Stan's is a new restaurant as of January 2009. Dine in, take out. Lots of TV's and a bar.
It's small yet intimate with several big screen tvs.
Alcohol prices are very reasonable.
Stan is genial, attentive and friendly.
The food though is the star. To get this good a pizza - excellent crust, lots of fresh tasty fillings at this price (under $10 for a small - which is big enough for anyone) is the reason to come.
Certainly superior to and far less costly than the norm.
A short review here. I was at my buddy's auto shop in N Bby and we decided to order a couple large pies from this local joint. Mid week the the 2 pizzas took almost an hour to arrive. Boring, uninspired and generic is are terms that come to mind. We ate it but only because we were starved. There was nothing interesting or particularily tasty about the pizza that would make me recommend this place. Pizza like this fills the void but that's it. Period.
Ordered two medium pizzas and some wings for delivery. With the tip it came to $40, which is ridiculous for the crap quality of pizza. The cheese had this rubber texture and honestly tasted like it too. The crust was burnt and there were so little toppings. On my hawaiian pizza only half of it was covered in pineapples. Fully regretting deviating from my usually franchise pizza place to try this place.
Had a meal here recently and for me it was a case of extremes. This is not gourmet new age thin crust authentic from your momma's small town in Italy pizza. It traditional old school pizza and I thought it was good. However, the Pepperoni was more like Salami, and the other toppings were cut up so fine it was hard to tell what I was eating.
The service from apparently the woman owner was prettty lousy. My pop was empty when the pie was brought, but no refill was offered. Ate the whole pie still without a refill being offered. No checking to see how everything was. Had to ask for my bill. When my friend arrived as I was finishing to meet me they were not offered anything (they were not going to stay but it would have been nice to have offered). Seemed more content on sipping on her drink and watching TV than looking after anyone.
Thought the price for a small pie, about $7 or $7.50 was great, it filled me up.
The place was dark, furniture was rickety, bathroom not stocked. The scent of indifference hung in the air for me.
I'd order take out for sure, but would not eat in again.
We love Stan's. I was really surprised to read bad reviews on here. Granted, we only order pizza for take-out or delivery so that might make a difference. We love the pizza here. We've tried all the chain restaurants and other cheap pizza places but we always come back to Stan's as our favorite. The quality and quantity of the toppings is great. It tastes fresh, delicious and not too greasy. My favourite right now is the BBQ chicken pizza but we've tried many of their specialty and regular pizzas. We've also made big orders for parties and they do a great job of having the pizza ready on time.
As a negative I will say that as far as dine-in, it would not be my first choice. I find it small and dark. Also, there have been a couple of times when the delivery took was far too long but it's a really busy place because it serves great pizza. A couple of times in several years is understandable.
We'll stick with Stan's as our all-time favourite take-out pizza place.
My wife and I have eaten at Stan's many times and found their pizza to be pretty good. The topping amounts are better than most other places and the crust is good, but there has been the odd "off day" when the quality wasn't quite there. I have been to some of the best restaurants in Metro Vancouver and even they have their share of bad days, so I won't hold it against Stan's unless it happens regularly, and then it's "Good-bye Stan".
We've been looking for a reliable, order-out pizza joint since we moved into the central/northern part of Burnaby 10 years ago. Stan's recently filled the bill. The people taking the order on the phone are a pleasure to deal with. Delivery time is reasonable. Delivery guys have always been friendly. The pizza has always been hot and delicious...even the teenagers agree! Great value. There's nothing to complain about.
Haven't been to the restauarant itself.
I'm completely satisfied and happy to recommend their pizza.
I think Stans Pizza Joint has a very interesting set up. The staff is very friendly, its just a great atmosphere!
When I tried the pizza I found the crust to be very good! Alotta crust is pretty bland, but Stans dough has great flavour to it. I would definetly go back. Good prices, good food, good staff!
This place looks like a nice alternative to the typical 2 for 1 pizza places you find in Vancouver. Its not. Probably some of the worst pizza I have ever eaten. Bland sauce and rubbery cheese on top of cardboard. Anyone who thinks this tastes good needs to get their head examined.
Only had take out, so can't comment on the restraunt itself. You can get way better pizza in the neighborhood. Sure it is more expensive, but why pay for bad food?
After reading the very good reviews on this site, my husband and I decided to try out Stan's instead of our usual pizza place in North Burnaby. What a disappointment! First of all, how can anyone describe this place as "intimate"? For sure, it's smallish, but totally lacking in any kind of visual appeal or comfort. We amused ouselves watching the hockey game on one of the LCD screen TVs mounted on the wall (the only decoration) which was a good thing 'cause we waited quite awhile for that pizza to be delivered - and it was delivered to a bare table - no cutlery, napkins, S & P - nothing. We had to ask for cutlery, and that took awhile, as well. Before I even had a chance to bite into the pie I was already unhappy to see that the toppings (green pepper, onions and mushrooms) had been cut into little, bitty dice, and the resemblance to a frozen pizza unfortunately didn't end there. The crust was OK, but the onions (although cut small) were of the eye-watering variety as they had hardly even heated up, let alone cooked, and the cheese was that awful translucent gelatin kind that really is "cheese" in name only. Both of us decided that a frozen pizza would have been at least as good a choice as Stan's, but I have to say that it was inexpensive!!! So, if you're looking for cheap, but pretty lousy pizza served in an uncomfortable, rather ugly setting with slow and inattentive service, then Stan's is the place for you.
A couple of friends and I were at Stan's. It being a new restaurant and all, we decided to try it. Honestly it was great. Started off with appz and they were a steal for a party of four. The buck of wings were great, although the sauces could have been a bit more flavorful. The garlic bread itself took me by surprise. It looked like a pizza at first, but biting into it, there was a flavorful and juicy feeling. On top of that, the bread was soft and fresh from the oven. As for the drinks, a decent price with large glasses...maybe they could cut back on a bit of the ice but overall outstanding. Finally, the pizza, it wasn't greasy at all! A fair price for the pizza, it was loaded with lots of toppings, although the chicken was quite dry. The server was very humorous and quite understanding despite there were a few lags in between the service. The place itself is clean, with a modern feel, great for watching hockey. Overall worth going back for hockey nights and in general a good place to hang out for snacks.
This isn't a pizza joint, this is a pizza restaurant, and a good one at that IMHO. First time in there yesterday and I wasn't disappointed I had the medium with feta, artichoke hearts and spinach. The cheese does it for me when it comes to pizza. This is the real deal, not that oily stuff you get at the big chains. Good flavour, good crust (not thin, not deep dish, just right). It's on the north side of Hastings half a block east of Willingdon. If I have a criticism it's that the room is too dark from outside the place.
I could actually see myself watching a Canucks game, grabbing a few slices and curling back a couple at this place which I've not done before at a pizza restaurant. Mrs Leatherbelly just ordered. She & the kids piled in. Good stuff. Solid addition. Good luck to them.
I have been going to this place since they opened around a year ago. I have always loved the food and have tried almost everything on the menu.
The Pizzas are fantastic and the dough is made in house daily my favorite is the smokey pulled pork. THe Crust is not thick but not thin, its also a good mix between crunchy and fluffy(hope that doesnt sound vague). I really enjoy the hot wings too they aren't as greasy as they are in many other pizza places and they aren't under or over cooked ever. They also make a delicious greek salad with feta cheese, I highly recommend it!
The place itself is really cool its quite small with 2 different sections and big screen TVs on either side and they mostly play hockey games. At the end there is the bar with a Big Screen hanging over it for those who like to sit and have a beer while watching the game. (WHICH I DO) The staff and Stan himself are all very friendly and often quite humorous. The service is very prompt (sometimes a little slower during the dinner rush but still very well handled.) The take out menu has really great prices especially if you are ordering for pick up. It's only 5.75 for a small one topping pizza which I find perfect for a quick lunch.
I come to Stans quite often both to eat or just hang out and enjoy myself and I urge everyone to give it a try.
A very Pleasant experience, Great staff and Stan is very personable, I feel like I have known him for a lifetime. But the girls @ the bar where hot a definite plus, And the Pizza was Very Good, great crust a nice change, compared to most of the pizza places in the area. I recommend trying Stan's Joint I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I did I will definitely be returning for some great pizza and beer....
Tried to order a bucket of wings. Told they were out of wings. Friend tried to order a medium pizza. Told they were out of medium crusts (I guess their crusts aren't fresh).
Needed to use the washroom, toilet, toilet seat and tank were absolutely disgusting. Washed my hands very, very thouroughly after being in there.
We had to wait forever to get and pay our bill. Staff was indifferent.
The pizzas we did get tasted average, but were missing toppings that they were supposed to have.
Stan has done a great job reinventing his old Pizza Factory joint. My wife and I have eaten here twice since he opened, and have had delivery twice. We continue to be amazed at how he can offer such great quality pizza at the typical 2for1, 3for1, prices!
Tip: get his delivery menu. They have amazing bundles like 3 large pizzas and pop for around $30 bucks.
The restaurant itself is kinda cozy, with wonderful big screen high-def sports in your view from any seat.
