Went there with my boss and his associate last night. Was a little disappointed at the ambiance, if there was any to speak of.
I was torn over the seafood salad and the shrimp and dungeoness crab cake, went with the full meal size of the crab cake at the end. Pretty reasonably priced. For $12, it looked pretty good. I liked the way they had their dressing on the side, so the salad wasn't soggy. The crab cake was a little cold, but the taste was alright. A little too much mayo in the apple and avocado salad under the crab cakes, in my opinion.
Overall, it was alright, nothing extraodinary. Was expecting a little bit more from the restaurant in terms of ambiance and quality.
We both have enjoyed the food here on several occasions, but nothing as good as the outstanding Prime Rib.
We found apps are good, and the apple dessert they make is their own and a real wow! Not too noisy here, just a pleasant place, and the Asian that served us was really good, fast, efficient and effective. We asked about for a certain recipe and the Manager came out to meet us. Loved this place, not ostentatious, but decidedly a good choice for a special dinner. We'll keep going back!
Went to Tovoli's for the first time, it was a x-mas dinner. There was a special four course meal on for this event, it was the only choice. I saw the price of the dinner ($37) and set my expectations high.
The service was good in the sense that people were very friendly but there was this ambiance of a pancake restaurant. The host yelled over the table to waiters on occasion and waiters would make sarcastic jokes at your table. Nothing wrong with this it just doesn't fit the prices.
The food was ... ok. I had the turkey and my wife had the steak. The cut of steak was something I could pick up at Safeway in the discount bin. Over all the meal was layed out nicely on the plate but there was NO flavour. Potaotes were just potatoes and the gravy was just grease and flour... nothing special. Again nothing wrong with this but please if you want a meal of this calibur save your money and go to Ihop.
We have tried many restaurants in the city and Tivoli's has an excellent prime rib special on Friday's. The prime rib is cooked just right and the portion size is ample. The restaurant has catered to the allergies in our family and they have no problems serving larger parties. The quality and service have been consistent at each visit and we have had dinner there 8 - 10 times in the last two years.
We were staying at the hotel and were given a voucher for a dinner here for valentine's night. We made a reservation and came down for it. We were shown to a small table in the middle of the floor of the restaurant- Awkward as everyone watched us enter.
We looked over the menu- hmmm interesting food but nothing truly edible.
Since it was Valentine's night and we had a voucher they decided to try to dictate to us what they would offer... like beef tenderloin wrapped in some sort of alcohol sauce or quail stuffed with something or other... we were looking over the menu trying to decipher what two non alcohol consuming adults might try when my partner asked for a pepsi or coke to consume... we were told they didnt serve the stuff and had none in stock.. OMG!!!!!!!
I was almost in tears as we snuck away and didnt even eat there, though it would have been free. Although a nice chicken breast would have been nice they went and tampered it with un edible sauce, trying to be pretentious and yet who are they fooling? They are right near a Cactus Club and a Boston Pizza, even a Church's Chicken and a Tim Hortons. If I wanted a pretentious meal I would have gone somewhere with a view like Horizons or the Tea House. But in the middle of Burnaby, with no great view and a small restaurant? I dont think so!!!
We gave the voucher away to someone in the elevator who had tried to get a table and was told they were full.
We wont return, even if i did eat west coast cuisine with roasted bone marrow, mesculine greens and alcohol reduced sauce, this is certainly not a place that screams ambiance and a place to do it..
so where did we end up eating? Church's Chicken, and let me tell you although the place was fast, it certainly wasnt what I was hoping for. Thanks Tivoli's you wrecked my Valentine's dinner. OMG!!!!
