My friend was right

My friend made a comment about this place before. He said that they always screw up their order. But their drinks are good.
I decided to check this place out one day totally forgot about my friend's incident. Went there on a week night, approx 7pm. The place was tiny and it was half full. We ordered 2 BBT's, green onion pancake and condensed milk toast. The drinks were good and humongous! The green onion pancake was good but oily. But somehow, they forgot about our toast. The service was lacking because it was so hard to find our server. It's like playing hide and seek. By the time we got a server's attention, we were full from drinking our BBT.

Decent addition to the Metrotown area

An after dinner dally brought us to Tea Team. Odd name but a funky little spot. Space is stylish and feels spacious, despite the available space and tidy to boot.

Our slush drinks are blended well, overlooking the lone ice cube in my glass which seems to be a blip. The hues unfortunately screamed artificial flavouring, and consequently the taste is brought down a little, notably my tangerine slush which had a bitter aftertaste. My gf's milk tea was the best of the bunch; I really liked the strong black tea undertones. We noshed on a few standard bubble tea dishes, the green onion pancake with beef running away from the pack. They have a varied food menu which neighbouring tables seemed to ring up. Prices are on the higher end, notably the drinks.

Servers are quick on their feet and like to mingle when they can, but are otherwise all business, if not on the minimal side.

If you overlook the physical surroundings, it doesn't stray from the pack. In the bloated bubble tea gas bubble, this spot is best described as middle of the road.

Good Neighbourhood Taiwanese Place

Tea Team is one of those restaurants that I keep in my back pocket whenever my wife and I need a place to eat. The ambiance is interesting to say the least, with the multi-coloured windows and popular Chinese music playing in the background. The service has always been average to good. Even when the place is full, it's never been bad, and when the place is near empty, the service isn't spectacular. Value-wise, it's pretty good, which is why there are aways quite a number of teenagers and young adults eating there. The prices are reasonable and the portions are good.

The food is always good, although I haven't exhausted the menu. Even though it is a bubbletea place, I find that some of their flavours taste overly artificial (made from powder). The drink sizes are pretty good, but they aren't cheap either. I enjoy the food far more than the drinks.

Nice BBT Place

I was in the Burnabi desert and craving a BBT when I spotted this place. There used to be a half-decent Chinese restaurant at this location for about the last million years, and I was surprised they had closed. The new place had an extreme makeover with interesting sci-fi decor including coloured octagon windows and shiny booths. I checked out the w/c and was amazed to find it was new and clean. The restaurant does BBT and snacks, and the menu was comprehensive and moderately priced. I ordered a pineapple and coconut milk tea and it tasted good, with lots of fruit flavour. Service was okay, and the staff was friendly. With so many BBT choices in the area, they will have to be at the top of their game to survive.

A good choice to get your tea on.

Great Place to Hangout

It's a great place to hangout with your friends near Metrotown.
Lots of parking and not too busy.
Most food is around $7-9, and their bubble-tea (around $4.25-$4.75) is served in a HUGE beer mug.
I find waitresses here are much nicer than most other places.
The quality of the food and bubble tea might not be the best, but they are served quickly, and who cares if it's so cheap and you can stay there with your friends without having a difficulty being seated.

Seafood Kimchi Hotpot with NO Bean thread
By dummeow of Vancouver (4 Reviews)
Submitted Thursday, August 19, 2010 - 2:07pm [Dine in]

I went here with my fiance to try out the food. I ordered the seafood kimchi hot pot and realized it arrived with no bean thread noodles. The menu clearly stated in both words and picture that there was. They returned the dish with bean thread noodles but they were undercooked. I ate it anyway. And get this, the seafood kimchi hot pot only had one mussel in it. There was barely any seafood in the dish.

The service was poor because right after we were seated we were not offered tea or menus until about 20 minutes later. Overall the ambience is the only good thing about this place. My fiance's deep fried crispy chicken dish wasn't great either. The washroom also had no toilet paper.

Have not gone back ever since but good place to sit around if you're that bored. Heard the drinks were decent.

Horrible Experience
By beenthere_2 of Vancouver (7 Reviews)

Walked in here on a Friday night after watching a movie at Metropolis...The place was new and looked pretty modern and inviting. However, our server did not understand English very well. My friend ordered a fresh taro slush, but they were sold out, so she ordered a taro coconut slush, instead they bought over a mango coconut slush 30 minutes later.

My second friend ordered grass jelly for her drink, but instead got cocnut jelly. The server gave us a stare, and bought it back to get it changed. How hard was it to change cocnut jelly to grass jelly? It was on the side anyways! It wasn't like they had to make a new drink.

Finally, for my drink, I ordered a honey lemon green tea HOT. First time around, they bought it to me COLD, the server said I heard you say "COLD", I said no, and my friends heard my order too. Second time around, she bought it to me HOT but with coconut jelly, I had made it very clear I wanted grass jelly on the side. The server said "I heard you say JELLY." I said "Yes, but I asked for grass jelly, you can't just assume I wanted coconut jelly." She told me that the owner was getting mad. I told her it's not my fault you keep screwing up the orders. She should be mad at you, not the customer. She said I had to have my drink the way it was, they refused to change it and just left the drink in front of me! Never in my life had I had to go through such a hassel just to get one bubble tea!

She semi apologized and offered us 20% off the bill. But what's the point? Why should I have to pay for a drink that I didn't order, it's like having to be forced fed peanuts when you're allergic to them! If she was a really good server, she would have repeated the orders back to us and corrected the order.

I would never visit this place again, and I don't recommend this place. It took them over 30 minutes to make 3 drinks and made a mistake on each of them! Please save yourself and visit another bubble tea place instead, there are plenty of awesome bubble tea places on Kingsway in the Burnaby area.

Poor Service and Policies
By Leo of Vancouver (1 Review)

Being Asian, I felt it was my duty to try bubble tea. Stepping into Tea Team, I found the atmosphere hip and cute like an updated retro 70's dive. My friend and I were promptly seated and we were looking forward to a drink and catching up. The waitress followed up and then again, with too much eagerness. I felt pressured-was this fast food bubble tea? The place wasn't even full. We found that they were still stuck in the 70's and did not accept credit cards or debit. (Escaping the taxman?) The waitress told us that there was a $3.95 minimum charge. So with only $6 between the both of us, we could at least share a drink. Not possible. My friend then suggested that I could get something and she could keep me company. We obviously were not familiar with minimum charges. Then the limited-english-speaking waitress clarified by turning to the menu which stated $3.95 minimum per person. My friend objected that she had the right to sit and accompany me without being charge and told her to ask her boss. To which the response was rolled eyes. Wow-- they sure know how to provide great service which makes you want to do business with them and return again and spread the word!!! Well in this case, I was willing to stay up until the rolled eyes. So we left because I refuse to give them my business. I would never go there or their affiliates like Teaworks on 41st and Victoria, and Sunflower bubble tea by Joyce station.
