Exactly what one would expect

When you're in a small tourist town, and the bulk of any restaurants extend only to a maximum of one block from the hotel, you probably would be less discriminating. Actually, this what was my friends and I were looking for, a small, no frills, local area diner.

All of us ordered the mainstay breakfast dishes: french toast, corned beef hash and a couple orders with a little bit of everything. Homestyle touch with presentation but the food did the talking. Eggs were cooked right, crispy yet not greasy rough hash and complimentary beverage topup. It was our friend's order that seemed less bang for the buck but mostly because the rest of the dishes were ample.

Very small staff manned the floor and though we beat the morning rush, it started slowing down fast as more diners shuffled in. Friendly persona made for an easy going experience but they get bogged down easily.

Small town diner meant no over the top decor. The simple, effective, unpretentious and comfortable surroundings plays on the local ambiance and it's their simplicity that gets good marks.

Disregard the numerical ratings, as rest assured this is exactly what one should be looking for when you're out of town, and they played it to the T.

Skimpy toppings and poor customer service

We ordered one of their emailed specials with mushroom & bacon. The mushrooms were extremely shriveled up and hard (must have been old), and you could count about 10 bacon "bits" on the entire large pizza. Some slices had no bacon, other slices had only 1 or 2 bits on them. We called the store to complain and a woman from the store with a thick accent answered. I told her I was calling because I was not happy with the pizza and wanted the store managers name, she said "I am the owner. We are too busy now". I asked her for her name AGAIN, and then she put me on hold. I waited about 3 or 4 minutes and hung up. They know how skimpy they are being with the ingredients and don't care. It's up to the public to stop ordering from them.

After rethinking

After rethinking my review on this restaurant, I have decided that my first review was very generous and the restaurant was not as good as I had made it sound. First, I have to say the service was still great, I just misjudged everything else. The food was good but not great. A thin omelette with two types of vegetables for $9.5 isn't the greatest deal. The portion was big, the hashbrowns were good but I could have made this at home for cheaper. Now, this was a little diner, so it's not expected to be stunning on the inside and it wasn't. That is why I give it a 2/5 for ambiance. I'm not saying that I hated this place, but I'm saying I was wrong to rate it so high last time. I might go there again in Harrison because it is still cheaper than every other restaurant, but if all the other restaurants were the same price as this, I wouldn't go here. The service was great, everything else was just okay.

It'snot on the menu , but they were very professional to make me a meal what I asked for!! very nice.. and now I been dining at the restuarant. I love the services and friendly people!! I'm a chef myself and I'll give you a lot of complements.

Finally, soul food, but it is all the way to Chilliwack. If you want to stop before or after a hike, day drive or kayak, camping etc. this is the place to really eat in Chilliwack! It could hold a torch to some restaurants in Vancouver. Verges on 5 stars if not for the low key decor, but hey its soul food and unpretentious!

Went on a nice afternoon and sat on patio which was nice.

On the way in noticed the entire kitchen staff outside smoking. This should have been a sign of things to come I think.

Inside ambiance consisted of TV blaring sports which seems to clash with their menu significantly. Trying to not be a pub but that is all it really is. The patio was nice though.

Waited well over an hour for the meal. As I was going to the bathroom after about 50 minutes the waitress asked me as I passed by her station about one of the options that I had ordered. I think she forgot the order.

When the meal arrived we were all very underwhelmed to say the least. With prices in the high teens to mid-twenties per dish we were expecting something significant, either in the way of portion size or quality. Unfortunately neither were satisfied.

The homemade fish and chips didn't really look homemade and had one very small sad piece of fish and a sea of cheap fries surrounding. Nothing else on the plate.

The wild mushroom ravioli was also a tiny portion and it tasted like my first attempt at making homemade pasta: too thick so that what you feel in your mouth is a chunk of dough instead of a fine coating. I think they need to roll the dough a little thinner!

Lastly, the half rack of ribs. This was by far the most complete meal of the bunch with a baked potato and fried veggies, but the meat was pretty sad. Very fatty, so much so that I had to leave half the plated volume on the plate.

I'm not the worlds best cook but every single item that we ordered could have been done better if I had cooked them at home myself. That to me is the mark of a poor dining experience, if you don't feel that they did anything better than you could do yourself and yet you come away paying close to $100! Stay away from this restaurant.
