The Pita Pit serves up healthy, fresh pita pockets filled with veggies, hot-off-the-grill meats and tasty sauce and cheeses.
I went to the Pita Pit in Burnaby (new location) last Saturday night with my boyfriend and now I'm hooked!! I'd say way better than Subway or Quizno's. They serve their meat fillings hot off the grill and you have a whole wack of toppings and sauces to choose from. I had just a regular chicken souvlaki pita with tzatziki sauce. Eventhough I did not go daring with my selection, I thought it was a good meal for $7. Enough to satisfy my hunger. My boyfriend went weirdo and order his own creation of the club (bacon, turkey, and ham) with lettuce, pickles, LOTS of olives and pineapples and ranch sauce. Turned out pretty good, he says and will order it next time too.
A nice healthy alternative to the junky fast food burger joints.
This Pita Pit was a horror today. Usually awesome girl is there and she can handle being on her own. But really what kind of owner or management would have one person working in a fast food restaurant at a busy Burnaby location on a weekday? Not a very smart one.
I was hoping for a better experience but I should have followed my gut and bolted when I walked in. There were exactly 4 people ahead of me and I did not walk out of this joint with my pita until 25 minutes after I walked in. This one poor woman was doing her best but she could be expected to do it all. She was supposed to take the orders and the money, prep and refill the toppings, cook the food on the grill, make the pitas to order and answer the phone and take phone orders at the same time. She was out of many of the toppings I wanted as she did not have time to refill. And, my pita was half the size that awesome girl makes. Sure hope she hasn't quit.
Anyway, I would seriously reconsidered this place as I really don't want to waste my entire lunch hour waiting. THis is not a one time thing, There is very often only one person working here. What terrible management.
Further to my earlier review this year, I guess those yahoos got fired. Now there is an AWESOME girl working there who is pleasant, fast and sanitary! She appears to be the ONLY person wokring in this place duing the week, There never seems to be any help, but she manages brilliantly! The owner should give her a HUGE raise. Plus she makes the BEST pitas of any pita pit location. Your rock pita pit girl!
I cannot comment on the food or the value as I was never served.
I can only comment on the service, or more accurately the lack of customer service.
I arrived at the location and walked in for the first time ever.
I was noticed, but not acknowledged.
I had no idea where to stand or wait or what the procedure was as there was no signage and the staff member did not say anything to me.
I was the only person waiting to be served.
I finally figured that the procedure must be like Subway or Quiznos, where you order your food and then pay for it, so I stood where she was making the food for the two other people in the store.
Meanwhile, after about 5 minutes, 1 more person walked in, and then 2 more a couple minutes after that.
The staff member finally was finishing up making the pitas for the 2 people. She told me to go over to the cash to pay first as she rudely walked over to serve the other three people who walked in after me.
Unbelievably bad service!
I left, infuriated.
What a waste of time.
The Burnaby Pita Pit is located in a mixed business / residential area. It was my first time trying Pita Pit about two weeks ago, and I must say it it exceeded my expectations. What I liked was that the meat was prepared to order - I had a chicken club that included swiss cheese, chicken, ham and bacon. After that, you get you choose your toppings. Everything from red onion, olives, peppers, hot peppers, pineapple, sprouts, tomatoes, lettuce and pickles. There is also an array of sauces.
One thing to note is to stay off your cell phone while ordering!! :) I asked the friendly staff about the sign they had along the assembly line and she smiled, saying yes, it was a pet peeve.
The sandwich was really good and big - I ended up taking half of it home, and enjoyed it as a lunch another day.
I will definitely make this part of my weekday lunch rotation. I work in the area and it is a fast, healthy and cheap alternative to the food court or the White Sport that is in the area.
