Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Comparable to Denny's.
This place is a great midweek dinner spot as well as a solid breakfast joint. The menu is ridiculously large and offers something for everyone. Don't go in expecting to be blown away and you will end up pleasantly surprised. We typically go for a baked pasta dish which are always tasty. Portions are large with most entrees being served with salad and garlic toast. If you stick to house favorites, you wont leave unhappy. Seating is all booths which is cozy. Recent renovations have increased the ambiance. Well placed TV's, cheap eats, and regular drink specials make for a solid place to enjoy the game or Sunday golf over brunch.
I ate brunch here this morning and overall, it was alright. I ordered bacon and eggs to keep things simple. The eggs were over easy and were a little overcooked but not too bad. The rest of the meal was pretty much what you'd expect in a decent diner.
Someone else had a cheese burger and it was a pre-processed patty which is a little disappointing. Another diner had a clubhouse and it had real chicken (or maybe turkey) breast meat in it so its sort of weird that they would do that and not make their own hamburger patties.
The service was prompt with coffees and waters refilled often. I might return if I'm in the neighbourhood.
Fantastic find close to Eagle Ridge Hospital. Upon being seated we were asked if we wanted to order a drink. 2 coffees I said and 2 coffees appeared with a bowl with 15 creamers. Right away I knew I would like this place. No need to waste time asking for more cream as your refilled coffee cools. Sometimes it's the little things that set you apart. By the way we were offered more coffee at least 6 times by staff hitting all the tables with a coffee pot. 2 full orders of baby back ribs 1 with mac and cheese and 1 with alfredo penne. The sides were absolutely delish. However I found the ribs to be a little dry and fell off the bone a little too easily. The full slab was not served as 1 piece but in 3 sections making me believe it was not a full slab cut into segments but 3 segments trying to pass itself off as a full slab. I will return but not for the ribs. Restaurant is very roomy with a very comfy atmosphere. Flat screens visible to all patrons. Just saw Canucks beat the Oilers 2-1. Great restaurant find.
I read the last review the same day I had a large party booked for the last day of a long weekend. Needless to say I was a little bit worried. However we had the exact opposite experience of the previous reviewer.
Our group of 25 (mostly seniors) was greated plesantly at the door, seated quickly and noticed that the air conditiong was set just perfect. Our server took our drink orders, which was tough because some people wanted drinks not on the menu, others wanted water with lemon-no ice or many different ways. Everybody got exactly what thay wanted, quickly. The Owner popped in just to make sure everybody was doing fine.
25 food orders were a quite varied, but also came hot and exactly as ordered. Endless fries were offered to any one who wanted, but the portions are good enough. I've had many things on the menu and and enjoyed them all.
If you have never been to "The Grill" it's a well kept secret that they have the best soups in BC. I have many seniors that will confirm this, and its a different 2 soups every day of the week! The value is great, about ten bucks for a execlent meal and some leftovers, 2 bucks for a soup or salad.
Back to our party... The staff were SuperHeros on September 5th 2011. Everybody in our group was well looked after and left happy with good things to say about the restaurant.
Sherese our server did a great job, Mike the owner came in a few times to check-in our our group.
The birthday girl had a free desert, and I was very happy we choose The Coquitlam Grill as our favorite restaurant.
Please do yourself a favor and come try this restaurant.
I'm sorry to write this review because on previous visits to this restaurant the service and food have been good.
We were seated after waiting 15 minutes and were asked right away if we want drinks. The 4 of us ordered coffee and one orange juice. We got our coffee in a reasonable time but no orange juice. We waited, and waited. After 3 cups of coffee and not seeing our waitress again, we asked the coffee girl to check on our orders.
A party of about 12 people came in and within 15 minutes were brought their food. We were still waiting. Still no waitress in sight. After waiting 50 to 60 minutes we decided to leave. Another table near us had complaints about the length of time it took to get their food and the length of time it took to pay.
Granted it was a long weekend and maybe they were short staffed but waiting an hour is not ok.
My friend did mention to the coffee girl, because we couldn't find out waitress, that we were leaving. She did say she mentioned to the waitress about the enquiry we had made. My friend did leave $5 to pay for the coffees.
Not sure if we will try this place again or not.
Came with high hopes and left satisfied. I had the pot roast dinner and the meat was very tender and flavourful. Mashed potatoes and veg were very good as well. We shared a delicious cesar salad that was plenty for both of us. My daughter had the cheesy chicken broccoli which she felt was a little one-note in taste although plenty of chicken and good creamy sauce. Our hostess was very pleasant, although perhaps a bit too revealing about her personal life. She was very customer service oriented which we very much appreciated. We will definitely be back for good home cooking!
Well, I gotta agree with all the other reviews about the food. It was definitely above average. It was late afternoon on Sunday again. I ordered the lasgna. Kids ordered ultimate omelette and hubby ordered italian breakfast. Theirs were okay, not extraordinary. But I gotta admit my lasgna was really good. After they finished theirs, they moved on to my food. Cheesy and huge portion, really fit in the appetite. The coffe was never running dry. The waiter/waitress came by very often to refill which never happened at other restaurants really. We totally satisfied with the food and the service.
However, what I recieved after that night was four days of stomach aches and bathroom running. So...I really don't know whether they are good or bad. But I gotta go back and try the ribs someday. Hopefully, I would be more lucky next time.
First of all....I am assuming the only reason the food was bad was because the service was bad. It took long for someone to take our order. we alomost left. we shouldve left. we ordered and that took long. when we got our meals they were cold. and the steak was dried out and cold, We ended up not eating most of it. I think we all lost our appetites. A family of 4. Table 32 - 6 pm October 22, 2011. It was not worth the expense for our hard earned money. was definately a big let down.
We went to Coquitlam Grill for breakfast this morning (Sept. 4/11). We enjoy going there with our friends from time to time and as a general rule, the service is fairly good and the meals come in a timely fashion, but today was a disaster. The previous review by dottak is our story also (we were with them), so I won't repeat it, but I have to say that we were all disappointed (not to mention "hungry"!) today with this restaurant and when we left, we still weren't sure where our waitress disappeared to!
My husband, 2 year old daughter and I went for breakfast one morning on a weekend, the restaurant wasn't that busy. It took almost an hour to get our breakfast we ordered (typical bacon and eggs, nothing special).
It took almost 30 minutes just to get the waitress to our table to get to order! and to top it off, I asked for a glass of water FOUR times, and it never did come. Then at the end, the waitress says, "Oh, you never got your water"... yeah - no kidding. Don't waste your time especially if you're short on time thinking you'll get a quick breakfast here. Food isn't anything that special either...
Our family has gone to the restaurant half doz times at least, found the food decent and the servers AMAZING; hence the reason we come back. We have a 2yr boy and they all spent time chatting it up with him and he always enjoyed all the attention of course which made our experience delightful as parents. If you're a parent you know what I mean. I recently had another baby boy and we decided we would go for dinner and show him off. He’s 5 weeks at the time which is Fri Aug 12. He is a perfect baby; very happy and we have taken him to plenty of other restaurants with no problems. half way through our meal I finish feeding him and he needs to be burped; so off he goes to dad to do the burping and he is a little fussy, he is not screaming his face off turning purple etc ect, just a bit whiny because he needs to burp. The OWNER comes over right away and is standing over us asking if everything is ok and that he is getting complaints from customers that our baby is interrupting their meals, and that he needs to think of them because they are spending big money there as he put it. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. We were given our bill, our food packed up, and our son the 2yr old missed out on his dessert that came with his kid’s meal that we ordered from their kids menu.
Since it has been awhile since our last visit here and we were hungry. Casual place, like a diner. It was after 1:00 pm on a Saturday. Not very busy, we were seated shortly after arriving. Very nice menu, lots to choose from, and a few items with their own twist. I went for their Honey Dijon Rueben with fries, my friend had the Mexi Chicken (can't remember exactly how it was called). My rueben was very good, just the right amount of saurkraut, and the fries were good and crunchy. My friend's lunch also looked good. Marinated chicken breast, grilled and topped with cheese served with rice, bean salad, some tortilla chips and garlic toast. My friend commented on how tasty it was. Something I think I will try on my next visit. Will be going back when in the area, and will recomend to friends.
My husband and I love going to Coquitlam Grill. The food service is always prompt and food is awesome! We tried several dishes and have not had any disappointing dishes yet. As not too many restaurants in tri-city area serves "diner" type of food, we frequent there now. The fries are excellent. I purposefully order burgers and sandwiches to get fries:-) Food never disappoints us there. Once in awhile, you get a server not attentive enough but most of the time, they are very good, too. I hope they will stay for a long time as we are not planning to move any time soon.
We often visit the Coquitlam Grill for breakfast on the weekends. There is often a waiting time which can be annoying but it says something abou the food.
I usually have the Bacon and Eggs. They make a solid breakfast and their pricing is fair. Service is usually pretty good but occasionally it has been slow. Overall really enjoy coming here for breakfast
I have driven by this place countless times but this is the first time that I tried it. It is quite a large restaurant as it was a Knight & Day for many years. There were lots of servers as it was very busy. They had lunch specials starting at $ 5.95 - $ 8.95. My order arrived in a few minutes & I noticed they were filling coffee cups for those who had ordered coffee. I would consider this to be a up scale Denny's but much better. I shall return.
Read all the reviews and every one raved about the ribs.
Sorry but this is not what I was brought up eating.
Seemed liked store bought frozen ribs & the sauce for the spaghetti was out of a can.
This is for people who have been a budget all there life and really don't know much better.
Or in other words they were raised on Kraft diner and wieners.
Service was ok, but when it came to paying the waiter hovered over our table until we finished filling in the amount and tip. MADE US FEEL UNEASY.
Keep away for this diner.
The Coquitlam Grill came highly recommended as a great restaurant in North Coquitlam. The restaurant is in a well-traveled location (Barnet Highway near Coquitlam Centre) and always has people going in and out. It seemed a good choice.
The first thing you'll notice is that the menu is way too big and varied. Ever see a 'food reality show' where a celebrity chef goes into a failing restaurant and yells about the size of the menu? I can see why now.
First off, the service is great. All of the serving staff projected a small town diner type of welcome and were very proactive about looking after their tables. We never once felt like we were being ignored, nor were we being pestered.
The decor inside leaves something to be desired. It's very dark and the various treasures hung on the wall are unremarkable and don't give a sense that they belong to any sort of theme.
The food was awful. Priced extremely well, but extremely bland. Quantity trumps quality.
We tried the calamari as an appetizer. It was so salty we could barely eat it. Texture and doneness were about right, but it was hard to get past the salty batter.
For entrées, I had a buffalo chicken burger with fries. The fries were awful - powdery and soggy at the same time. The burger itself was loaded with so much sauce and mayonnaise that the bun disintegrated after a couple of bites.
My wife ordered the lasagna. The serving was enormous (about the size of a pie tray), but the filling was mediocre. The tomato sauce tasted like it came out of a jar and there were so many noodles it was almost funny.
The restaurant has a lot of potential, but seems to be stagnant with a bad menu, bad ingredients, and cut throat prices that don't leave them with a lot of food for quality improvements. It's basically a local eatery for seniors who get the same thing every day. I'm not being ageist - we were in fact surrounded by seniors, many of whom didn't even need to tell their servers what to bring.
Only after reading all the reviews here first, I decided to give Coquitlam Grill a try. I love the show "Drivers, Dive-Ins, and Dives" so I'm always on the lookout for similar establishments in the greater Vancouver. I ordered a steak and lasagna and another meal-sized lasagna for take away. After receiving my food, I went home only to discover that I received two lasagnas but NO STEAK. I was fuming! I called the restaurant without any expectations but was relieved when the manager offered to deliver the food and reimburse me. I realize that mistakes happen, especially when you have highschool kids operating the front-end, but it's very important that the restaurant manager tries to recover the service. In my mind, the manager did recover on their mistake. Good job! I will be back to try your breakfast one day.
We've been there around 5 or 6 times now and recently for every meal (not in the same day) and every time EVERYONE loved their food. We have never walked out there unhappy and love the staff. Our waitress made sure there was another drink before one was ever empty and was very polite and attentive to every table ( it was pretty busy) I would recomend their poutine it was 3 dollars extra and extreamly worth it ..we ordered 3 different burgers and each was incredible, breakfasts have been amazing and lunch sandwhiches are excellent ( the beef dip is top of my list) Great prices great food We love them
I have eaten at this restaurant many times and after my 20th time I felt compelled to write a review. Besides having decor leftover from the 80s, this restaurant has excellent food for the money. It is a fantastic family retaurant and the food is very fresh. We love the kalamari supper and the portions are huge! The kids menu is excellent as well. This restaurant is comparable to Denny's or ABC but the food far surpasses both. I would recommend this place if your looking for a place to eat when you feel like a great homecooked meal and don't feel like cooking. It's no Earl's or Cactus Club, but then again would you bring your kids there? Another thing I always notice is that the washrooms are always clean and have just been renovated.
