Sunflower Cafe is a family run restaurant serving Chinese and Asian dishes along with a selection of bubble tea.
We have been going to Sunflower Cafe for over a year. The place is clean and modern, the ambiance is pleasant and suitable for conversation. But the reason we keep returning is for the authentic taste of Taiwanese style Chinese cuisine.
With the recent change in ownership, the restaurant now offers a couple of specials of the day. We ordered mushroom and meat sauce on rice, and crispy chicken chop with rice. Both dishes were very tasty and would have been good value at twice the price. The sour plum black tea and mango slush with pearls were made with real ingredients, and the difference is noticeable.
Eating here is like having a home-cooked meal.
I have regularly been going to Sunflower since I've moved to Burnaby over three years ago, and the food, service and ambiance have remained consistently favorable.
Ambiance:
Newly renovated, lively, rich colors that are pleasing to the eye and over all feel. Usual Asian-pop music played in the background adds to the authenticity of being in a BBT place in Taiwan. Small parking lot but I have always gotten lucky to find a spot.
Food:
Their Korean barbecue over rice dish is to die for, and of course the chicken nuggets. Savory flavors and not too overpowering. Their mixed drinks and bubble tea drinks are decently prepared. Just remember to ask for no or little sugar if you are sensitive to sweetness since they do put quite a lot.
Service:
Excellent service at most times. The owner/proprietor when around always greets us and chats with us whenever she is around. Otherwise, the student servers do their tasks efficiently considering the volume of drinks they have to prepare. I have experienced some long wait times though once or twice.
Value:
Great prices and huge servings. For roughly $5 or $6 you can have a delicious dinner and drink.
Pros: Service, food, value, friendly
Cons: Parking
I would recommend this place to anyone who needs a bubble tea fix without the over-rated feel of Estea and the likes.
