Why do people still come here?

Food: bland and mediocre. Can't even get chicken strips and fries right.

Service: Took forever to get a server to help us. Find the waiting staff to be quite fake.

Ambiance: Terrible. Just an overload of junk on the walls.

Will never return and recommend others to stay away as well.

The worst burger award
By Kujibo of West Vancouver (127 Reviews)
Submitted Friday, May 25, 2007 - 12:59pm [Dine in]

Eaten here several times over the years. Not sure why, probably just because it was convenient and we were hoping it would be better.

I tend to rate restaurants like this on their burgers as an indicator of food taste. The burgers here are no doubt the most tasteless dry things I have ever eaten. No sauce of any kind I can see on the burgers. Dry as hell as a result. Kelsey's also does the burger like this and I sure hope this isn't some kind of trend. I'd challenge anyone to find a burger like this tasty. Hello restaurant marketing group, ever heard of focus groups?!

The other food on the menu is not as bad as the burgers so I give it a generous 2 stars.

Service and ambience seem to be OK. Actually what I do like is going on a Friday or Saturday night and looking out the window watching all the morons going to the movies waiting 10 minutes for a parking spot and the fights over them when there are a million other places to park. That is good entertainment.

Overall I'd just recommend avoiding this place unless you are desperate even though my individual ratings are not that low.

TG it wasn't you eating here

I went with the gang to TGIF to have their famous burger. In fact everyone in our group had either the TGIF burger (a bacon burger) or the mushroom burger. Mine came with a Caesar salad and fries. The burger was dry, the fries were mediocre, but the salad was actually good for what it was. We also had the honey garlic ribs, which were a bit pricey for the size, and not very tasty. Same for the potato skins. I foolishly ordered a piña colada, which was brownish coloured (not sure what went wrong). It was awful. My friends stuck to soft drinks, because they are smarter than I am.

The server seemed somewhat dim, but friendly. The ambience was like Red Robin or any similar place. The w/c was not tidy. The food was not the greatest. Will I be back? No.

How is this place still surviving?
By epicurious of Burnaby, BC (507 Reviews)

I'm amazed at how this chain, let alone this location, is still surviving. With other restaurant chains with much better food in the area, I wouldn't have thought this place would still be here.

The food is not good. Especially the Jack Daniels items. Over-sauced, and unoriginal. Actually nothing on the menu really stands out. The odd times I've been here were with some colleagues. Luckily, the company paid - I would not shell out pennies for their food.

Service is non-existent. For a restaurant that is not busy at any time of day, one would expect attention. Good luck getting service with a smile.

Wow.
Thats all I gotta say.
There were only 8 people in the restaurant, and it took 10 minutes to get our pop orders.
I had the burger, and asked for no pickles onions or tomatoes. They left the taste out too.It arrives on a dry bun,no sauces,no nuttin.
My friend had the chickenstrip club, which was equally mediocre.
The first time in my life I have never finished my meal.
Oh,the Root beer float they advertised was actually a Vodka Paralyzer.Nice eh?
And to top it off, some dude dressed in street clothes brought our food out to us.
Who the hell was he?a concerned customer?
Never will i return.
No won der it was dead.

This restaurant is not closed, and another restaurant toke over (It is not ;Metropolis Bar and Grill)

I did say that I would return to try something else ither than thier burgers, so I came back to try it and I see that this restaurant has a new name with much better food.

I still only gave a rating of 2, because this page still belongs to TGI Fridays.

Metropolis Bar and Grill will definatly get alot more than 2

Why didn't i check Dinehere.ca first

Well, that was an awful experience. About 8 years ago I vowed after going to the location on Robson / Thurlow (thankfully closed) that I would never return to another TGI's. I thought the quality may have changed, the service may have changed or anything positive may have changed - alas - no change. Defrosted pre wrapped, pre weighed food reheated and served mmmmmmm. Great for a friends pet dog - certainly not for me. The kicker is that I heard the owner is a "Restaurant Consultant" and teaches "hospitality". You would think he would know how to run a franchise - I guess not. I won't even get into the horrid food that was served by horrid servers - all I can say is that you have been warned and to check Dinehere.ca before you go to ANY restaurant!

My first time at TGIF and it was not a very good one. My siblings and I were kinda depserate so we settled for what was in the mall.
The restaurant was nearly empty and I, did not like the decor very much I feel as if it's not exactly very inviting and just very cluttered. Anyways, Our table was dirty and so were our straws... The prices were pretty much the same as any other restaurant this time like Red Robins. We weren't expecting much. What we were disappointed at were the proportions. We order spinach dip appetizer which was OK but I've had WAY better. None of us were full which resulted in us ordering a pricy desert that also came in a very small proportion. In the middle of ordering, we saw that our servers had been switched without any notice. I found the second server to be muh friendlier. My sister, being the money-bag that she is, decided to leave a generous tip, although our time there wasn't exactly pleasurable.

Overall, i am not planning to go back there anytime soon.

We had to wait 10 mins to be seated. Had to wait 20 mins for a waitress even though 5 waiters had walked by and didnt bother to offer service. Ordered our food and waited another 20 mins for the appetizers to come which was gross. It was potato skins which had more cheese than anything else. We left after waiting a half hour for our food to come. So unimpressed. Overall food, service, ambiance were all very poor. Prices are not worth the food you DO manage to get.

Horrible Service & Dining Experience
By Kar_Lena of Vancouver (3 Reviews)
Submitted Saturday, February 23, 2008 - 7:10pm [Dine in]

My group and I had birthday dinner at TGIF and I was absolutely blown away by the horrible service. There were 14 of us and I guess we ordered quite a bit of food but it took nearly 45-50 minutes to get the food out to us. In addition, a friend of ours had come about 20 minutes after all the rest of us had ordered...but her food ended up arriving faster than mine did. Actually it was funny because everyone's food had arrived except for mine and I had to wave at the server to ask him where my food went.

When the server asked during the dinner if he could refill my Sprite and he took my cup but my cup disappeared for 15 minutes. I had to wave him down and ask where my cup went after... it was horrible in general.
The food was nothing special...nor was the service.

It was also weird how we couldn't have seperate bills and stuff, so the bill was just one long lengthy paper of all our food and stuff. And I think the tip was added into the bill, so... for the tip, we had to pay about 21%
It came out to 218. It was not, I tell you, worth it. Never coming back again.

Went there with a party of 8. Everyone agreed that it's too expensive for the quality & quantity of food you get. The chicken I ordered was soggy and it took FOREVER to come. You can eat here and be sort of satisfied, or walk downstairs to RR, BP and be happier. which takes 2 minutes.

Lunch Nov 15/08

Submitted Wednesday, November 19, 2008 - 10:40am [Dine in]

My friend and I headed to TGIF's for lunch after Metrotown shopping and in want of a small meal with glass of wine. We've been here before and it is a decent restaurant; however, I think it is geared more toward families, late teens and early 20-year olds. There is not much choice in this mall for folk wanting wine. Our waiter was helpful and attentive but the goth guy sitting behind us (on his own) started a noisy belligerent conversation on his cell concluding with well I don't want to talk/see you anymore. My friend and I figured this explained why a young guy is hanging out on his own on a Sat pm. His foul language was a bit off (for us) and the kiddie's at other tables. I know this has nothing to do with the restaurant but this was one selfish soul. Bruschetta was delish as was my chum's onion soup. Wine, top notch!!

Are you sure they have a kitchen in the back?
By wwasn of Vancouver (26 Reviews)
Submitted Thursday, June 5, 2008 - 3:16am [Dine in]

I've been to Metrotown so many times, and each time I pass by this restaurant it gives me the chills.

Food: I'm starting to wonder do they really have a kitchen in the back, if yes, do they have a real chef in there? The food was disgusting. I went there around 4 or 5 times. and they were enough. Their pasta are never al dente. Their seafood alfredo, with bell peppers is more like alfredo sauce with seafood and bell pepper GARNISH. The one dish that really help me made up my mind was the chicken strips. When it come, it was cold and rock hard. As I took a bite, it tasted like ashes! Clearly it was refried multiple times, yet it's still cold? I just can't figure it out. I didn't even finish one piece. Due to the time being, I didn't even bother to ask them to replace it.

Service: We had to wait a good half an hour before we got a table. There were no line ups outside. Furthermore, we clearly see there are tables within the place. Well we were led in, we saw tons of empty tables. What's more, she brought us to the exact same empty table we saw 30 minutes earlier! We wanted a quieter spot, but she insist that we sit where she led us. Her reason, I can't be responsible for such a big area. I was just speechless.

Value: Totally not worth the price for the food that we are getting.

Ambiance: It has a rather interesting decor, but nothing fancy. Though authentic in its own way.

I'll never go back for their so called "food" again.

I had the beef dip, ladyfreind had marinara pasta..Geez..I heard the quality was poor here but wanted to give it a try as I pass by the place in the mall frequently. Beef was fatty, little taste..and looked like it may have been reheated from days previous. Pasta was overcooked and devoid of any flavor. Prawns were mushy.Would not go back, but wanted to give the restaurant a chance.Lots of young kids and baby carriages here..maybe they like the food.

Our most recent visit to TGIF was a good one! Our waitress was very organized and could multi task efficently. Darn good at what she does. The soup and our meal was very good as well.

They do get very busy, probably due to their location in the mall.

We were a bit dissappointed that we could not use our TGIF gift card. It was purchased in the USA, not accepted here in Canada. We have been given other gift cards from the USA and have been able to use them in Canada.

If you're looking for anything that isn't a burger, this is a good place to go. (How ironic.)

The last time I went there, our assigned server was the most charismatic person I had ever seen. He was very encouraging, and practically cheered his head off every time we ordered something. It was a little weird, but strangely welcoming. He also never rushed us into ordering, and was very patient. (My boyfriend was having trouble trying to figure out what to order...the poor waiter must have come back to our table at least four times!) He also gave good recommendations for appetizers. The guy sure knew his stuff!

My boyfriend ordered a steak, and I ordered their Quesadilla platter. When the food came, it smelled great and it looked great. My food was excellent. The cheese was melted just right, and the assortment of other ingredients in my Quesadilla tasted sensational. It also complemented the rice very well. Unfortunately, my boyfriend didn't like his steak. He had ordered it Medium rare and it ended up looking a little more done than he wanted. However, upon complaining to the waiter, he apologized and rushed off to get another steak for him. This one was much better and they didn't even charge us for the second steak!

The ambiance could definitely use a little work, mainly because of poor lighting (I had to strain my eyes to see my boyfriend's face at some points during dinner) and the really strange red/white candy striped patterns that are seen throughout the place. It's tacky, but I guess that's what they're trying to emote in their decor....but I definitely do like the vintage vibe they give off in some areas of the restaurant. If you're lucky to sit near the window (especially at night) the view is amazing!

I found this restaurant to be convenient and decent, considering all the amenities close by. (IE: Silver City's right upstairs.) I will definitely be going there quite often!

Not impressed

I was just here last weekend looking for a bite to eat with my friends and they decided to come to this place because it was the only restaurant in metrotown that was closest to the movie theatre and was still open. It took us 1 hour to get a table the hostess were not very pleasant, although they tried to be but most can tell its forced and comes out fake, and as far as the crowd is concerned TGI does not really attract the high end clientel, most of the diners were families, teenagers so I probably shouldn't be cirticizing the restaurant because thats their niche market, but I digress. I believe the server that was helping me was named kristy (i am not sure if thats how her name was spelled but I will get to the point) The table we sat at wasnt very accomodating as the restaurant is very cluttered and the ambiance for what it was was sub par as most would assume a family oriented restaurant would have staff watch their language in front of the customer. to the service, i was not impressed with the type of service I recieved, as were my friends who went to the restaurant. The suggestions out server made got us interested however when the food arrived it was very mediocre. I suggest that server should work in sales as she got us to bite on TGI's product thinking it would be impressive but it was not. She like the hostesses seemed fake to us, even though we were very polite customers. Most would assume that if a customer is very nice the server would tend to get excited as most good and polite customers would leave a large tip, and personally I tip fairly well when I can see that our server is doing their best to create a welcome dining experience. But as TGI is concerned our server just went about her business not really showing enthusiasm for our politeness.
Back to the food.

The chicken was dry, the fries were moist
the ribs dry
the pop watered down
the only saving grace for the menu would be the salad

All in all I would not go back to TGI again, and I would not recommend any of my friends and colleagues to dine at this restaurant again. If they hire better/polite staff and legitimate cooks maybe, but at this point in time i probably wont be returning

Finally a good experience at TGIF
By beverly_wu of Vancouver (3 Reviews)
Submitted Sunday, November 9, 2008 - 2:20am [Dine in]

Finally! After a few unsatisfactory experiences at TGIF over the past few years (i.e. every time i went was a BAD experience), I am happy to report that FINALLY, TGIF gets my cautious stamp of "I Would Go There Again".

Tonight I went to catch a 10:10pm movie at the Metropolis at Metrotown theatres, and planned for a bite to eat beforehand with a couple friends. We arrived at TGIF at 8:30pm. Had to wait for 10 mins for our party of 3 to be seated in a not-at-capacity situation, as they were understaffed. The "hiring now" sign was clearly displayed at the hostess's station. :)

Server was in a good mood, nice and polite, fairly prompt service.

I ordered the French Onion Soup and the Bruschetta appetizer. 2 appies=dinner.
Friend 1 ordered the cheesy cheeseburger.
Friend 2 ordered another burger of sorts, and was pleased to find that she was able to substitute a Veggie Patty.

No complaints from either of them.
My soup and bruschetta were fantastic.

I make note of the soup and bruschetta because this is the first time that my food at TGIF has qualified to be even minimally acceptable. All previous visits in past years were, frankly, disgusting. This time around I was very pleasantly surprised, and sent my compliments to the chefs.

I took home the leftovers of my bruschetta, because it itself could be an entree, and combined with the soup and a late lunch, I was stuffed.

Also ordered the Saturday drink special, "electric lemonade". Tastes like lemonade. Just blue. I assumed that there was alcohol in it, but couldn't really taste it.

If the food and service continue to be decent, I may make it a place I'd go to with confidence before seeing a movie at Metropolis, but for now, I'll stick with a Cautious Approval rating.

The food is horrible. All 4 of us did not like our meals, at all.
