Sushi Town specializes in BBQ and specialty rolls.
Korean style sushi with Chinese style service - won't go back! Waited for food for 20 minutes, waitresses to busy to serve take-out to pay attention to the dining customers. Agedashi tofu arrived with almost no sauce to dip. The sushi and sashimi looked big and sloppy. This was is grub with no presentation that Japanese food deserves.
Good take out if you wanna have a lot of mediocre over-sized sushi for not a lot of money.
One of the first sushi joints that I have been to where the portions are extraordinary, especially the Spicy Salmon Sashimi. It's ridiculous, the taste is just as fantastic and the price is amazing. All their food is awesome...I recommend this place to everyone and anyone i speak to. The service is passable, and the food and price more than make up for it.
Got a sushi craving? Head to sushitown! That's what I did and although I had to pre-order because they were so busy with pick-up orders, it was really worth it. The portions are not at all puny (as some other places like sushi garden is) and the prices are decent. I really like how they took the time to make the sushi presentable, some places don't cut the sushi portions equally or they pieces are watery or even falling apart upon picking up.
I definitely would return for some awesome rolls!
My original review for this restaurant mysteriously disappeared (perhaps deleted because it was 'biased'?). Well, this is not bias. I felt that my experience at this restaurant was so horrible that I have to re-write my review.
We decided to try this sushi place, being a couple that loves sushi and living close-by. Big mistake. From the time we sat down to the time we left (about 30-40 minutes) we were ignored. No service at all. None.
Now that's a terrible restaurant. And this is an honest review. We left. Can't rate the food because we never even had a chance to try it, so I gave it a 2 for fear of having this review deleted again for 'bias'. Won't be going back.
along with sushi garden, this is the only japanese restaurant that i go on consistent basis.
simply put, this restaurant will give you the best bang for your buck.
just go and order sasimi and see it for yourself.
they are so huge that it makes you wonder how they make money.
this place is also very busy, therefore high turnover, so food (especially sushi and sasimi) is always fresh and tasty.
i love the 'awesome' roll and 'red' roll.. beef roll is also very good.
service is solid but can be improved.
i think waitresses are understaffed and they need to hire more waitresses.. every time i go there i see them working their asses off.
This is a great find for anyone who loves sushi. The portion sizes are giant, (Dynamite roll has 2 prawns in it!) and the fish is very fresh and clean tasting.
The prices are even better, i went with a friend and we left STUFFED and not even able to finish everything and our bill was only about $45 in total!
The servers are a little slow, but you just have to waive one down and she comes quickly. The food itself comes up pretty fast considering this place is always packed....
I am completely addicted and go almost every week!
My bf and I were looking on dinehere.ca to find a good sushi restaurant. We read some reviews on this restaurant and decided to give it a try. When we got there I think we were both a little unsure of how the experience would shape up to be. The inside of the restaurant isn't so great looking, but we weren't there to judge the design. The service was pretty good. Our server did forget one of our orders but when we informed her, she apologized and made sure the food was made right away. We were both full from what we'd eaten: gyoza (6pc), negitoro roll (6pc), awesome roll (8pc), tuna & salmon sashimi (9pc), chopped scallop (2pc) and ikura (2pc). The bill came to less than $30 without tip. But still, really cheap for pretty good food.
This place is a hidden gem. Located in North Burnaby, you'd miss the place if you blink but fortunately lineups outside the restaurant (especially at dinner time) make it an easy find. Fresh generous slabs of sashimi, large rolls of sushi with more filling than rice. Ambiance could use improvements but the food makes up for this. Check it out.
Surprisingly good for North Burnaby standards! I love their Spicy Tuna Roll and Awesome Roll. Overall, their food is fresh and tastes good.
Service left much to be desired. There's one particular girl that is quite the bitch! She never seems to be doing anything, but if you ask her for anything, it takes her 10 minutes to come around. Mind you, the restaurant is small. When she does manage to come around, she gives you a horrible attitude. Also, speed is a bit of an issue. We went to Sushi Town right when it opened, and were the second table to order. However, it took us a solid half an hour until any food arrived. At least, though, whatever food did arrive was delicious!
Ambiance...meh. It's small and not particularly charming.
Tip: Don't come here if you know that the high school nearby is having a Terry Fox Run. All the kids skip the run to go to Sushi Town and the wait is endless!
Run by a young Korean chef, very good place. And for people who are comparing this place with sushi garden is on the right track: this chef used to work at sushi garden (most Koreans know about this). I definitely recommend sushi town over sushi garden, the lady at sushi garden is damn annoying ;( Want additional info? Try Sushi California by Coquitlam Centre, they are also a branch of sushi garden.
Ahh Sushi Town... this place is great! Used to go to a place out in Port Moody for sushi because we couldn't find a good place to go in Burnaby. Then we found SUSHITOWN! The food is really good, every time we've gone, it's been fresh. One of my favorites is the spicey tuna roll. The service isn't always the best, but we dont go for the service, we go for the food. Definetly a good place to try if your in Burnaby and have the need for some sushi.
Food: We ordered the double dragon roll, awesome roll, and red hot roll... here's my take on each one of them:
1. double dragon roll: the unagi here is really good... tender and no fishy smell... better than the other unagi i've eaten before
2. awesome roll: it's unique to this place so you should try it out at least once... i like the bonito and the sauce they use...
3. red hot roll: fresh tuna and scallops... not too spicy
Service: although the waiters are really friendly, they are not that good... service's slow even tho the place's not that busy
Ambiance: blah, nothing special about the ambiance... just a hole in the wall kinda thing
Overall: they deserve a 4 because their sushi rolls are unique and they taste good... not too expensive too... the 3 rolls above cost a total of $ 21 before tip
I eat at Sushi Town a fair bit. The food is excellent, but the service and atmosphere is poor. The waitresses take your order fast, but are not very attentive after that. It's hard to get a tea refill.
The food comes quickly and the portions are large. My only complaint on the food is that the Tuna Sashimi, which I always order, is sometimes frozen. Overall, good eats!
Sushi Town has some of the best specialty sushi I've ever eaten. The regular stuff is okay, but the spicy tuna and other fancy rolls are very delicious. If you come here, be sure to order the fancy stuff.
The service isn't so good though. The last time I was there, they forgot one of my rolls. Also, they never came to refill my tea until I explicitly requested it. I felt sort of ignored.
Other than that, great food.
I had heard good things from a friend about this restaurant. The rolls made by one chef were horrible - it looked like a child had made them. The sushi made by a different chef was quite a bit better. The server didn't get me my remade roll in time so I asked her to take it off the bill. She did but she wouldn't have if I hadn't asked.
I have couple bad dine-In experiences in this restaurant. I always order their food to go since their services are not that good. Their portion are similar to Sushi Garden and the price are almost the same. I 'm really like their spicy tuna roll and spicy scallop roll. You will be happy if you care about the quantity.
I was impressive on my first visit to this restaurant. The price is reasonable, food quality is fairly good with the price they charged. However, when I went there the 2nd time, it was at 6:30pm in the evening ( thought it is early time). The waitress told me that they didn't have Salmon anymore, could we change it to Tuna. I couldn't believe a sushi restaurant has no salmon at 6pm. I told the girl "are you asking me to go another restaurant?". I found out the seats are crowded and little bit dirty.
We've been going here almost once a week for years and have watched this restaurant flourish. Unfortunately, they out-did themelves ....they can no longer handle the capacity of people who have found out about this hole-in-the-wall sushi joint that serves the 'Awesome Roll'.
When we first started coming here years ago, you got seated quickly and the service was prompt. As the months progressed, we noticed that it took longer and longer to get food to our table, so we started phoning in our order prior to going there. This worked for a while, but gradually, again, we started noticing that we would have to wait longer and longer before our food is ready.
So now, we call in atleast 2 hours before our usual dinner time (you get an additional 5% off your bill if you pay cash), but the last time we were there, we waited for more than 20 mins even though we gave them 2 hour notice!
In the end, the food and price still makes it worth the wait... if the owner of this restaurant reads these reviews... Perhaps you should buy out the restaurant next door that is ALWAYS sitting empty and expand! You obviously have the clientele!
My cousin brought me here for the first time a few months ago and I love it. The spicy tuna sashimi is the best I ever had and I prey myself on getting that dish ever sushi joint I go to. When I first walked into the restaurant I loved the decor it was very welcoming as were the cooks and all the servers. Everything is delicious here I enjoyed everything my cousin ordered. At times on other occasions they are to busy to really care for you when picking up take out and there isn't much waiting room when picking up but still a place that everyone should try.
so i went to sushi town again the other day and ordered the chirashi bowl. i dont know if it was because it was late at night or if the chef was just lazy but it was just not right. first of all the rice was a little too warm and wasn't seasoned properly. the warm rice in turn warmed up the sashimi on top. which was quite disturbing. but even with that, the tuna in the bowl was still frozen. i was really hungry and wanted to finish it but i just couldnt. warm sashimi and frozen tuna. not the best combination.
but that was just that one time, other times that i've gone there i got other stuff like the rolls and terriyaki and what not. those are good just dont get the chirashi, you might be sorry.
