Small restaurant, mainly for take out, specializing in Indian sweets, but also selling some savoury items and curries.
I go to this place for the vegetarian nature of the place. I order their samosas often. They are pretty good. The curries were good, but i find that i am always getting something different when i order something. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's awful. The sweets are overpriced. Baba sweets up the street offers vegetarian dishes aswell, they are much better tasting everytime.
That's sad, i really want to see this place do well. I like to support vegetarian only restaurants.
I've passed Shagun Sweets in Burnaby many times so thought i'd finally give their Indian Sweets a try. I was very disappointed. I bought some higher priced sweets and some lower priced sweets but my order was weighed together and I was charged the higher price per pound for everything. After I paid for my purchase and was walking back to my car I counted the change and realized she rounded the total up to the shop's benefit and had not given me my full change. If they are going to round off the amount to avoid dealing with small change, they should round down to the customer's benefit. When i got home I tried the Indian Sweets and found that they are only so-so. They don't taste as fresh or as good and are way overpriced. The service also left a lot to be desired.
I've been here a few times and find that the quality of the food and service can be inconsistent.
I like to order the channa masala and I guess they don't follow set instructions for its preparation. Sometimes I order it and it's a fairly runny-type curry consistency and sometimes it's quite thick and dry and a lot spicier.
I do like to go here though, rather than Baba Sweets a few stores up, as Shagun Sweets is completely vegetarian with no meat on the premises.
I was suprised to find that they don't sell rice to go with their curries.
The service is sometimes friendly and sometimes not so friendly.
There are a few tables for people to eat-in if they want to, but I would only ever order take-out from here.
