The title says it all - they make the BEST pad thai I've ever had in Metro Vancouver.
I went here for dinner with my husband last night and had a wonderful dinner. We shared their pad thai and cashew chicken. The pad thai with chicken was absolutely, mouth wateringly delicious. The flavour was very complex and had this slow hot heat from the chili powder. You could taste all the spices and the tamarind. The thing I enjoyed the most was the authenticity of the dish and the fact that it wan't a scary brigh orange/reddish colour (like all other Thai or rather "Thai" restaurants in Metro Van).
The cashew chicken dish was also extremely flavourful. The cashews were PERFECTLY toasted and gave a lot of contrast with the other parts of the dish. My only complaint was that they were skimpy on the chicken.
The service was wonderful. Absolutely no complaints here. Our waitress was friendly and kept our glasses full the entire time (I think she visited us at least 5 times just to fill our glasses). My favourite part of the service aspect was that all their chefs are THAI (according to their website)!
The value was good. The pad thai was larger than I thought it would be - but both dishes were a bit skimpy on the meat (but definitely NOT in the flavour department).
Ambiance was a little bit kitschy - but still nice. The one thing I was impressed with in terms of the ambiance was the dish ware used (beautiful white and blue porcelain dishes).
I would DEFINITELY come back here again and will spread the word about their AMAZING pad thai!
Only ate here twice and both times ordered just the Tom Yum soup and side of rice. Both times the soup was tasty and how I expect it to be. The rice was nicely steamed. I'll go back and try some more dishes. Service was friendly. The place is semi clean but could use an update.
Came here with my friend for lunch. This restaurant offered a small selection of lunch specials. I had the yellow curry with chicken and my friend had the pad thai with chicken. Both were $8.99 that came with a small salad and two spring rolls. Salad was tasty, but had a little too much dressing and the spring rolls were hot and crispy. Overall, food was well-prepared and fresh.
Service was good. We didn't wait too long for our food to arrive. Ambiance is interesting. Bright green walls.
I'm glad I discovered this little hole-in-wall Thai restaurant in my neighborhood. Girlfriend K and I came here for some take-out on Saturday night. We both ordered noodle: she ordered the Pad Thai and I the Pad See Iw.
I have to disagree with the previous post about their food being bland. We both thought our noodles had great flavour. The only bad thing about the Pad Thai was the clump of chili on one side. But it was very minor and was picked out.
I really enjoyed my Pad See Iw (flat rice noodle here) and have to mention the fresh veggies in the dish. The broccoli and carrot pieces were perfectly done and not overcooked.
I really enjoyed the ambiance here created by the cute paper umbrella light covers as well as the nice glass coasters. Eventhough a bit dated, I though it added character.
Service was fantastic. Owner was very friendly and thanked us for coming in and told us to please enjoy our dinners.
It was empty at around 6pm when we arrived. I just hope they generate enough business to stay open in this area as a lot of restaurants don't make it.
I'd be back for sure.
I have been trying Thai food around Vancouver and finally discovered this small restaurant. They have the best authentic Pad Thai so far compared to other pad thai. The noodle is soft not chewey and flavourful. Not like other Thai restaurant, their curry comes with rice ( in most of Thai restaurants, you have to order rice on the side ). I love their papaya salad, it tastes very fresh, can be a bit spicey but how its supposed to be. Their panang curry is awesome too.
Also they have very good deal for lunch with 2 spring rolls, salad with yummy homemade dressing and one main course.
The decor can be a little bit overwhelming with the green wall and umbrella but overall, the food is the best.
I have been to this little gem a few times. It is very tiny (6 tables), but very appealing with the umbrella lamps and posters of Thailand on the walls. The people who run this place are actually Thai, and accordingly always greet with a smile.
The prices are lower than the Thai Cafe just up the street, and the food, in my opinion, is much better. Yes, the portions aren't HUGE, but it is the cheapest Thai food around, and we always go home with leftovers.
The tom kah gai is worth trying - lots of flavour and as spicy as you please. The green curry is smooth and delicious. The mixed veggies left something to be desired (a little salty) but they did have a nice mix of vegetables in it.
I would love to see this place thrive, so stop in and give it a try!
My friend and I went here for a late lunch.
Wow!!fresh as it could get,we could see the cook preparing our dishes in front of us.
it was by far the most tasty thai food I have had in a while.
Not very busy,so help this jewel out and go for thai today!!
cross street madison.
I was so looking forward to this place after reading the reviews. We went their on a Sunday and found it was closed, so, we went on a Saturday night. Boy, were we ever disappointed. We ordered the Pad Thai which was OK but nothing to rave about. The cashew chicken was very waterery and the pineapple rice (not in a pineapple) was bland and relatively tasteless.
The service was very slow and the waiter delivered someone elses food to our table by mistake and had to redo the dish again for the guests who had already been waiting for some time. In my opinion, the food and service was definitely over-rated.
Not the best Thai food I've ever had, but for a hole-in-the-wall, it’s pretty good. Sweet and sour soup is delicious, perfect amount of heat. Loved it. I always get the red seafood curry, beautiful coconut taste to it. Everything is thoroughly enjoyable, reasonable prices, they always get my order right. No complaints. I never eat in, the whole place is a kind of strange color and just gives off a weird ambience. But the food is always good, I just pick it up and leave. For take out thai, this is a recommended place.
If you go the the "Tom Yum", you must try the "Tom Yum". Very, very good and perfectly sour, spicy and tasty! The rest of the dishes we ordered were also very, very good. The only downside is that it is not licensed! Hopefully, they will get one soon.
Service was reasonable, even though we were the only ones there. Very inexpensive in comparison to other Thai places and excellent value. I would and will go back!
I usually like to give the local restaurants a try, and figuring it was in my neighbourhood, all the more reason. The service was good and the ambiance was pleasing, the music was a tad loud, and dulled our conversation.
The portions of food were too expensive for what we received, not good if you're a hearty eater. Decent is what I'd say for my overall experience.
Would I go there again? Probably not! There are more reasonably priced restaurants in the neighbourhood.
A re-vamp of an old diner, my friend and i came in on a quiet evening, and sat down to their tables all lined with pretty colorful Asian style bamboo paper umbrellas covering lights...i couldn't help but notice the walls were 1/2 finished with green paint, but it didn't detract too much from the sweet and friendly family (grandma, and grand-daughter team-- that night) that served us. The crispy wonton they suggested was very tasty, along with their panang curry and delicious pad thai. The prices are pretty reasonable around $8 per entree for dinner. It's a pretty memorable restaurant, and though I don't live in the area, I'd love to return one day for some more good thai food!
The food here is quite good. It's been awhile since I've had some decent thai food. A lot of the old favorites have gone downhill over the years. The service is a bit slow but the food makes up for it. The staff is very friendly. We had 3 entrees, fried rice and soup, totalling $33. I think it's not bad for what you get. Most other thai restaurants offer smaller entrees so that's how I compare it. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
I`ve never yet been tempted to eat in here. But don`t let that put you off. While the dishes i`ve ordered to go on several occasions have been very tasty and well prepared, and the service staff are always courteous and helpful.
The room is , well... errr.. charming, some might say. Unfinished to others. kitsch maybe aswell . Hence the low Ambiance rating, but thats just my point of view. One day they may get to finish painting the other wall.
All in all a solid choice for the neighbourhood, and as mentioned below, I urge you to try them if thai food is your craving. As i would be gladdened to know they are being successful in business.
