I recently returned to Calgary and it's great to see a familiar place. Smuggler's has always been the best place in town to get some prime rib, but the steaks will not disappoint either. Meals come with a trip to the soup and salad bar. I recommend the Portuguese Bean and Bacon soup. I've always had good service here with friendly, knowledgable waiters/waitresses. The decor hasn't changed in decades. You can look at that as old or 'comforting'. I choose the latter.
For food of this quality, the prices really can't be beat so I find this to be an outstanding value. If you walk away hungry, you can't blame Smug's.
Recently was back in Calgary for my son's wedding. Last day there decided on Sunday Brunch before heading back to Vancouver....great decision! There were about 12 of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed most everything we tried. Whether you're a meat-eater of vegetarian you should find enough here to fill you up and make it worth your money too. From 2 kinds of bennys, to crispy pan-fried potatoes, mussels (not great, but fair), an omelet bar, fresh fruit trays, cheese platter and decadent breakfast pastries and a whole bunch more, there is an ABUNDANCE of choice. Fresh juices, coffee and tea....
Like french toast, check. Waffles? Check. Cinnamon buns, check, check! Not being much for sweets i stuck to the savory choices and the fruit. Very satisfying experience. I went away comfortable and knowing that if in the city on a Sunday again, i'd be game to go back. Even though i don't have a huge appetite, i still felt it was good value for the price. Good ambience and service too.
