Good alternative to the place next door

I'll be honest to say we weren't patient enough to line up at the restaurant next door (...you know...that pasta place with line-ups at dinner time!). Anyway, who says cluster marketing doesn't work eh? So we popped into this place and we were quite impressed by the interior. If you've been to the other Japanese places within the vicinity you'll know that this one is one step above.

The service was very attentive and accommodating. I overheard the table next to us asking if they can plug in their phone for charging. The table happily obliged when the waiter suggested for them to move to a table beside the wall with an outlet. As for our service everything was done on a timely manner. She came around a few times to top-up our tea and asked if things were okay.

We ordered the salmon and tuna sashimi. They tasted great because the temperature was perfect and the pieces were sliced proportionately. We also ordered the Rock & Roll which was a crab & scallop roll - which was quite delicious. Overall I would say the food is solid. This place definitely stands above the rest of the Japanese restaurants on this block.

Unfortunately nothing special

I felt like supporting the local businesses so decided to try Yo Sushi as I knew they are new. The reviews on Yelp are almost all positive. So let's start with the good things....Service is friendly and attentive. Our server kept our tea filled and always checked up on us. The decor is nice - they must have spent a lot on the interior because the previous restaurant here, Bombay Biel was completely different inside. Many large booths. Dark wood separates the tables for a bit of privacy.
Here's the negatives....The menu is huge and nothing different than the million other "japanese" restaurants in town. The two starters we ordered were so bland - Agedashi tofu and Gyozas had no taste. Also the entrees didn't impress me. We didn't try the sushi which may have been better. There were only a handful of customers in the large restaurant when we were there. Lots of potential but need to improve on the food.
