Ramies is a Greek restaurant in Burnaby with reasonable prices.
I came here for dinner with my family the other nite for my dad's birthday, It's right across the street from my place and I think I came here for take-out a while back when it first opened. We ordered some appies to start, garlic prawns, calamari and they brought us pita. They were ok. For mains I had the roast lamb, it was very flavourful and was quite a good size portion, it came with potatoe, rice, veg, pita and greek salad. Others had bbq ribs, chicken and lamb chops, it was all very good. Our server was very nice and brought us more pita even though it was quite busy at the time. The decor was like that of most greek restaurants, maybe a bit more modern. Because we had a party of over 6, there was an automatic grat added to the bill, as I didn't pay the bill I don't know what it was, I think it might have been 15% but I'm not sure. Anyways, all and all it was a pretty good dining experience.
I like purchasing the entertainment book so that it forces me to try new restaurants out of my area. Normally this is a great experience and I get to enjoy a great meal.
Unfortunately Ramies is not one and I will not be returning anytime soon.
Normally I would order chicken souvlaki but decided to try something different. And I ordered the chicken with lasagna
The chicken was pretty good but the lasagna was disgusting and Ramies should be embarrassed to be serving it. It was a dish of baked pizza sauce and noodles with cheese on top. Had no flavor or seasoning and shouldn't even be called lasagna. It was so bad I couldn't eat it.... I have ordered lasagna from the local pizza place 1/4 cheaper and it was better.
With alot of positive reviews I was expecting something better but driving from surrey to Ramies was a complete waste of time..
Saturday Evening Experience
I ended up taking the gf here and we had a coupon for 50% the 2nd entrée. Upon entering, the place is clean, tidy w/well spaced tables for privacy. Most importantly, it was quiet inside.
The waitresses were attentive as we had our water refilled often. We had very fresh and delicious bread to start out with. Upon putting in our order for the beef and shish kabob souvlaki, I noticed a tad bit longer than usual to get our food - about 15 minutes. When it came, the food looked fresh.
However, the Tzatzhi sauce was not used to what I am getting at other restaurants. The texture was different and it had less taste. Perhaps it was healthier with this version? Also, the meat in both of our dishes was not as delicious and tender as other greek restaurants.
Overall I am not complaining as it was a fine meal.
Oh, washrooms were clean too. Not as one point did I cringe like how I do when I enter a Chinese restaurant.
Just went here yesterday with a bunch of friends. We ordered the Dee's platter which is everything I would've ordered at a Greek restaurant. It had Roast Lamb, Spanikopita, and Dolmathes served with Rice, Potato, Veggies, Greek Salad, and Pita Bread with Tzatziki.
The dolmathes were excellent, but the roast lamb was only OK. It had too much bones for my liking and not as tender as other places. The potatoes were over cooked a bit, at least parts of it was. The rice was good and buttery.. The service was good, but our table wasn't very clean as there was salt/sugar on our table.
It wasn't that busy, and the prices are pretty reasonable.
we used to be regulars at this place - visiting at least twice a month for almost 2 years. But somethings changed...for the worst. Over the past 4 or so months, the quality of food has gotten progressively worst.
They've lost their friendly servers ...and have had problems finding good help. The roast lamb, which used to be their signature dish now tastes like boiled dish cloth with salt. The humous is still sort of edible, so it's ok. Their pita bread that is served at dinner is still quite tasty - must be the butter. Most of the appetizer dishes are either burned or dripping with grease.
So sad to see how most of the food and service has slid down ... we're now looking for a new Greek place to hang out.
Came here recently with the in-laws, who have been regulars for years. Nice, clean restaurant with friendly staff. It was my first time dining here. I ordered the keftedes, which I have never had before then and I must say were excellent! The tzaziki was heavenly, soooo garlicky! The pita bread was good and the side dishes were of typical greek fare and were good too. The other members of my dining party had chicken and lamb souvlaki and dolmades. All which, by the lack of conversation, were enjoyed very much! The prices were very typical. The service was attentive and quick. I would definetly come back for more keftedes :)
For convenience, this place is hard to beat as it's right on Kingsway. Plentiful parking right behind the restaurant.
Ramie is lovely and always comes to make sure we are ok, as we are now regulars here. We have seen quite the turnover with the staff and there have been some lovely servers and some headscratchers!!!
But the food again is tasty, hot, fresh and makes me want to go back. There is not much to choose from on the dessert menu. They do have a limited selection of wines as well.
For the price of the food and it's quality so far, I'll be back.
Although I probably undid the workout I just completed and I would have eaten anything at that point, the food seemed really good to me. I did not finish the whole meal (as planned) but everything tasted really good. I only had to add some salt to the meal but I love my salt.
Since opening we have enjoyed our experiences dining here, plus have had excellent food even on a phone take out.
The lamb souvlakia is always consistent and my favourite.Mrs.B always tries different menu items, and is never let down. This is a cozy little place, usually with good parking right out front.
We switched from Vasillis to this one, because the ambience is nicer, and you can hear table guests talk without the assault of loud music. It is also less expensive, and the staff are friendly.
My family have become regulars at this restaurant over the years both for eat in and for take out.
Food is of good quality and in generous size portions and the quality is consistent. Staff are friendly.
Favourite dishes of ours are the salmon souvlakia or the salmon steak, the seafood combo on a skewer, the lamb dinner or souvlakia, and the chicken dishes. All dishes come with greek salad, pita, tzatziki, rice, roast potatoes, and vegetables.
Dinner dishes mentioned above are mostly $13.95.
Same size dish at lunchtime, before 3 p.m., is $9.95 or less.
They are very compliant and don't charge extra for most substitutions.
Only complaint with the salmon is that there are often bones to pick out.
Give Ramie's a try and they will likely become a favourite restaurant of yours too.
They are not in the entertainment book any longer, but check the Burnaby local papers and mailers for extra savings coupons.
