Have gone here for years to have lunch. You can get two good sized pieces of cod and great fries for $ 7.95. Only one server who takes cash, makes drinks but manages to still give great service. They also do all you can eat some days as well as the regular menu. If you like cole slaw they do the best I have ever eaten. Will always return
i love this place for its coleslaw..it is made fresh for every order...as well as the buns are made fresh every day...the fish is never greasy at all. and does not have an overly thick batter.. the homemade tarter sause is also very delicious...the burgers and chinese food are not worth trying. the waitresses have been there since the beginning and are rather funny once you get to know them. it is not wonderful looking in there and could use an update, but who cares when the fish is so good
We've been here a few times and the service has always been good. We went there again tonight and ordered our usual 3pc cod dinners w/their coleslaw and fries. Since we took our 13-month old, we were wondering how it would be since it's usually busy.
Had a quick chit-chat with our server and she took our orders. Since it was an AYCE night, it was fairly busy, but we got our orders fairly quickly. I was impressed that the server asked if we'd like a kiddie plate for our daughter and when we'd mentioned that we forgot her bib, she offered one as well, which is something that's relatively new there since I've rarely since kids when we've gone in the past. The plate was a bright plastic plate and our baby had a lot of fun with it.
The food was good, as always, with the fish and chips not overtly greasy like most places and the coleslaw remains a favourite of mine since it is always made fresh and has a clean taste to it, not like a lot of places where it tastes like it was just pulled out of a jar or had been sitting on the shelf for hours. The portion size of the fish is fairly large compared to what you would get at a place in Steveston for almost half the price. Even though most people go for the fish and chips, there is a Chinese menu as well, which is decent enough to eat again.
The decor could use some up-dating as it looks as well-used, which I think is the only real drawback to this place.
Over-all a good reason why we come here often enough.
The best British-style fish'n'chips that I have found in Coquitlam and very well priced. While it looks a bit austere inside, the staff are very friendly and the food is great. The fish comes is a generous portion with a great light and firm batter - not too soggy and not too dry either. The chips are real chips! Not french fries. My wife and I also enjoy the coleslaw (especially the vinegar-based one).
Amazing cole slaw, huge portions of quality fish and chips, squeeze bottles of all the tartar sauce you want, bottomless pop, decent Chinese food (which I didn't expect at a place like this), and fast (if not always friendly) service.
But what really sets this place apart is the CD&G (Chips Dressing and Gravy). Its authentic, with the same kind of savory "dressing" (a dry mix of spice and crumbs soaked in gravy) you would find at Ches' or Scampers in St. John's NF.
Well I've been to Austin fish-n-chips a couple of times and have been satisfied with the food and the experience. I ain't looking for some sort of gourmet fish place, I want some greasy fish and chips, and that's what I get. I leave with a good full belly and stomach ache every time, but it's totally worth it. The server is very kind and treats me well. Go there.
The food is alright but the service is very hostile and unfriendly. The waitresses are rushed and cannot keep up when it's busy and they seem very very angry.I don't blame them but the owner needs to get more staff or else tell the ones he has no not to bite people's heads off for just coming in when it's busy.
Take-out is my usual choice because of the convenience. Reminds me of Saturday nights as a teen in England.
By the way the staff can't count. You order "three-piece" fish and chips, and you get four pieces of fish most times. Chips are REAL chips; thick cut and just potato - no fancy coatings.
We have, on occasion, sat down for a meal in the restaurant, and the service has been good, if a little business-like. I also have noticed that the customer demographic tends to be older - seniors seem to like it there. It's not, in my experience, a hang-out for kids. Hear that, kids? Let's keep it that way.
