I ordered pizza from here, it got here cold and the customer service team said they'd replace it and then called back 20 minutes later and said the owner of this location refused to fix the order. So now I'm out over $30 for something I won't eat. Horrible service and cold food. This location/business is NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!

Fiddlers Courtyard British Pub723 Edmonton Trail NE, Calgary
Outstanding new menu!

A friend recommended fiddlers courtyard to me. I had never heard of it before but my friend raved about the menu so I decided to try it out. Glad I did. It's rare to find this kind of quality in a pub atmosphere. I was with my friend Jeremy and we both had an appetite so we started with the deep fried bacon wrapped pickles. Coated with house made cornbread and served with a chipotle mango dip.....wow. My only regret is that now I have constant cravings for this holy union of goodness. Seriously..... Try them. We also got the appy ribs which were fresher and more tender than your regular run of the mill pub staple dry ribs. For the mains Jeremy went with a steak sandwich which was on special for 7.99 and he had nothing but good things to say about it. I will have to take him at his word as he selfishly devoured it without offering a bite. I went with the shepards pie. This was quality. The mash potatoes were clearly fresh as there was none of that browned and old tasting hard outter layer I had become accustomed too at other pubs. The meat was nicely seasoned and it came with mixed greens without a hint of wilt. It was a big portion too so I took half home and enjoyed it later. Jeremy got none of it. The new owner (Ryan) stopped to by to chat for a bit. Nice young man. I would recommend this pub to anyone. It's rare to find a pub that has such a quality focused menu. What a gem.

This place not only stole the name of an existing restaurant in downtown Calgary, but they all have horrible food.

Please don't make the same mistake I did when thinking that the delicious Aida's Bistro Downtown opened a second location, and stay AWAY!

To the owners... change your name and stop trying to piggyback off other people's hard work and success.

Although we recieved great service from opur server at this location we tried to use our Boston Pizza kids card on a Tuesday (Pasta Special Day).
Even though my wife order a pizza which was worth more than the $14.00 listed as the minimum purchase on the card the Manager said she could not give us the kids meal free because we had a Pasta Special on the bill.
Seriously any place that hard up to make up that bullcrap line won't get my business and they certainly shouldn't get yours.

I suggest the new "Swiss Chalet" that will be opening in the old "BP" location, down in Falconridge.

Thanks for nothing Boston Pizza.

Brunch anyone??

Recently was back in Calgary for my son's wedding. Last day there decided on Sunday Brunch before heading back to Vancouver....great decision! There were about 12 of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed most everything we tried. Whether you're a meat-eater of vegetarian you should find enough here to fill you up and make it worth your money too. From 2 kinds of bennys, to crispy pan-fried potatoes, mussels (not great, but fair), an omelet bar, fresh fruit trays, cheese platter and decadent breakfast pastries and a whole bunch more, there is an ABUNDANCE of choice. Fresh juices, coffee and tea....
Like french toast, check. Waffles? Check. Cinnamon buns, check, check! Not being much for sweets i stuck to the savory choices and the fruit. Very satisfying experience. I went away comfortable and knowing that if in the city on a Sunday again, i'd be game to go back. Even though i don't have a huge appetite, i still felt it was good value for the price. Good ambience and service too.

Best Chicken Wings in Calgary. And only "19 cents" on Wednesdays from 3:00 pm until 11:00 pm and all day on Sundays (with Happy hour drink pricing all day). And there were so many sauce flavors to choose from for our wings.

Can't wait to go back and try the "1 Cent Ribs" on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:00 pm until 11:00 pm.

The service from our waitress was outstanding. The drink specials we incredible. All while I watched 3 different games at once on very large, flat screen T.V.s.

I will defintely be back to this little gem of a pub.

It's a great family place or a great spot to eat before you head to a football game. The hush puppies and the deep fried pickles are awesome! Num Num

An undiscovered gem

Submitted Tuesday, February 14, 2012 - 3:08pm [Dine in]

This restaurant is tucked away in a light industrial district in the NE of Calgary, and is currently not open in the evenings. However, it is a real gem.

The food is mouth-wateringly good, and the lunchtime buffet allows for generous quantities. It is some of the best Indian food I have eaten in Calgary.

The chef and owner is remarkably friendly and kind, and sometimes brings extra items to the table that he has been working on, at no extra charge. He is always extremely keen to know that his customers are happy and satisfied, and has a big, entirely genuine smile.

The decor is attractive and tasteful, light and airy, although it leans more towards café- rather than restaurant-style, as befits the location and type of building. It has been spotlessly clean on each of the several occasions that I have visited.

Although the lunchtime buffet doesn't offer a very extensive choice, it does vary each day, and includes sides such as nan and pakora. The price is also very reasonable, and given the quality of the food represents outstanding value.

Although the restaurant is not open in the evenings, it does offer a catering service for evenings and weekends. I needed to order an evening meal for 11 people and, having enjoyed the lunchtime buffet on several occasions, I decided to ask the owner/chef what he could provide for an evening meal to take away. He immediately came up with a suggestion for a balanced selection of dishes at $12/head, and we agreed a time when I would pick it up. As we were discussing a few logistical details, he decided he would add an extra dish (pakora and chutney) at no extra cost.

When I arrived, slightly early, for pick-up, the food was all ready and carefully packed in boxes so as to preserve its heat. The owner went through everything with me one more time, to make sure I had everything I thought I had ordered, and he very kindly helped me get everything to the car, since it was snowing.

After getting home with the food, we found that all the dishes were indeed still nicely hot, and the aroma was wonderful. The food turned out to be extremely delicious, and the quantities were generous enough that there was still enough of everything left over for one more portion, even after we had all eaten our fill. Several of my guests are very discerning when it comes to Indian food, and they were full of praise for this particular meal.

The next day I received a voicemail from the owner on my cell, wanting to know if everything was to our satisfaction, and so I popped into the restaurant at lunchtime to let him know that we were very happy. We had a good visit, and I will definitely be using the special-order evening service again.

A friend recommended this place and I was not disappointed. It has a casual feel to it with mostly booth seating and a comfortable atmosphere. The bevy of young cuties they have staffing the place made a decent effort to keep us satisfied and got all the basics right. What I really like about the place is that they keep it reasonable. No outrageous wine list, daily drink specials and for Calgary, reasonable food prices. Our steaks were excellent. Good chunks of meat, cooked exactly as we requested. Didn't want asparagus with your meal? No problem. Snow peas it is. I'l definitely be back.

Expected Better

We called in advance and were told that they don't take reservations, but that it would be no problem getting in on a weekend evening between 6:30 and 7:00. To say that was misleading would be an understatement. The place was full with the usual melee in the front lobby and almost no parking left. Luckily I came in 15 minutes early at 6:45 so that limited the wait for my guest which ended up being a lengthy 50 minutes. The hostesses seemed to enjoy playing hide the reservation list so that it was never possible to actually check on progress. I sat at the bar waiting which was slightly less uncomfortable but had I known of the wait I would have left just on principle. The mixed drink I had was reasonable but the $12 wine glasses were a bit much. After being seated we naturally got a table near the entrance way so the poor location over came the average to slightly better than average ambience of the overall restaurant. This is by no means an intimate dining location. Go elsewhere if you're planning on proposing. I had a sirloin steak and my companion had the prime rib. For a steakhouse, we both were disappointed. That's not to say the food was inedible - just not steakhouse quality. The meals were presented nicely and the onion soup starter was quite nice.

Are server was pleasant and competent, but the service was a bit rushed...again, not an intimate dining experience.

Based on this one experience I would say that there are a lot of chains that will save you a few bucks and offer the same or better amenities. I've heard more than one person recommend this restaurant, so I'll give it a second chance given that there are so few decent restaurants south of Anderson, but only one more chance.

I recently returned to Calgary and it's great to see a familiar place. Smuggler's has always been the best place in town to get some prime rib, but the steaks will not disappoint either. Meals come with a trip to the soup and salad bar. I recommend the Portuguese Bean and Bacon soup. I've always had good service here with friendly, knowledgable waiters/waitresses. The decor hasn't changed in decades. You can look at that as old or 'comforting'. I choose the latter.

For food of this quality, the prices really can't be beat so I find this to be an outstanding value. If you walk away hungry, you can't blame Smug's.

Great place on a Thursday
By albertlam282 of Calgary Alberta (2 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, January 24, 2012 - 12:04am [Dine in]

This was a great place to go on a Thursday night to catch the game. No matter where you sit there seemed to be a good view of one of the many TV's in the venue. It was an upbeat environment with a traditional yet modern Irish pub theme.

We ordered a variety of the $2 basket of dry rib special, fries and a side of rich, savoury and flavourful gravy that resembled KFC gravy. For the price and the 13 flavours of ribs to choose from, you really can't go wrong. This time around the ribs were juicy and plump, not dry and chewy like many other places.

I read the reviews on this place and was surprised at the mediocre response since I had such a good experience. But I guess the success of a pub is based on how consistently they can bring customers back in and consistency is based on so many factors. The cooks, the service, as well as the number of orders running through the kitchen at one time are only a few of the factors that can make these cheap rib or wing nights a hit or a miss. From my experience working as a cook in a fast paced pub environment, just a few extra minutes in the fryer can change any food item from juicy and crispy to dry and crunchy.

I can't speak for all the food items on the menu, but as far as what we ordered, everything turned out really well. I would recommend trying out Tipperary's, especially on a Thursday.

We came as a large group, as we always do. Our waitress refused to split the billl. The total did not seem correct. When asked why we couldn't split the bill the waitress had attitude with my uncle. We eat there a lot and this has never been an issue before to split the bill. We had more people join the table later on and she had no problem doing up a different bill then. We were there from 7 PM until 9 PM. I tried to order drinks a few time yet only got 3 drinks the whole night. The place was not very busy. The waitress had lots of time to socialize with her co workers but did not have the time to give us proper customer service. I work in the customer service industry and the lady who served us was an insult to the industry.

The food is not bad, but portions are small for what you pay. What really irks is the consistently bad service. I once waited 45 minutes for a last dish and asked the waitress if I could cancel it if it's not yet prepared. She said it's coming and you can't cancel, rush, or complain about a dish.

The owners only see $$$ signs in front of them and do not give care if you return or not. Also, the servers do not get a share of the tips here. The owner keeps it all.
