White Spot located in Metrotown in Burnaby. With over 60 locations in British Columbia and Alberta, White Spot has been serving unique, freshly prepared dishes in a contemporary, casual atmosphere for over 75 years.
My b/f had a coupon for a free entree here and so we decided to go to this particular White Spot being closest to his place.
Food: i had the BC chicken burger which is my ultimate favorite! it gets really messy to eat w/ the triple O sauce but i dont care! sometimes it comes w/ too much mayo but then i'll just scrape it off to the side. i like the coleslaw here, not radioactive like KFC colesaw! my b/f had the mushroom burger which he enjoyed. we liked how the fries were not greasy...and we got them refilled for free ofcourse! caution: dont use the vinegar, it's really really weak!!
Service: everyone there is very friendly. appears they have a lot of regulars b/c they know ppl by face or name. they were nice enough to re-seat us so we could sit by the TV to watch the game. it wasn't too busy so we got our food relatively fast and our server always checked up on us.
Ambiance: very casual and friendly. when we went, the lights kept flickering all nite b/c of the construction going on nr by which was a little annoying, but that was out of their hands. it's not a place to take a date but if ur comfortable w/ going just for food and dont mind the "older" crowd in a fairly more sedate/calm environment this is ok.
Overall: next time i have a craving for the BC chicken burger i will still come back.
A friend and I was looking for a place to have a bite after watching a movie in Silver City (Metrotown). We decided to stop here as it was on our way back. Since it was early dinner time, we were seated promptly.
My friend ordered the Veronica Salad and I had a double double. For drinks, we had a bellini and pop. The pop, of course, was for me. Remember, no drinking and driving! They arrived after a while (a bit longer than what we wished but not too long that we would start complaining).
My friend said the salad was good. In fact, I might order that next time. However, if I do so, I will have to make sure they really toast the cashews (despite what the menu says, they weren't toasted). As for my burger, I was a bit disappointed with the bun (not really a well made Kaiser bun). The O-sauce was dripping out of the burger but didn't have to use more than one napkin. Not a sign of a juicy burger. However, the biggest let down was the fries: they were soggy. It was slightly oily (which, to an extent, is OK to me) but it lacked the crispiness of well made french fries. Just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I asked for additional fries (and mentioned the first batch was soggy). Unfortunately I was disappointed again...
Ambiance was better than what I expected. I thought it would be more of a worn down place yet it kept its charm.
Service was good. No complains here. When they checked on us, they did that without interrupting our conversation. Kudos for that.
Although I gave just a "decent" rating, it wasn't that bad. I did so because I am biased, i.e., just because it is a White Spot, I automatically gave a -1 to the overall rating. It is the fact that it is so ubiquitous, you would expect the food to be "better" than average. Wishful thinking, I guess.
After debating with a co-worker about where to eat we settled on White spot to subside out food cravings, but were utterly disappointed with the whole experience. We arrived at the so called restaurant, had to wait a few minutes to get a seat, then sat there for 10 minutes until the waitress even knew we were there. After the waitress arrived we ordered our drinks and food at the same time (i asked for some triple O sauce on the side), i ordered a root beer, and my co-worker ordered a coke. after another 10 minutes our drinks arrived... i got a coke and he got a root beer... needless to say it was a freaking drink order! if you screw that up i wonder how well our food is going be... well our food took about 10 minutes to arrive and when she put the plates down and walked away i stopped her and asked if i could have the triple O sauce... she said "yes of course ill bring it right out" needless to say the sauce never arrived through the whole lunch. when we were done eating the plates were left in front of us and we were given the wrong bill. i politely handed it to the table next to us who it belonged to and awaited our bill. after waiting another 10 minutes for the bill i was about ready to walk out.
ok so to re-cap the let downs;
1. No triple O sauce after asking 2 times for it
2. Wrong drinks twice
3. Wrong bill
4. waiting way to damn long for my food. when you only get 30 mins for lunch and it takes an hour and 15 mins ppl start getting pissed off.
all in all i suggest you don't attend this white spot EVER unless you like unsatisfactory service and the wrong drink.
THANK GOD ITS FRIDAY
Hmm well to start the hostess was very rude and unhelpful. I walked in and said "Hi" and he didn't even both to acknowlede me or how many people I was with. Just stood there like a statue until another girl came and said she will be right with us. He obviously hates his job. When we were finally seated from mr. rude he sneezed on his hand 3 times then handed us our menus. how gross and unsanitary. Proceeded to thump away dragging his feet. Didn't bother telling us the specials. We had to hear it from the table next to us while there hostess kindly told them. Our server was kind and prompt but seemed as if she was working there alone with no help. Had to wait on many other tables and you could tell she was tired. We were near the entrance so we were able to see the hostess and he basically was jsut standing around and looking and fixing his hair in the reflection of the glass door. Food was not bad. Had the legendary with salad as did my partner. Gotta love the triple O sauce! Like I said, would only come back if i was really starving and in the area. Because I had much better experiences at other White Spots.
We walked into the restaurant and were greeted friendly enough, we were asked if we shall prefer restaurant or lounge seating to which we reply whichever she says ok and leads toasted restaurant seating when she stops turns around walks around us and says actually come this way and seats us in the lounge, we are seated at a dirty table given our menus and told the specials. 5mintues later she comes back asks us to move everything off the table and wipes it down our server finally shows up 10 mins later worst part was there was only 4 other people in the restaurant!!!! He took our drink order and food order together no complaint on the drinks they were great but as for the food I will never ever eat there again!! We had zoo sticks to start and one of them was mushy and rotten it totally turned me off and our dinner ing we both ordered the special which our hostess told us about then our waiter said they were out of.... But then came back and said oh wait we have 2 left worst thing I ever ate dry flavorless meat and mushy limp asparagus! Save your money and eat at home not worth the trip!
Wow, i guess the stereotypes are true! Old white people do eat at WhiteSpot... we accidentally went there when the staff was changing shifts at 4pm. It took about 30 minutes to get our appys even the waitress felt bad and offered them for free! THe burgers had way too much mayo and grease... The one downtown is much better. I won't be back... might as well go to Earl's on Kingsway. The decor was nicer than i though but that's it. I'd be really mad if i didn't get the free appies!
I ordered beef dip in the early afternoon. It's about $10.
In the evening they charge $2 more.
The server charged me $12. When I pointed it out he wasn't apologetic. Changed the bill and came back. I think he said sorry, but he knew that I'd caught him. What a jerk.
I didn't tell the manager but I probably should've.
Be sure that you check your bill at this place.
The food was good. Tender beef, but the dip was too salty.
