Sushi Town specializes in BBQ and specialty rolls.
I eat at Sushi Town a fair bit. The food is excellent, but the service and atmosphere is poor. The waitresses take your order fast, but are not very attentive after that. It's hard to get a tea refill.
The food comes quickly and the portions are large. My only complaint on the food is that the Tuna Sashimi, which I always order, is sometimes frozen. Overall, good eats!
Having been to lots of sushi restaurants in the city, we always head for Sushi Town. The food is always fresh, always delicious - it's worth the money. The service is consistently polite too. My two favorite rolls are the Spicy Tuna Roll and the Big BC Roll. I've also had the gyoza-pan fried pork dumplings and the nasu-eggplant with miso sauce, both of which are in big size, which can ease the burden of your wallet from this much hated HST tax.
The food here is constantly fresh and tasty. The portion size is above average. The prices are not. The room is basic but fine & recently became better organized. It fills early at mealtimes and especially at weekends.
The service, however, is consistently appalling. It's slow, never a smile, nothing outside of what is absolutely necessary to receive your order, personality free. You may well sit for 15 minute before you get tea and another 15 or more before the food arrives. I took my kids there for lunch and ordered too much so asked to have it packed to go. Without a single word I was handed a plastic container and a bag and had to pack the food myself.
I would prefer to see a sushi conveyor belt installed and ditch the pointless servers. Good eats but pack an extra smile & leave the tip at home.
this restaurant is just like Sushi Garden (across from Metrotown) but less busy (because of its location)...apparently the head chef/owner worked at Sushi Garden prior to coming to ST...and that's where all they current rolls originated from...i think the alaska roll is a TAD better at Sushi Garden though (the avocado here seems to always be a bit more ripe than it should be, rice falls apart more often too)..BUT they have BETTER spicy tuna sashimi...(to die for)...their "Awesome Roll" is pretty good too...the only bad thing is that they top the roll off with something called "bonito" ( i think)...which is dry, flaky tuna flakes (it's a bit too fishy for me)....they have better service and it's more spacious...better parking too! A MUST-GO for sushi lovers!
Went tonight for a quick dinner after work. Been here several times, but first time trying rolls and sashimi. Huge portions and quite good.
The place was very busy, service better than usual. Line out the door.
Would highly recommend this place for a great value.
The place is clean and basic. Ambiance is very loud.
Definitely a must!!
if i'm close by and in a deeperate mood for sushi, i'd come here.
the service is extremely slow. It angers me because I think that sushi is a very easy task to manage, and especially since all chefs are particularly educated at schools JUST to major in creating sushi, they should honestly be so much better. portions are okay. price is high. space is cramped, if u sit in the middle in front of the cashier, at least. horrible place would not come back
Great place, but don't expect good service..Group favourites include spicy tuna sashimi and the Awesome roll. This place gets busy but if the wait is too long, and you are up for some chinese, go to Peking Restaurant down the block for my 2nd favourite N Burnaby Chinese restaurant
OK, I love Sushi and Japanese food, but I don't want to feel like I'm in the middle of a Tokyo rush-hour when I'm eating it.
The servers treat you like cattle: no eye contact, no smiles, they just drop the food off and go on to the next order/table.
I saw one of the cooks grope a fried meat order with his hands, and mixed it up on the plate. It was literally the single-most disgusting thing I have ever seen a cook do at a restaurant. Yes, Sushi is made with hands, but it's an art-form and is hygenic when done right. The meat and sauce this guy was handling was all over his hands and running though his fingers and pouring out the side - directly onto the bed of noodles for immediate delivery to the table.
The tables and seats were dirty, and I was too scared to use the bathroom.
This place is designed for high-throughput service. Do not expect a pleasant experience.
We've been here many times but not lately as we got tired of the poor service of the place. Well, doesn't look like it's changed much. Consistent with our previous experiences, the service tonight was awful. Some of our food was given to the table right beside us - by the same waitperson who took our order ONLY MINUTES EARLIER. We also received our food in the typical staggered fashion - except the last dish did not arrive until we had completely finished all our other food and were ready to leave. So we told the waitress not to bother as we were finished eating, but she clearly did not understand us, and brought the dish to us, and stood there waiting for us to take the dish, after I had told her we didn't want it anymore. And she stood there. Never again we said. We have no complaints about the food really - but the service is so bad, it really spoils the whole experience. So I would strongly advise getting take out so you don't have to deal with the service problem.
I used to come here every so often but then I noticed that every time I eat here I get diarrhea the next day! I asked some of my friends and they experienced the same thing. Now I refuse to eat here. I suspect it's the dirty ingredients or the dirty hands of the guys behind the counter.
If you're adventurous and don't care about having the runs, you can give them a try. Food is good value though quality and presentation are left wanting.
Nigiri rice is always sweet; tuna and salmon are always fresh. Good consistancy every time. Every visit, service is good; drinks always get topped up without asking. Best in Burnaby! It's worth driving up north than going to other sushi places on Kingsway. Waitress always smile. Take-out service need some work though.
We've been going here almost once a week for years and have watched this restaurant flourish. Unfortunately, they out-did themelves ....they can no longer handle the capacity of people who have found out about this hole-in-the-wall sushi joint that serves the 'Awesome Roll'.
When we first started coming here years ago, you got seated quickly and the service was prompt. As the months progressed, we noticed that it took longer and longer to get food to our table, so we started phoning in our order prior to going there. This worked for a while, but gradually, again, we started noticing that we would have to wait longer and longer before our food is ready.
So now, we call in atleast 2 hours before our usual dinner time (you get an additional 5% off your bill if you pay cash), but the last time we were there, we waited for more than 20 mins even though we gave them 2 hour notice!
In the end, the food and price still makes it worth the wait... if the owner of this restaurant reads these reviews... Perhaps you should buy out the restaurant next door that is ALWAYS sitting empty and expand! You obviously have the clientele!
Korean style sushi with Chinese style service - won't go back! Waited for food for 20 minutes, waitresses to busy to serve take-out to pay attention to the dining customers. Agedashi tofu arrived with almost no sauce to dip. The sushi and sashimi looked big and sloppy. This was is grub with no presentation that Japanese food deserves.
Good take out if you wanna have a lot of mediocre over-sized sushi for not a lot of money.
along with sushi garden, this is the only japanese restaurant that i go on consistent basis.
simply put, this restaurant will give you the best bang for your buck.
just go and order sasimi and see it for yourself.
they are so huge that it makes you wonder how they make money.
this place is also very busy, therefore high turnover, so food (especially sushi and sasimi) is always fresh and tasty.
i love the 'awesome' roll and 'red' roll.. beef roll is also very good.
service is solid but can be improved.
i think waitresses are understaffed and they need to hire more waitresses.. every time i go there i see them working their asses off.
Sushi Town has some of the best specialty sushi I've ever eaten. The regular stuff is okay, but the spicy tuna and other fancy rolls are very delicious. If you come here, be sure to order the fancy stuff.
The service isn't so good though. The last time I was there, they forgot one of my rolls. Also, they never came to refill my tea until I explicitly requested it. I felt sort of ignored.
Other than that, great food.
I had heard good things from a friend about this restaurant. The rolls made by one chef were horrible - it looked like a child had made them. The sushi made by a different chef was quite a bit better. The server didn't get me my remade roll in time so I asked her to take it off the bill. She did but she wouldn't have if I hadn't asked.
I have couple bad dine-In experiences in this restaurant. I always order their food to go since their services are not that good. Their portion are similar to Sushi Garden and the price are almost the same. I 'm really like their spicy tuna roll and spicy scallop roll. You will be happy if you care about the quantity.
I was impressive on my first visit to this restaurant. The price is reasonable, food quality is fairly good with the price they charged. However, when I went there the 2nd time, it was at 6:30pm in the evening ( thought it is early time). The waitress told me that they didn't have Salmon anymore, could we change it to Tuna. I couldn't believe a sushi restaurant has no salmon at 6pm. I told the girl "are you asking me to go another restaurant?". I found out the seats are crowded and little bit dirty.
My cousin brought me here for the first time a few months ago and I love it. The spicy tuna sashimi is the best I ever had and I prey myself on getting that dish ever sushi joint I go to. When I first walked into the restaurant I loved the decor it was very welcoming as were the cooks and all the servers. Everything is delicious here I enjoyed everything my cousin ordered. At times on other occasions they are to busy to really care for you when picking up take out and there isn't much waiting room when picking up but still a place that everyone should try.
so i went to sushi town again the other day and ordered the chirashi bowl. i dont know if it was because it was late at night or if the chef was just lazy but it was just not right. first of all the rice was a little too warm and wasn't seasoned properly. the warm rice in turn warmed up the sashimi on top. which was quite disturbing. but even with that, the tuna in the bowl was still frozen. i was really hungry and wanted to finish it but i just couldnt. warm sashimi and frozen tuna. not the best combination.
but that was just that one time, other times that i've gone there i got other stuff like the rolls and terriyaki and what not. those are good just dont get the chirashi, you might be sorry.
