and vanilla (you taste the bean).

Service was good and attentive and the two waitresses were busy but always took the time to explain, and check up on you.

Definitely a place to return to. It was authentic Italian.

Real Italian Flavor here

Had dinner here tonite and what a treat. As others have said, its the best pasta you will ever have. And how true. My fiance and son had there pastas and I had penne vodka. Yum. the flavor was exquisite. Started with spinich salad, pancetta and tomatos with special balsamic. To die for . One of the finest starters in many moons.
A family place bistro with reasonable pricing and not too fancy a menu, just good tasty, wholesome food. If our owners spent more on decor. menu and ambiance, we probably would have to pay more.
This is by far one of the best Italian bistro restaurants for flavor I have ever been to. This chef knows his Italian!!!

This is a small Cafe located 1 block off of Austin not more than 9 tables. The food is excellent prepared fresh by the 2 chefs in the open kitchen. I had the chicken special, chicken breast in a spicy wine sauce & my husband had the penne both dishes were great. The pasta dishes are available in small & large. The small pasta is definetly enough for 1 person. Salads are fresh & delicious. We didn't have a reservation & were lucky enough to get the last table, many people were turned away.
Will return but next time will phone ahead for reservation.

I took my mom and brother there after reading all the good reviews on this site, and I have to say, I'm very glad I gave this place a try. The food was excellent. Authentic Italian. My mother is in love with the Modenese pizza.

I have had my share of bad pasta in the past, but Golden Boot redeemed pasta for me. The Penne Con Funghi was so creamy and flavorful(we ordered it with the cream sauce instead of the tomato). We wanted to try the tiramisu, but we were too full at the end. The portion sizes were pretty large for us.

Definitely a restaurant we would visit again!

the best pasta you'll ever eat!

i'm not kidding...it is the best pasta that i've ever had. the reason why i've stated that it's the best you'll ever eat, is based on all the people that i know who dine there.

the service, food, and amibance are truly amazing, however it is a very small restaurant (a hole in the wall kinda place). this is very appealing to a lot of people, but can make it a little tight for us big guys who need that extra elbow room.

book ahead...it's always busy!

My first time at this restaurant was this past weekend and everything that was written was true! The food was great, and lots of it! The platters are amazing (very filling and heavy) and the atmosphere, from the decor to the staff is terrific. Nice place to go with a group of people. Call for reservations always on weekends
