I have no idea how the other guy reviewed this, as it's closed now.
Their phone number doesn't work, the restaurant has been sold to be rebuilt as condos on the Kingsway strip.

While it was open it was a great deal, the lunch bbq came with a fair amount of meat and lots of fresh veggies, and I was sad when I passed by the other day and noticed it was closed. I wish I had eaten here more. Hope they re-open at a different location.

So-so lunch special

I guess for $5.99 you shouldn't expect much. The meat portion was a little skimpy and everything else was unmemmorable. I only remember being in a large restaurant which had only a few tables filled and yet still having difficulty getting attention from the servers. They kept disappearing into the kitchen or were just standing around chatting. I would not go back again even if it was cheap.

lunch special barely special

I took DaveO's advice and went back to Wonder for lunch. (I'd been there for dinner before and it was an okay experience, but, for the price, not as good as other Korean restaurants further along Kingsway).

My partner had the beef and vegetables special. I had the kimchee fried rice. Both come with side dishes, salad and soup.

For a lunch special, the salad and side dishes were okay, but I would have thought we would get a better variety. One side dish per customer? And both spicy? The salad was lacklustre, but I do love cheap thousand island dressing (honestly), so no complaints. The fried rice was very spicy, but still good. The beef in the special looked sparse, but if my partner didn't complain about it, then I guess it was enough.

Oddly enough, the tea (a mix of barley and green tea, usually very good) was weak.

And the restaurant was cold. My feet were freezing the entire time. It's a cavernous place, so it's probably costly to heat it, but still...

Been here twice now...

and i've had two different experiences. The first time i came here i had the spicy tofu soup with potato noodle. the food was good and it came with the small sidedishes that commonly accompany your entre. The ambience and the setting was very nice in that the restaurant had been styled and modeled with Korean influences. The service was decent but somewhat unfriendly.

The second time i came here, i decided to try out the BBQ since that was what its specialty was. I had the Lunch special 5.99 bbq pork and vegetables and the portion was small, but with the salad and side dishes, it was worth the 5.99. The service is quite on and off as the servers can just barely speak english competently enough to answer your questions.

Overall, good food, decent service, and nice ambience, it's worth a try, at least for it's lunch special BBQ for 5.99 which is worth it IMO.
