The title says it all. Bowness used to be so great...the food was amazing but this time around it is sup-par. I had heard about things going downhill here, but didn't expect it to be so.
Wait times are ridiculous, even though me and my friends arrived rather quickly and knew exactly what to order, our order took forever to come. One hour! And when the waitress brought our order, she even mixed up one of our orders and didnt even appologize when she tried to charge us for it. Seriously? How do you guys stay in business!?!?
Evidently, the staff at the North Haven CDD have no clue about customer service. They write the phone number down wrong, take 3 hours to deliver a pizza and blame it on the customer!!! It's bad enough that the pie took 3 hours but then to blame the customer (especially after catching them in a lie) is unbelievable. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. You will regret it.
I have not yet had the chance to eat at Avec café, however I did have the pleasure of meeting Kirk Shaw, one of the proprietors on a recent occasion, and wanted to comment on his ‘east coast charm’ that is mentioned in his bio on their website, and subsequently why I will not be dining there, as well as why you also should avoid it. I am a university student going on to do a Master’s Degree in September, and have been working across the street at the liquor store for a little over a year now….a few months ago, Kirk tried to use the AGLC to target us based on a prejudice he holds about a number of our customers (in plain terms he has a grudge against homeless people because he believes they hurt his business). Recently he tried again by coming into my place of work, and snapping photos of me serving a client who has lost a great deal of his motor skills (speech and walk). For him, this was the easiest way to get the store in trouble (and myself) for serving intoxicated patrons (which we do not). Despite my trying to explain to him the client’s physical capacity, he basically shouted at me, snapped his pictures (which were illegal to take in nature in this instance), and walked off. Personally I found it stunning and extremely disrespectful that the owner of a respected establishment would behave in such a child-like manner. First of all, he chose to sneakily target the only regular customer we have who would appear intoxicated if one had not ever exchanged words with him, secondly, to date there has not been an actual conversation requested or had between himself and anyone at my place of work, and finally, he went about his business by attacking my own right to privacy at work, despite my attempt to calmly explain the situation he was witnessing… Again not to mention that I’m just a part-time student employee trying to support my schooling. Kirk has basically been throwing a tantrum and attacking the easiest targets. I wrote about this because I personally don’t feel he deserves to be supported by us in any way if this is how he goes about dealing with his grievances… If you’re sitting at one of his tables and likely to spend a handsome sum on a meal and some wine then I’m sure he’ll show you some of that ‘east coast charm’, however if he has taken any issue with you, it is unlikely he will act in any respectful adult manner.
We walked in as a party of 6 at 6pm. After being passed by several times by 3 staff members we had to prompt them for a wait time, at which point we got a rude response telling us that it would be "45mins to 1 hr and the other 4 tables are reserved for 6pm". We said we would gladly wait & found seats at the bar.
After waiting 45 mins we were never served, nor spoken to again & when we walked out at 6:45pm the reserved tables were still sitting there empty!
This pub clearly does not need, nor want your business.
Would not recommend this pub to anyone.
Ok so I never pay the delivery driver 'ENOUGH' tips and the chinese man rudely said 'next time DO NOT ASK ME TO DELIVER ANYTHING, U GO PICK UP YOURSELF' (and yes this is for real, he clearly said that).
The price is already increased when you order a delivery anyways. The restaurant offer 10% off for pick up orders. Will never return and I highly recommend no one in the neighborhood buy their food either.
Their food is actually not really that good, price is expensive comparing to other restaurant, but I'm mostly just lazy and order take out.
Hope everyone read this review and will re-consider it before stopping by at this restaurant.
The owners and all the staffs that work at this restaurant have an attitude problem and tend to look down on customers who dress not so nice or according to them didn't pay enough tips. They made their customers line up at the door like they are begging for food, because they are so cheap to have enough servers on for the shift.
Came here for the first time and absolutely loved it. Our server was extremely attentive and knowledgeable on each menu item and wine on the wine list so it made our first dining experience there very enjoyable. I will definitely recommend it to all of my friends and colleagues and will definitely be back in the near future!
The Osteria has top notch food and top notch service. It's a little piece of Italy for us to enjoy here in Calgary. Their stampede events are also a little more unique and a great environment for companies to come and host clients. We had previously rented a VIP cabana, were given our own private bartender, and amazing food. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed the many faces of the Osteria in Kensington.
My wife and I ate at Teaspoon tonight, for the first time. It is a tiny, family-run restaurant with nice decor. We were warmly greeted by the husband and wife proprietors. The service was efficient and fast. The food was a wonderful blend of sweet and savoury. I had Fesenjon, meatballs in a ground walnut and pomegranate syrup sauce, My wife had the lamb shank, which literally fell off the bone. The entrees were served with a fresh and crisp house salad with a light yogurt, dill(?) and mint dressing, and a bed of saffron basmati rice.
The Persian tea, with cardamon and mint was exquisite.
Do not order from these guys, they do not cut their veggies they will give you a whole half onion and large pieces of carrot and green pepper, you cant chew on a half onion, and they give no meat none!!! I had to chop food at home just so I could chew on the food. This is the worst review I have had to write about any chinese in calgary or any chinese in my life!!! The reception girl said thats how they make food, lazy cooks! no effort and bad taste! Worst place ever I am never going back.
I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant this past Friday.. My husband and I had our 30 year anniversary.. He had the veal Osteria and I had the seafood linguine which was out of this world.. The waiter made a superb wine recommendation and at the end of the dinner they presented a lovely piece of tiramisu dessert on the house in congratulations of our success. Thank you Osteria for making our evening special.
TERRIBLE SERVICE. Five of us ordered the lunch box during lunch. waited for 50 minutes before part of the food (plain rice and salad) arrived at our table. We had to take everything to-go. The server never bothered to drop by and apologize for the bad service. DO NOT TRUST all the positive review here for Hokkaido. Avoid at all cost!! For the same price, you can get way better food and service else where!
When I go out in Calgary for dim sum, at certain times I do expect to wait. Yesterday however the seating host at the Forbidden City Restaurant was blatantly letting in certain groups that appeared to know her. We seen several groups arrive after us, yet they were allowed to go in ahead of us. Even after the seating host told us we would be next, several more groups (4) were allowed in ahead of us. So I waited until after our meal to talk to the manager and let him know what was going on. Before I could finish, the manager cut me off and gave me his prefab, canned explanation that was irrelevant to what I was saying. I waited until the manager finished talking and tried to explain again, but he would never let me finish what I was saying. I found this quite rude for a manager. Regarding the food, it used to be very good, but now it is only average at best, there are several places in town that are much better. The service was totally ruined by the seating host and manager, the waiters however were pleasant. The Value has gone down hill, it seems to me that the prices have gone up here considerably since we started coming here several years ago, more so than at other dim sum places we like. Ambiance, well I'm not sure if you've been to a chinese dim sum place before, but ambiance seems to be the last thing they worry about, it is very noisy, has weird odours and seating is very tight, but I knew that before I came, so I'm not complaining about that, just saying for anyone that's never been.
I'm afraid that yesterday's experience will be my last at this restaurant, it's too bad because we've been going here for several years. It used to be one of the best dim sum places in Calgary, but there are many better options now.
I very seldom submit a review, but felt obligated to submit one after our experience. I found a coupon for this restaurant, so decided to check it out with my two sons. My initial impression upon walking in, was sparse decor, bordering on depressing, but I was here for the food, and understood they were new. The trouble started immediately, warm water with no ice, and then was followed by our waitress coming back to inform us that the appetizers we had chosen, were not available. Neither were our second or third choices. They were out of 3/4 of the appetizers on the menu at 5:30 p.m.
We ordered the charred vegetables, which were delicious, but portions were small.
Our waitress returned to tell us they were out of lamb, which eliminated our main course choices. I switched to the beef tajine, and my sons ordered the platter. It was an hour and a half before my meal came. It was delicious but very small. I was literally finished in 20 bites ( had to get more to eat after we left ). I was finished eating, 10 minutes before my son's meals showed up, 1 3/4 hours after ordering. The portion size here was better, and the food was tasty. While waiting for our food, the restaurant became hazy with smoke from the kitchen, and though we asked for forks and napkins, they never came, so I got up to get them myself, so my boys could eat.
Conclusion: Food is tasty, menu items are not all there, some portions are small, service is spotty and the wait time horrible.
Well where to begin. We just went there tonight (Wing Wednesday) Walked in at about 6pm and there were maybe 5 tables of people in there (not very busy at all) with two waitresses and one bartender. It took about 15 minutes to just get our menus and then another 15 minutes to get 2 beers and a club soda (there were three of us eating). Then after another 15 minutes we finally got to put in our order. After about 30 more minutes we finally got our wings which were on the cold side. Our waitress kept apologizing saying they were so swamped and busy and had no manager and the bartender and her were both new. Whatever. Even if its your first shift get your shit together. There was absolutely no excuse for her not using a tray and walking one drink at a time to everyones tables and literally throwing our wings on the table not telling us which flavour was which. The bartender disappeared and rarely made an appearance and when she did she never was pouring drinks. When our wings came we ordered another round and it took over 30 minutes to get it. We were basically done eating at that point and ready to explode. We were also given no napkins (its wings so its pretty much a given that we will be needing them) and my cousin asked for hot sauce which the waitress never brought so my cousin walked up to the kitchen to get it herself and us some napkins. At the end we had to go up to get our bills because she obviously wasn't going to bring them (should have just left without paying...they probably wouldn't even have noticed). Everyone in there either was leaving because they weren't getting waited on or had to go up to the bar or the kitchen to get anything that they wanted. Friggen Ridiculous! Then when we all get our bills they charged me $2.50 for EACH GLASS OF CLUB SODA! SERIOUSLY!! I was the DD so I wasn't drinking. I have NEVER been to a bar where i was the DD and had to pay for my pops or club soda ever and I can understand charging once and giving free refills but for each one?!?!?! SOme broad was up there when we went to pay and she was all like "I even had to come in on my day off because its so busy" Umm it wasn't busy at all! I was a bartender for 2 years at one of the busiest bars in town and we always pulled it together and got everyone their stuff on time! Learn to use a tray and learn to get your shit together! Don't give me some sob story about how you haven't gotten to go pee in an hour you seriously had like 5 tables to deal with all of which only had like 2 or 3 people at them...and for frig sakes get a better bartender! It would take literally 30 seconds for her to pour our three drinks...if you are a bartender then STAY AT THE BAR! Don't be going in the back constantly or be on the phone...seriously! I don't ever write reviews...this is honestly my first one because I was that disgusted in this place. We live super close and wanted to have my birthday there so wanted to try out the food before we had a party with 15+ people and trust you me we will NEVER GO THERE AGAIN! They missed out on a lot of money for years to come because of this. Train your staff properly and if it is a night like wing night don't have 2 brand new girls who have no friggen idea what they are doing and no manager or anyone else experienced...its called management for a reason....ok this has gone on long enough but seriously NEVER EAT THERE!!

Eight of us went there last night - about a $400.00 tab only to be ruined by a shrieking 2-year old. None of the management or staff would say anything to the parents of the infant and it was a TERRIBLE experience. I would equate it to going to Chuckie Cheese. (This was at 8:00 p.m., by the way.) COMPLETELY MISMANAGED by the staff whose goal it should be to satisfy ALL of the patrons. For the $400.00+ that we paid, the food was overdone, the salad bar was mediocre, and I had to ask one of the staff to please check the pile of plates because many of them still had food on them (disgusting). The money would have been better spent at a more professional ADULT restaurant.
I can not really believe it, the food was served today was maybe one week old sushi from fridge, and
Teriyaki chicken shrimp was disgustingly untasty
People were waiting on a long line, And they serve terrible food, I had to through into garbage, never will eat there again. I do like Edo's food, but this location was terrible.
This New Year we had an opportunity to go to Muse for their 98/per person special. All I can say is wow, was it NOT worth it. The food although laid out nicely on the plate was bland at best, and being kicked out after 2 hours despite spending nearly 800.00 including drinks for the evening was a bitter pill to swallow. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I most definitely won't be going back.
With the latest changes the new management is doing a great job of converting the place into a local hangout joint. Famous for its goat curry which peoe come for repeatidly.
Very nice place for lunch in the business park.
Dinner take out is beneficial.
Overall a very nice indian restaurant for the foothills business park and for adjoining communities like Erin woods, Meckenzie town and copperfield.
I gave this to go restaurant one more chance. I just moved into the area and always used the dairy queen close to my old address. Both times they've done the orders wrong. Gave them one more chance today. I should have known while they were opening and closing the hamburgers with their bare hands multiple times that they didn't know which was which.
I made a point of asking the lady that I didn't see the onion rings, she advised they were in the box. Nope not in box, plus 4 hamburgers 2 were wrong.
I finally called and complained. She said "I just seen the box I do nothing wrong". That is where you are wrong, the MacDonalds across the street is so busy, not because it's cheap but because everyone in the neighborhood comments on how many times they can get a wrong order at this Dairy Queen.
I will never be back.
