I came with friends of mine the other day to try the best pizza in town. I was no disappointed, I ordered the chicken souvlaki and my friends shared a large burnaby heights pizza. The taste was incredible and the portion was huge. The decor is dim but there is a candle lit fireplace for the soothing relaxing romantic feel? Will be sure to bring my girlfriend here for a date next time!!
Under new ownership as of about 2 years ago the Lost in The 50's Drive-In has great food and is open year round. If you love a good burger joint you need to check this place out. The staff always greet you with a smile and the fries are true fresh cut fries!
Horizons has a special promotion on for the month of March. The Chef's Table D'Hote, a three course dinner for $35. You have a choice of three appy's, 4 entrees and three desserts . The food was excellent. At our table we enjoyed the chicken and barley soup, the gulf Island Mussels and clams followed by the Pork Tenderloin and the New York Steak. For dessert crème brule and cappuccino cheesecake.
Service was attentive and you have a lovely view. You need reservations. They run promotions several times a year and it gives you a chance to enjoy a fairly expensive restaurant at a more reasonable price. Check the website.
We used to go to this place with former friends and consistently was let down by the quality of food that was not hot. The desserts reminds me of college/university quality food that filled your belly but was nothing to write home about and recommend. Their fried chicken was good (not hard to mess up fried chicken) and some pasta otherwise it failed. If people want cheap eats and to chow down like there is no tomorrow, hit this place but if they want better then look around.
Not one to usually complain , this is the second time lately ordering from here , the food was worse than reheated mall food fare Chinese... Not the Ming Kee I used to know ... Will not order again. Items ordered were sweet and sour pork , Szechwan chicken, hot and sour soup(which was good),and steamed rice. This isn't the hot and fresh cooking I used to get from here.
A few of my friends and I went to the movies at Tinsel Town, but for some reason decided to come to Metro Town after the movie. We came and hung around the mall and were trying to decide what to eat. We finally decided on this place.
We were seated immediately (no problem) another friend came to the restaurant to join us. I was thinking of doing AYCE, but most actually didn't want to do AYCE, so I was ok with A La Carte. Anyways, for my meal, I ordered a dynamite roll and two California rolls. I had asked the waitress to bring some mayonnaise. I had to flag her and a couple other waitresses in order to get my mayonnaise (and it came in a bowl with minimal amount (are you serious?) again, I had to flag down a couple of waitresses to get mayonnaise.
Anyhow, the rest of the food wasn't really all that great , I mean it was barely passable, but can't say that I really liked it all that much. Another friend of mine was complaining about something, but I wasn't paying much attention to that.
I don't really see myself coming back here anytime soon
This is one of my favourite discoveries in Burnaby. It has great food and a quirky atmosphere. Great place to meet up with friends and enjoy good sushi. The staff are always friendly and the service is fantastic. Lunchtime can get pretty busy - so either go here for an early or late lunch to avoid the rush hour. Love the action figures!
My family was over for my birthday. It was disappointing to find out that my mother had asked the staff to make it a special event for me, but least did the RR staff care!! Forget making it a celebration, they would take forever to serve us our lunch and coffee!! I would not recommend the Burnaby branch - especially if you are celebrating.
Having been to the Old Little Billys I was looking forward to dining at the new location. It had been many years and I had fond memories of the food and service.
The new location is nice to look at but right away we noticed the service to be lacking. No warm greeting or smiles. We also noticed that the plates on our table were chipped and there were plastic table covers and paper napkins. Definitely a 3 dressed up as a 9!
When we asked about the steak and lobster special our server said "its steak & lobster.... I don't know what else to tell you....."
The appetizers were escargot and crab stuffed mushroom caps....fair at best. Our server did not come check on us or ask us how we enjoyed it and said nothing as she cleared our plates. In fact she had little to say at all.
Our mains were a very nice lobster fettuccine, tasty and good size portion and a very grisly tough rib-eye steak with an under cooked baked potato. I was very disappointed with the steak for $31. Again there was no check in from our server and I had to flag her down to get a drink refill. After we finished eating we sat 10 minutes with dirty plates on our table before walking to the till to get our check. I was surprised to see a $3 charge to sub our house salads for Caesar salad even though they were the same price on the menu and our server said nothing about the extra charge.
All in all a very sad time and one we will not be repeating!
We really hoped to have a great experience matching some of the other reviews here but that was not the case. we will not be back nor could we ever recommend this restaurant to others.
If we're talking strictly about food, this place is great. If we add in service and overall experience, I have to say it is one of the worst experiences I have ever encountered.
As I have been avoiding meat, I had researched vegetarian restaurants and in Burnaby. Even though this is a bit out of the way for me, I made a special trip here to try out some vegan pho.
As a solo diner walking in to a crowded room nearing the end of the lunch rush, all tables were filled and so I waited at the door, expecting a friendly greeting and was ready to wait for an empty table. I got a look from the server who then quickly went to the back and didn't come out for about a minute or so. After awkwardly waiting at the door, I went to the counter to let her know I was there. I was abruptly told to wait until there was a free table. I had to ask for a menu and I was sitting at the heightened table facing the window (presumably for those waiting for take out or for people who want a view of the strip mall parking lot).
I would not have minded sitting there even though a group had left the table right beside me and for the half hour or so that I was there waiting (whether for a table or for the food I decided to take out), the table was left empty and not cleaned. I waited for the woman to take my order which she didn't so I once again had to get up, pass the empty table with dirty dishes and tell her that I wanted take out instead. She didn't try to direct me to that empty table or the couple of other ones that soon became empty as people left but she just took the order. So I waited again, almost embaressingly waiting for my take out as more tables became free but were left uncleaned. I even had to ask for the tea that would have come with the meal I had wanted to eat there.
I could hear her apologizing to other guests that they had to wait so long for their food as I sat waiting for my take out. So it also surprised me that when she finally came over with my take out food (and I was starving at this point), she didn't say sorry and just gave me my food.
So sure, the vegan beef pho was delicious and fresh tasting. The vegan pork roll and sauce were also delicious. Unfortunately when asked about this place, all I can tell people about is the poor service.
So, this was a third time going to this restaurant. The first two times were dine in. It really is a nice looking restaurant, but service is usually very slow so we weren't sure if we would be returning for dine in. We signed up for their email list thing anyways.
My girlfriend received a Happy Birthday email with a $25 offer (*Come join us at Cotto and purchase an Entree at regular price and enjoy your second Entree, of equal or lesser value, with our compliments. (up to $25 value) So, I order a bunch of food and we go in to pick it up thinking that it would be fine to show it on my phone. The email didn't say anywhere that we would need to print it out.
So, we show up and the first waitress asks to see the email. She takes my phone to show the manager way over on the other side of the room then goes around asking some other staff. Then says that I have to forward the email to them so that they can print it out. So I email them... wait 10 minutes. They ask for another email... I send it again... and another after 5 minutes.
My girlfriend was getting very irritated as she was hungry and waiting for over 30 minutes just to use this coupon promotion. My girlfriend said to the waitress that we shouldn't have to wait this long just to use their promotion. The waitress just made up an excuse, stating that it wasn't her fault because she didn't make the promotion rather than just apologizing.
Our food was good, but older/colder from waiting and waiting.
SHORT STORY: It was a nice promotion, but it was so poorly handled. We had to over 30 minutes to get the staff to talk to each other and figure out how to use their own promotion and forward them their own email multiple times so that we could pay for the food with the discount. All that waiting just made our food 30+ minutes older/colder.
I would really like to love this restaurant because it's so close to where we live, it's a cool looking place to hang out, and the foods not bad either, but the service is just so disorganized that it hurts my brain.
I really don't want to go back there.
We had dinner here with some old friends. I heard some good reviews of the place, i agree with those good reviews. We ordered a bunch of stuff bento box, kiwi roll, chicken karage, oysters, unagi, tako, ebi. Everything was very good, service was good the kiwi roll was fabulous, i would try that one again. unagi was delicious. A friend we were with was trying some of the more adventurous items for the first time and he was pleasantly surprised how tasty it was. I'm glad i helped open the door to trying some more unique unusual foods for him. I would go back.
Had a date night with my hubby. First one in a while, so we wanted to try out someplace new to us. He was craving Greek, so we decided to try this place out. We have friends who liked it, so that was a good reason to go.
When we got there we were greeted by a very friendly seating hostess and seated by the window. Loved the ambience of the place and the decor was nice. We ordered Horiatiki (Tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, green peppers, olives, smothered with grated feta cheese then finished with olive oil & oregano. Served with pita.) to start and the Paros Platter, but because of my allergies got the prawn souvlaki swapped with the lamb souvlaki, no issues.
The Horiatiki was lovely. While waiting for our main course to arrive, I got an emergency call to work, so I had to leave. When I got back (roughly 45min later) my husband had everything packed, ready to go, but I didn't want our date night to end just yet. Our waitress overheard us and offered to re-warm my plate for me. I accepted the offer. I noticed that there were a bit more on the warmed plate than when it was in the to-go box, which was also very nice.
The food was good, very fresh, but a bit over-priced for what you got. But the service was what stood out for me. I'll be back!
It's just what you expect the moment you walk in the door. I should have known better the moment I saw this very run down and dirty place from the inside. Greasy and disgusting, If you really want this type of food go to a food court and at least you can be somewhat sure it's fresher than here. Customer service is not so good either. I wonder if they even wanted me in there. The guy behind the counter took about 5 mins to take my order. I wouldn't have minded so much but the longer I was in there the more I saw and realized just how poorly this place was taken care of. I ordered a two item dinner and couldn't even stomach eating eat. First and last time I will ever go there!
I used to go here regularly when I lived in the area. Their pho is really good, and their pho ga is the best I've had so far and I've been to a lot of pho/vietnamese restaurants. The service is exceptional, but come with cash, they only take cash. A few nights I have gone there but the bank was closed so I couldn't take out cash, they were nice enough to tell me just to pay the next time I come in. Hard to find service and staff that value their customer's like that!
“Eat it and get out!”
I hope to be very fair in this review. I used to be a frequent customer of sushi town's because it was cheap and relatively fast. However, I will stop going to sushi town all together because of their poor customer service. This is terrible service, the worst I have ever experienced. I arrived in the restaurant and was seated immediately. Great... My friend shortly joined me and we chatted a bit until we ordered. I ordered first 1 item and then my friend order 4 items. The waiter (a guy, black rhinestone earring, left ear) said, "that's all?" We concurred and he went to place our order. we then waited for a very short time as my friend began to receive his orders one after the other. Shortly after he received his 3 of 4 items, another table of 2 was seated beside us. We continued to chat as I became increasing concerned about my order. Our waiter then started to drop off food to the table beside ours. When he turned around I asked him, "where's my food...?" He replied, "... Oh shit..." So he said he'd get my order out immediately. More time past and from my friends order to the waiter forgetting my order to serving my order was a total of 40 minutes. As my food was dropped off to me, I told the waiter who dropped my food off, that I wanted something on my friend's meal comped because I'd been waiting so long for my food. My waiter (earring guy) came to discuss the matter. I told him that I worked in the food industry and that 1. it was his fault that he forgot my order. And so he claims that I never ordered. This is false because both my friend and I remember that I ordered first having not needing a menu (ergo, I used to be a regular). 2., When I asked him about my order, he replied, "... Oh shit..." If that not being proof enough, he then claimed that both him and I were in the wrong because when he had asked us both once our order was taken, "that's it?" and that we agreed, that he thought I was not eating anything. The dingbat he is! When in actuality, we were confirming that he understood both my friend and my order. So I then told him that I was not going to accept my order unless he comped something off my friend's bill. Becoming increasingly frustrated. He then kept saying, you ordered it, if you aren't going to eat it, you're still going to pay for it because you ordered it. We then both explained that my order had taken much too long and that this was unacceptable being upwards of 40 minutes long. He said that he would personally pay for one of the items and this is my favorite part. "Eat your food and get out!" I left my food and decided if that's the way he's going to be, I'm not going to pay for it. So I left my food and my friend went to pay. Unfortunately, the Waiter (earring guy) still charged us for my order. Needless to say, we did not tip, and we left quite upset. I work in the restaurant industry (and I mentioned previously) and you're an idiot to not think that the customer is always right. If we mess up an order and even when we don't mess up an order, we make the customer happy. Always. What the waiter (earring guy) did comp "from his own pocket" was my friend's half order of salmon sashimi (priced at $5ish). Your service is quite terrible Sushi Town. I live a no more than a 5 minute walk from Sushi Town but I will never go back.
So the idea is good but poorly executed. For $9 I watched the guy make my California chopped salad . Mostly lettuce like 80%. All the other ingredients including feta, shrimp , pineapple raisins etc we're put in by one teaspoon each! It was supposed to have avocado which I expected to be decent sized pieces Nope, when I asked where the avocado was the guy says " we use base". Huh? Then he shows me a bin of runny minced up cucumber and says the avocado is mixed in there . So I basically paid $9 for lettuce and some dressing and was still starving. No wonder everyone else in the food court ate at taco time KFC etc - so they could be full for under $7. I did not see one other customer go to the salad place. Too bad. Closing soon
Coming from an Italian background, I do my best not to judge 'Italian' restaurants too harshly since they'll never truly live up to expectation - only a few really do.
We started with a mista salad (garden salad with 'special' dressing), a minestrone soup, and tri-color ravioli in red sauce - all to share, since we could see how large the portions were. I can't begin to describe the 'special' salad dressing other than it was a gelatinous blob that just sat on top of the lettuce and tasted as though it came out of a 'Kraft' container. Too salty and so thick it was challenging to mix the salad. The soup was inoffensive, but boring, with the vegetables cut way too big. The pasta tasted as though it'd been in the freezer for about a year, prior to cooking. The sauce was ok, not too sweet or bitter - the better part of the meal.
It could have been just our server - can't speak about them all - but she was gruff and very rushed in her delivery of our items, just shy of tossing them on the table. Everyone has a bad day, but this was overkill. I really hope folks begin to understand that 5 pounds of pasta doesn't constitute an 'Italian dinner experience'. Olive Garden does a million times better. Really? a couple of free buns at the beginning of the meal - that impresses patrons?
The beef and chicken combo is a great way to get variety, and a very well portioned, satisfying meal. Each entrée comes with two sides (4 if you get the Jumbo) and if you opt-out for the 2 scoops of rice, you can pick a third side instead. The quality of the food has always been consistently great. I appreciate the care the owner and workers take to ensure customers are happy, and explain any questions someone may have.
True enough, it's not necessarily 'Thai' - but you can't deny the quality of the food. I appreciate that the server takes the time to ensure you get a good helping of meat, and when you get veggies on the side, they take the time to give you a variety of vegetables including some mushrooms. The food is well prepared, flavorful, and clean. I recommend the spicy white fish, and mushroom beef. Also, their hot and sour soup is good as well.
