E2 Cafe serves up a selection of Chinese and Western cuisine, bubble tea, soup and more.
We pass by this intersection often, and noticed the old Lulu Cafe had changed hands. If you read my previous reviews, Lulu was terrible.
We decided to give E2 a try to see if it had truly changed hands.
When we arrived, we were promptly greeted and seated in a nice quiet corner, as we had our 2 mth old with us.
The restaurant has had a few minor updates since Lulu Cafe to brighten and clean it up. The restaurant was clean and comfortable, and it didn't feel as cramped as it's predecessor.
The menu is a HK Style Cafe menu. They had a range of mini-sets for lunch, fried noodles, and appetizers. One item of note was the Fish soup with noodles. Very much like those offered at places like Deer Garden, it's freshly made soup stock with no MSG, with options for noodles, meats, etc. All the of set meals come with a tea or coffee, and making them into cold drinks is no cost (which we love!).
I ordered the fish soup with thousand year eggs, and parsely, beef tongue, and fish balls in rice noodles. My wife ordered the mini love birds baked fried rice.
All the food arrived quickly, and was very tasty. The fish soup was very refreshing, with generous amounts of thousand year egg, mushrooms, veggies and meats. The love bird fried rice was also very well done, but the portion was "mini". Enough for a small or medium appetite, but big eaters would probably still be hungry.
The drinks were just ok, places like Mui Garden make much better drinks, but these were acceptable.
The service was friendly and quick. The boss came by to check on us and to take a peek at our little one and to have a brief chat.
Price wise, it's pretty standard. Most dishes are in the $7.50 - $8.50 range. About what we'd expect to pay at other HK Cafe style restaurants in the area.
The only down side is parking. As it resides in the same strip mall as Sushi California, so parking is a premium. E2 has a couple reserved spots for themselves, but it isn't nearly enough.
Overall we quite enjoyed E2 Cafe, and will definitely return.
