Craig's Cafe is a favorite breakfast and lunch spot in Coquitlam.
craigs cafe has improved slightly in the past 6 months, but it is very expensive for being such a hole in the wall..and the food is always inconsistent...it is worth a try to support the new owners of this restaurant.....unfortunately the servers need to improve on the service.
My wife and I used to enjoy eating at Craig's Cafe in Coquitlam. In a city that offers mostly chain restaurants, Craig's Cafe served coffee that was fair trade and organic, some enlightened entrees, and an interesting ambiance, including travel photos that adorned the walls. Recently, we revisited the restaurant (now called Into the Fire Cafe and Catering) with our 11-month-old daughter.
What a disappointment! We requested water four times before receiving it. We waited
an hour to receive a basic eggs benedict and a sandwich. After 45 minutes (couldn't she have told us earlier?), the waitress informed us that the kitchen was out
of tuna for the sandwich! She never actually apologized for the delays
or that the restaurant couldn't fulfill our menu request. She didn't seem to
care.
What a shame that the new owners seem oblivious about providing good service.
We've been going here off-and-on for the last few years. Disappointed over a decline in service we stopped going for a while, but decided to give it another try the other day, after learning the place had recently come under new management.
Not much has changed, in practical terms. The place is still basically a cold, badly-decorated dive, and the menu didn’t seem to be any different. The food itself was bland and underwhelming, considering the price, and service was slow.
The entire restaurant reeks of unprofessionalism, from the unkempt waitresses to the god-knows-how-old table cloths. There’s really no good reason to come here. It’s all well and good to want to support local business, but local business needs to at least offer something that one can’t just as easily get at the local Denny’s, or there’s really no incentive to keep visiting.
Clean up the place, improve the service, and put more energy into making high-quality, flavorful food. It’s not too complicated.
Let's hope the new owners are paying heed to these criticisms, otherwise there's no way this place will stay in business for much longer.
Heard from a friend this place was good and we were not disappointed. I had the eggs benny and my other had the Canadian ham omelette. The pancakes were super good - and the service was attentive. Will definitely come back - one of the best breakfast in Greater Vancouver.
In this unassuming location the ambiance was quite pleasant. The chef was friendly and open to feedback. The food was prepared to perfection and beautifully presented. It was a wonderful dining experience. Seven of us had five different dishes, pork, chicken, salmon and pasta and we all enjoyed our choices immensely. The chef obviously enjoys what he does and has a talent for good food presented attractively for a good price.
He specializes in making his salsa and other sauces from scratch.
His attention to these details shows and we will definatley be back.
I took my three aunties here in the summer of 06 and they loved it so I thought I'd go back this year- what a mistake! My first return experience was awful, the pancakes were dry and old. Second time I went with my beau again and the place was freezing cold, (both in personality and temperature!) The waitress actually told a customer to pull her slip off the card machine and sign it and leave it when she was done! There were only two other customers in the place- and they were at my table...so there was no excuse about being 'busy'...besides, who doesn't thank a customer and at least give them their receipt?! Food was awful- potatoes came out cold, tuna melt wasn't melted...couldn't get a refill on the joe...you get the idea. It's sad, I really want to like this place.
Overall the food was outstanding. The owner needs to be little more friendly, with staff and customers. Overall the restaurant is in a great location. I asked to speak to the owner about some catering, and she stated that she was to busy this month, which my wife and I though it was very rude.
The place to go for brunch, good food at reasonable prices.. Go there hungry, the portions are generous, the staff friendly and the organic coffee is a great eye opener. Craigs home made hot sauce is a must try.
