Wah Lun serves up Chinese cuisine and Dim Sum.
Saturday afternoon dim sum 1:30 pm. Lots of seats available. Got seated at the very end table nearest to the restrooms. Lots of foot traffic very annoying. Plus the waiter was rolling table tops back and forth getting ready for the evening trade. Why can't you wait until the afternoon lull before doing this. Food was average and of good size. Order off the sheet plus there were some items presented table to table by a waitress. I had no idea what the cost was until I got the bill. Dim sum cost $3.25-$3.75 per item. Restroom was okay. Credit card okay with $25.00 minimum. Won't be back.
I liked this place. Food was good, prices reasonable and service quick and polite. I was alone but seated immediately. Tea was fast and hot sauce there as soon as I asked for it. You order off a sheet but I now prefer that to trying to wave down the cart to get cooling off food and I know what I'm getting and about when I'm getting it as opposed to hoping what's on the cart. Servings were hot, tastly and all a good size. I found them efficient to where I was in and out on my fairly quick schedule not theirs. There are more high end places around, perhaps with better food and amenities but also repleat with higher prices. This was good all around and I will return.
Went there with part of the fam Friday for lunch. The dishes were all very well presented and all agreed it was very fresh and tasty. Being from Victoria where dim sum can be spotty at best, it was a refreshing treat. I actually prefer ordering from a sheet as you can reasonably expect your food to be fresh and made to order. We will go again when we can.
We have been to this place several times for Dim Sum and have thought the food to be quite good. We went for dinner last night, very busy - which is always a good sign. Deep fried cod, and deep fried squid were very tender and tasty.
Yes folks, this used to be the old Dragon Inn restaurant... the original signage frame still exists, the Dragon's long gone though.
This restaurant is now the Wah Lun restaurant and this has to be the best Burnaby Heights' Dim Sum eatery.
Gone are the serving carts, that was my favourite part of the Dim Sum experience but it's true that so much food probably went to waste and the hygiene factor has to be taken into consideration, but that's what the charm was all about.
The Dim Sum variety is abundant, the service is very good, the ambiance is clean and lively, though the acoustics are poor but afterall it's a family atmosphere, and it's friendly.
The prices are comparable to other establishments in the Metrotown and Vancouver area. I like it and eat there almost every second to third weekend with my family.
Give it a try if you like Dim Sum.
Granted it was a very busy night at this newly renovated restaurant, but the service and food were terrible. I called in an order and was told it would be a half hour wait. I arrived 30 minutes after ordering and paid for the food plus a generous tip and was told it would be just another 5-10 minutes. After standing in the lobby for 20 minutes I approached the girl at the counter and asked how much longer I would have to wait. "5 more minutes." After another 10 minutes I was told again "5 more minutes." And again after waiting yet another 10 minutes I was told "5 more minutes." I told her if it was any longer than 5 minutes I would be taking back my money and going elsewhere. Finally my food appeared and I left muttering that this better be the best food ever... It wasn't.
Deep Fried Shrimp Spring Rolls - 5 for $4.50. Passable. Some flavour but quite greasy.
Sauted Prawns with Ginger - flavourless, served on mostly celery with two carrot slices and a few snow peas. Not a speck of ginger to be seen.
Diced Chicken with Cashew Nuts - I have no idea what this would have tasted like as they gave us dried out pork fried rice instead.
Shrimp and BBQ Pork Fried Rice - see above. Dried out and flavourless. My boyfriend literally choked on it.
Chinese Mushroom and Chicken Chow Mein - About 6 peices of slimy chicken and baby bok choy served on vermicelli noodles. Again, flavourless and not a single mushroom to be seen.
Normally I would take this as a lesson learned, but I packed everything up and brought it back to the restaurant and asked for my money back. They offered to give me the cashew chicken that was left sitting on the counter, and to give me a free main course at a later date... No thanks. They gave me my cash back and I let her keep the tip.
Upon reading a review of this restaurant, we were not looking to visit it, but seeing as our first choice was closed that day, we thought about giving it a chance. Upon arriving we were seated in a dining room that was much too classy for their food. We ordered and three other tables that had arrived after us, and ordered after us were being served while we were left waiting for even our soup! While we waited, we were drinking quite possibly the worst tea I have ever had in my life. While waiting, not once did our waiter come by to check on us. Eventually our meal was served, which I am regretting eating now. Neither of us finished our wonton soups, as they did not taste good. When our main courses arrived, the sweet and sour pork was good, the chow mein was alright, but the chicken and vegetable dish we got was quite possibly the worst I've had. First few bites were okay, then not once but TWICE I had bites that tasted like they were soaked in soap, which I immediately spit out! And still, no waiter to be found! The ladies who brought us our meal did not speak to us, just dropped off the dishes and left. We did not speak to our waiter again till we already had the bill. The entire staff made us feel like outcasts and basically ignored us.
I was more than displeased with this restaurant!!
I would never eat there again, and neither would my boyfriend.
I gave the food a 2 because two of the four dishes were alright, but the soup, the tea, and the chicken and vegetables were horrible!
The ambiance also got a two from me, because it was a classy feel and the wait staff were dressed very nice, but it was much too classy for the meal and service we received. Overall, four thumbs down!!
