I waited a month to write this review

We loved this place and came here all the time over the decades and I reviewed this place on this site 2 years ago.
We hadn't been back since for reasons I stated in my review then but decided to give it another go for old time sake. Too bad.
At lunch during the week the place was almost empty. Never a good sign. But we like to sit on the deck so what would it matter? Our order was simple but after a half hour I asked the server what was up. Apparently they had a table of 6 come in who placed their order after ours but got seen to first. Ok that happens and we're liking the deck. The server apoligized when the food came about 15 minutes later. She was pleasant but seemed to be the only help the kitchen had.
We're not pickey because it's just food, but it was awful. Raw fish unless it's sushi is neither safe nor palatable. The fries that came with it were old and tired. My wife wouldn't eat the ham that came with her late breakfast as it tasted off.
The food was not costly but you simply cannot serve that stuff in that tardy fashion and survive in this business especially with the hit restaurants are taking today.
I'll remember this place for a lot of good times and I wish them well but we won't return.

didn't like the gravy on the prime rib

We had dinner here last night and ordered the $9.99 prime rib. Came with a 10 oz piece of prime rib, those mixed vegies (corn/carrots), one of those bun and a baked potato or fries, etc.. The fries tasted home made and the potato was nicely presented. I didn't like the gravy as found it too thick and salty, I prefer the thinner au jus instead.. We had the meat medium, but we found it a bit overcooked.. Its good value for $9.99 but it doesn't compare to the quality of the Keg prime rib ... the waitress was friendly and helpful though.. we might return and try a different dinner another night..

A group of us needed a place to go to buy a birthday dinner and some suds for a young diner who was turning 19. FQ was convenient, so we decided to give it another try. The place still looked crappy inside, but it was clean enough. Service was friendly and fast, even though the place was full. The menu had the usual pub fare and we got Thai sauce wings for starters and FQ burgers all round (the FQ burger is a bacon cheeseburger). The food was pretty good for pub grub, and not too expensive. Maybe the owners read some of the reviews that criticised the food? As for the drinks, we had a couple of pitchers, which were a way overpriced for the neighbourhood and location. We were far from the trendy downtown watering holes, and did not expect to pay downtown prices for beer. As for the birthday boy, he was able to have a reasonably quiet and satisfying meal and he seemed to enjoy his introduction to legal drinking...

Ummmm, sorry Mr. C...

Following a review by the normally-spot-on "chasiubow", the Other Half and I tried out this pub for lunch on a rainy Friday. Basically, we wish we hadn't.

Just walking into the place set off alarm bells. It smelled!! Like a backed-up toilet doused in bleach. We debated, but decided that the die had been cast, and we would stay.

Service was OK, more friendly with locals, but that's understandable. Drinks arrived in good order, and we deliberated over the menu. As it IS, after all, a pub, the selections were predictable. The soup of the day sounded interesting, so the OH ordered a Cajun chicken sandwich with creamy potato, onion and bacon soup as a side. I ordered a Monte Cristo sandwich with fries.

The soup was pronounced to be "odd", chunks of nugget potato in a standard cream-style base, no bacon to be discerned. The sandwich was quite definately "Cajun" in spicing, and the chicken was acceptable. The Monte Cristo was disappointing, very little cheese, ham or turkey inside, and tasteless outside. I ended up salting my sandwich! The fries were flaccid and unappealing.

Ambiance... aside from the smell, it was quite dark and kinda-sorta N'Awlins-style. Don't think much has been done since a long-ago reno. Entry from the parking lot out back is either through the beer and wine store or through a tiny hall next to the (mmmmmm, not attractive) kitchen.

We won't be going back. I'm sorry that our experience was so different from the extremely-accurate and informative Mr. C.

My friends and I have now gone here (only on wkends) about 5-6 times and we've enjoyed all our meals! I've had the burger, steak dinner and prime rib dinner and can't complain at all. 9.95 for the dinners is well worth it...I couldn't cook that meal at home for cheaper. I usually order a caesar drink which varies with the bartender making it and my friends usually have wine which they enjoy. This is now a regular place during the w/end afternoons. Give it a try....decor could use updating but it's a neighbourhood pub after all...

Great Food, Good Service, Ok Atmosphere

It's a pub, one expects a certain "ambiance". This pub delivers what you would expect, however really suprises with a GREAT steak and fantastic pasta, at an incredible $7.95 that includes a salad of your choice. Food was top notch, service was friendly and prompt, no complaints... well just one.... place smells a little "wet",or previously wet and not dried out quite right, but trust me, hold your nose and dive in as once the great food comes out, and the smell of a fantastically perferct steak hits your nose, you're all set!

5 starts (*minus 1 for the dank stank)

The french quarter is in definate need of an update and some new service staff ! every time we have gone there we have had painfully slow service, the food is cheap... but it is also cheap in quality. The beer prices arent bad, good place to go watch the game, have some pints and wings. But nothing more.
