Since 1984 C-Lovers Fish & Chips has been serving fish & chips and other seafood produced in their open concept kitchens. Only the best quality, freshest ingredients are used like hand selected Alaskan halibut or our locally grown farm fresh kennebec potatoes.
Greasy spoons type setting with good old fashioned fish n' chips. The batter is on the heavier side. Fish quality as well as portion size, are consistent. Fries are perfectly done. As for taste, I do find it bland compared to Go Fish, but better than Pajo's. Value is quite good as you can get a 2 piece halibut, chips, coleslaw and a bun for about $11. We normally see the same staff and the female servers are quite friendly, in a familiar welcoming kind of way. The nice lady with the Irish accent must recognize us by now. The ambiance is a bit dated. they've recently given the place a minor facelift with a fresh coat of paint, changed lighting fixtures, and added stone tiling to the front counter. I guess it looks better, however, not noticeably different. Ample parking since they're in the corner of a plaza mall.
Discovered this company initially at English Bay during the fireworks with a take out order (very good!) and when hubby had a hankering for fish and chip again, we looked them up again. We found the Coquitlam location was on our errands path and stopped in for lunch a couple of weeks ago. A small location from the storefront but spacious once you get inside with not too many tables squished together. Lots of room. It was clean and airy as well, without the heavy odor of grease hanging in the air. Nothing fancy but definitely clean and very pleasant
We opted for the $11.99 all you can eat option which comes with bottom-less pop. Quick service with a smile, even though she seemed to be the only server on at lunch time that day but you'd never know if she was stressed. She was friendly, had an easy smile on her face and didn't rush us at all. Beverages were refreshed when there was maybe 1/4 glass left and offers of more fish (and fries) when there was 1 piece left on our plates ensuring our plates and cups were never empty. We went a second time last light with a friend and even this we got there a half hour before their closing time (didn't realize they closed at 8pm), we had the same friendly service from the same server.
The fish was fresh and served piping hot,.. same with the fries, done as they're ordered. Crispy without being burnt and not dripping with oil or tasting heavy. Tartar sauce that I believe is made in-house and just yummy! The guys tore though a lot of tartar sauce with their fish and we all left with full tummies but not feeling weighted down.
Would we go again? Absolutely and I'm sure in the very near future!
We both ordered the all you can eat. After we got the drinks, the waitress came back with only 1 plate of fish n chips. The waitress said she'd get my plate soon.. I waited over 10 minutes for it. Then my partner said he'd have 3 more fish. He waited a long time for it. Then she asked me if I wanted more, I said 1 more fish with chips, she came back with 2 fish and forgot about the chips. Although it was busy, maybe it would help if she wrote down the orders...
we came here for a late dinner and seated ourselves. The service was fast and the waitress was quite friendly. We both had the all you can eat cod fish n chip dinner. There was about 5 pieces of fish with lots of fries. The fries were good and the fish was very fresh. After eating that we had another 2 more pieces of fish then couldn't eat anymore. The only thing we didn't like was having to ask for lemon. They brought us about 4 lemon SLICES, not wedges. We thought that was a bit odd. We will still return as the fish was very fresh, not dry or overcooked.
We have enjoyed the 'all-you-can-eat' cod fish and chips at C-Lovers for several years now. Always very fresh-tasting fish, and served up nice and hot.
Very crowded over lunch -- we like to get there when it first opens -- that not guarantees getting a table, but getting some of the first "piping hot & fresh" fish & chips from the kitchen!!
Fattening, deep-fried stuff, but once in a while, great lunch fare!!
Well I was absolutely starving after the Save-on-Foods Christmas baking ingredients marathon so I went to C which is conveniently almost next door. I was alone and had a lot of fun chatting up the people around me who I suspected thought I had been let out for the weekend. I asked them what they recommended, how often they came here etc. It was well worth the interviews. I ordered the North Van platter for $15.00 which came with gorgeous prawns and halibut. In spite of my relatively small size ( I am a runner ) I do eat a lot. I could Not finish this. It was delicious and predictable. Crispy fish and hot Not- soggy fries. This is Not where you come to count your calories unless you opt out for the salad and fish. ( That looked good too.) I was there at about 6:30 0n a Sat. night and the place was buzzing. If you are in the neighbourhood eat here.
I used to like this place. Last trip there found the fish and chips good as usual but the chips portion was down significantly. The coleslaw dressing had been so watered down that it was tasteless. The restaurant had a lot of ants which the owner addressed right away but come on guys pull out a vacuum once in awhile.
