if I could give zero stars I would. This review is based solely on customer service & honesty of the company. We gifted a groupon to my parents (2 senior citizens) & the manager would not honour their valid groupon- after some debate & unnecessary humiliation to the customers they were turned away. Please save your money & do not buy a groupon for this venue.
Love this pub! Friendly staff, daily food specials, and Live Bands on weekends. The atmosphere is very friendly and they have lots of T.V.'s for sports. They have some VLT's in the back for those who are trying towin some extra money, an ATM and a juke machine. New menu was just announced! The food is delicious and well presented. Great place for good people and great food.
Delhi Darbar hits the mark.
I love East Indian food and thought Vancouver's VJ's was going to be the standard by which to judge others. Not so: pretentious, cramped, small servings of incredibly average tasting food. Look for the hole in the wall places is what I learned, as they usually put a heck of a lot more effort into their food and service as their livelihoods depend on it. Please give Delhi Darbar a try.
After parking at the rear of the restaurant for FREE, we were greeted by our soft spoken and attentive host. Really pleasant without trying too hard.
The décor is nothing spectacular, but it is obviously well cared for and CLEAN. Chairs, table tops and floors didn't give me the urge to reach for hand sanitizer. Nice. Not usually the case for buffet joints just after the initial lunch hour rush.
Buffet (also spotless) was full of a GREAT ASSORTMENT OF MEAT AND VEGETARIAN DISHES. I tried them all and loved that each was distinctive in flavor (not just the same curry blend dish after dish). Order extra naan bread, as this is some of the best I've tried - light, browned to perfection and topped with delicious ghee. And they don't serve plain old rice, this was actually spiced saffron rice - fantastic.
Leave room for rice pudding - light, lovely spices without being overbearing and thankfully restrained on the sweetness. Mango lassi equally delicious.
Please give this one a try. It's near 16th Ave/Centre street and 16th/Edmonton Trail so near good thoroughfares. Watch carefully as the frontage isn't easy to spot.
Will come back as often as I can, as will the couple I dined with.
I had always my pizza at this place, fast and efficient all the time, very cool and very clean store. Crew are very welcoming and provides great service. Pizza is done right in front of you, very fresh. Will always keep on coming back to this place, awesome service and great food, kudos!
If only I knew this restaurant was operating in a completely illegal health environment, I would NOT have come here with my family. If you look this restaurant up, it is not their FIRST OFFENCE to have been reported by consumers of their dirty dishes and food. CHECK THE REVIEWS! When a complaint is made, the OWNER DISAPPEARS and we are left to deal with their RUDE servers, who completely disregards their customer's health and even goes as far as SAYING IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM that their dishes are filthy. When told we are going to report them to the HEALTH INSPECTOR, they practically laughed at the idea. THIS RESTAURANT SHOULD BE BANNED AND ASHAMED FOR OPERATING IN SUCH A SHADY BUSINESS! Now that I think about it, this place used to be Singapore Sam until they got FINED like crazy for the same reasons stated above and then they just popped under a different name. Wow.
This establishment has finally pressed on my last nerve. I was appalled today by the way the owner treated my friend and our two 1 year old boys. We came in to get a coffee and escape the rain. Our first impression was friendly and we received our coffee and muffin without any delay. It was when we turned around to take a seat that we were told we couldn't sit there as we were in the way of the counter and furthermore we had ordered take away coffees. We were surprised and sputtered that we weren't staying for very long. Fine fine she said. We sat down and pulled out some snacks for the little ones and began to drink our coffee. At this point she snapped at us that we were not allowed to bring any outside food and beverage into her restaurant as it is against Alberta health services. In fact we can't bring in our own water. This was news to me! We asked to have our coffees returned since we obviously weren't welcome and she said of course not because we had taken a sip of our drink. It was then that we left and let her know that we wouldn't be back as her customer service is beyond undesirable. I am disappointed that the owner chooses to treat her customers this way. I will drive out of my way to get coffee from now on.
Pie Cloud is a slice of diner heaven. It has a welcoming, charming atmosphere and it serves up excellent homemade food. Everything is made fresh at this diner. While visiting Pie Cloud during opening week, one of us had an unbeatable club sandwich (wish I took a picture... coming soon). It was so good that we returned the next day for another!
The menu offers a good mix of upscale diner classics (burgers, chicken & waffles, meatloaf and chili), and a wide selection of sweet and savory pies. The pies are amazing and the diner's prices are reasonable. It's nice that you can take home a slice of pie, or even a whole pie, if you don't have room for dessert while you're there. We shared a slice of warm apple pie with ice cream... heavenly!
We predict Pie Cloud will be a new favorite diner for Calgarians and a popular spot for travelers. The owner is a Calgarian who has designed a great space and the entire place is kept very, very clean.
It's the best of what everyone wants when they go out for dinner, lunch or breakfast -- great food, great value and great service. We'll be back again and again.
P.S. - see the breakfast menu - all looks Yummmmmmm
Wow, this place definitely gives all the Malaysian places in Vancouver a run for their money. This place was so good I ended up eating here thrice on my short trip to Calgary. I usually never repeat unless I am hooked (which in this case I was).
The only problem I had was that they would not open on the times they said they would, (it would have been four times instead of three if it weren't for that). I later found out it was because they run out of food, but I still didn't see that as a good enough reason. Minus 1 star for that. The Nasi lemak & curry chicken had me hooked.
Wish they would open in BC!
La Brezza was a great little find here in Calgary! I was actually surprised as to why this place has gotten no reviews!? Anywho, it was a suggestion-based lunch (again) because of our lack of experience here in Calgary, and being all touristy, we had no other choice but to ask.
Luckily we struck gold. The restaurant itself is actually quite small, but cozy nonetheless. It looked like former, remodeled house, which did add to the look of a true Italian restaurant. Lunch began with some calamari, which turned out to be really good. The waiter actually suggested us this one. I think he could see the worried look on our faces. I had the carbonara (don't remember the full name - excuse my bad memory and poor Italian) and it has excellent. It actually had chunks of bacon in it. The wine that came with it was perfect, and ended up paying the fair amount for the delicious meal. We actually missed coming here a second time! If only.
The hotel concierge where we were staying at recommended us this place and said it was one of the best Indian restaurants in town. Now, I don't know about Calgary's Indian restaurant, but I just found the food to be okay. There was definitely an attempt to make different types of Indian food, which is nice to see every once in a while, but I was not very satisfied.
We had the vegetable samosas, chilli pakoras as apps, followed by butter chicken (duh), vegetable curry, eggplant dish, lamb kofta and fish curry. Hell yeah we were hungry. It was a combination of hits and misses, deep mish with the butter chicken though, which wasn't well received by my group. The samosas were not okay, which was a pitty as they tasted kind of soggy. Service was average and the prices were so too, so no complaint there, but was expecting a little better.
I guess I should not have increased my expectations so much. That way, I could have enjoyed the meal better.
We came here in 1st week of December for my birthday dinner. For a week night, we still were made to wait a while. When seated, I noticed that the dinning hall was partially filled. Did not really get the reason for delaying our seating. Maybe lack of servers. Our server was rushed and abrupt, without offering us any suggestions. The starters arrived 30 minutes AFTER ordering.. while the kid's meals were at around 40 minutes! I kept telling the server to hurry up the kid's meal, but they came with main meal. The meal was NOT at all good and as par of the usual dinning experience that I had of Chili's in Banff before. I had to keep searching for the server to ask for napkins, cutlery, and refills. Our dinner became a drag, as it took us 2 hours to have a fast food meal! I would NOT recommend this place at all, and will not be coming back.
These guys are incredibly rude when you have a complaint. Their mobile website does not state pizza sizes and they claim that a large is a 12" pizza when most other places would consider that a medium. When i complained he told me that there was nothing wrong my the order and that I was at fault not him. We paid 37 dollars plus tip expecting two large pizzas but in return received two medium pizzas a bad taste in our mouths.
Good eat and great service.
A little bit of the Island flavour right here in Calgary.
Truly a great experience.
The blend of spices is masterful and the food is like a party in your mouth.
Would recommend to all food lovers, this is the place to get your Jamakin on.
The warm inviting experience almost makes you forget that it is winter outside.
Lack of interest for customers.
Impersonal and rude. Poor attitude.
Extremely bad service. Would never recommend.
Lack of interpersonal skills. Poor management. Badly run.
The worst experience, ever. Keep away, unless you also want bad service and rude experience.
The experience was bad enough that it warranted writing about it and letting everyone know about my dislike for the place.
Im not sure why but this location is way more expensive for a hell of a lot less food. The service is still good but i dont know why people have to change a good thing. I dont see this location lasting very long. I think ill just stick to the 52nd and 17th ave location from now on.
I am so tired of talking to Calgary Castleridge pizza store ... Couple weeks back I order my food from Castleridge Pizza Hut in Calgary and it didn't turn up nice as it was burn and not fresh so I spoke to general manager of store who issued $20 credit to me. Today I call to use my credit and order more but I was told there is no credit issue at all. Such a liars !!!!
I usually come here for dates, but came here the other night with my family. We were a group of 7 total with my sister's fiance and had a reservation but still had to wait to be seated, despite calling beforehand and arriving on time. I love Italian food, and so does my mom, so we decided to stick around.
The service was extremely slow, and the waiters did not seem to be very engaged or interested. Usually I don't care, but for the occasion and prices we were paying, I expected more. This Italian was always slow but this time it left me disappointed. The food was alright, but my linguine pescatore was a little off. There was very little shrimp and the mussels were so-so.
Cerezo cafe and bar is the perfect little cutesy place for japanese fusion-style tapas. I love coming here because there is a very comfortable, kind of homey vibe to it. The restaurant is a formerly old house that has been turned into a business. You don't feel like you are dining at a restaurant here, but rather at a friend's place....or your own home if you like. The waiters always stop by and make sure you're fine and understand what you have ordered.
The good vibe of the place also oozes through to the food. Each plate is made with utmost care; I often feel a little pained at having to eat food that looks like a piece of art. They have the best toro sashimi I have tried, and their negi miso beef doesn't disappoint as well. The desserts, however, are the winners. There is not one dessert I have tried which I have not liked, but my favorites are the carrot cake and or anything with chocolate in it (chocolate Mousse Cheesecake, etc).
Like Maurya. I consider myself to be a fairly regular at their lunch buffets because they actually serve good food., unlike other indian restaurants that offer buffets. But seriously, their take out left much to be desired. They let me down. I ordered early but nonetheless my food took forever to come. I called to check whether they had forgotten or something and they just said it should be on its way. Seriously?!? No sorry nothing. The jhinga vindaloo was way too spicy despite me ordering a mild or medium.
Mercatos is one of those pricey restaurants in the city, but I don't say that to complain. It is definitely worth it. I have been coming here for years and it has consistently been a reference for its good quality of food and service. So it has gained itself the reputation for being expensive, in my opinion. I can come here when it is busy or kind of empty (because it is never empty, getting a reservation is a problem) and still get the best of the service. The waiters are extremely polite and very well-trained to handle huge numbers of people.
I usually come to mercatos for lunch. Their pastas are very yummy and fresh, be it the gnocchi or the risotto. Or the bistecca. All with a good glass of wine of course!
